Thiruvananthapuram Smart City Advances by Including Intelligent Tools for Effective Urban Mobility

May 2023: ThiruvananthapuramSmartCityhasmadesignificantadvancementsin trafficmanagementwiththecreationoftheTSCCC(TrafficandSafetyCommandand ControlCentre).Foreffectiveurbanmobilityandroadusersafety,ithasintegrateda varietyofreal-time,intelligentsystemsaswellascomponents,includingATCS (AdaptiveTrafficControlSystem),ITMS(IntegratedTrafficManagementSystem), ANPR(AutoNumberPlateRecognition)system,aswellasRLVD(Red-Light ViolationDetection)system.

Theseintegratedsystemsaidinadvancinginformationsharing,trafficcontrol, trafficmanagement,andtrafficlawenforcementinthecity.Theyprovideuseful informationtodriverswhileassistingthetrafficpoliceinmaintainingsmoothtraffic flow.

May 2023: TheAgraSmartCity,controlledbyacentralizedcommandandcontrol system,employsartificialintelligencetotrackthedisposalofsolidwaste,detect strayanimals,andclearcloggedmanholes.

AcowexploringthestreetsofAgra,UttarPradeshiscapturedonCCTV.Analertis senttoanearbyanimalambulance,whichpicksitupandtransfersittoagaushala (cowrefuge),aftertheartificialintelligence(AI)systemrecognizesthatitisacow rightaway.

Thesystemutilisedbythe2,250-acreAgraSmartCitycanidentifypotholes,traffic violations,andevensexualharassment.Eightmonthsago,anIntegratedCommand &ControlCentre(ICCC)wassetuptokeepaneyeonthisregionaround-the-clock. Numerousimagesfocusonthecentralcontrolcentre,whichismannedby24people withuniquequalifications.

March 2023: AccordingtoarecentcircularfromtheCommissioner,HDMCwillonly takeoverthefinishedSmartCityProjectonceateamofexpertshascompiled comprehensivefindingsonqualityandotherissues.Recently,PrimeMinister NarendraModidedicatedmorethan15oftheseprojects.Thecircularalsosaidthat afour-personexpertcommitteewouldbeformed.Despitebeingremindedthatthe teamhadn'tyetmet,ittoldtheteamofexpertstosubmitthereport.

AcoordinatorhasbeenchosenbyHDMCtothespecialcommitteeithasestablished inordertocommunicatewithHDCauthorities&thespecialexpertteam.In Hubballi,HDSCLhasstarted62projects,finished53ofthem,andiscurrently buildingninemore.

Finance for India's Smart City Mission

ThegovernmenthascontributedatotalofRs.7,20,000crores.Throughoutthe courseoffiveyears,onaverageRs100croreeachcity.Theprogrammewouldbe runasaCentrallySponsoredScheme(CSS)ona50:50basis,whichmeansthatthe centralwillinvestRs.50croreandthestategovernmentorunionterritorieswill contributeRs.ThefactthattheCentregovernmentallocatedRs27,282croreuntil November2021,whilststatesonlyreleasedRs20,124crore,hasalsoturnedinto oneofthehurdlesforIndia'ssmartcityproject.
