According to a report by CBRE South Asia Pvt Ltd, Karnataka is set to become a premium DC destination in India & lead as one of the best digital economies in the country, thanks to its latest dedicated Data Center (DC) policy. According to the report, titled 'Karnataka to be the Data Center Destination of Choice,' DCs in Karnataka are expected to grow exponentially as a result of a proactive policy push and the state's enabling existing digital infrastructure. According to industry estimates, the growing possibilities of big data, industry 4.0, 5G, & cloud computing will drive DC demand in the state, along with the expanding Indian OTT streaming market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 22 percent -25 percent, and the entertainment and media industry, which is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 10 percent -12 percent by 2030.
Several factors, which include technology hub, power surplus, strategic location, skilled talent, industrial growth, favourable policies, & low environmental risk, support Karnataka as a premium DC destination, according to the CBRE report. Other government incentives available throughout Karnataka, such as power tariff concessions, land subsidies, investment incentives, and stamp duty exemption, are likely to attract DCs to the state.
Bangalore will spearhead Karnataka's DC growth. DC capacity requirements would emerge as a result of cloud providers' rapid growth in the coming years, creating demand for hyper-scale DCs in Bangalore. Considering Bangalore's ranking as the second-most preferred technology destination in APAC, as well as the knowledge capital & IT hub, which accounted for nearly 40% of India's total software export in 2020-21, India's Silicon Valley will be the primary beneficiary of Karnataka's DC policy. According to the most recent CBRE Q2 research, Bangalore has 100 MW of DC capacities, the second-largest in India. Furthermore, Bangalore has been named one of the top 30 start-up ecosystems in the world. A dedicated DC policy will encourage additional long-term institutional investment and boost demand for DC, particularly in Bangalore. Bangalore will lead in attracting operator and investor interest in the DC space as a technology, R&D, and shared services platform pioneer. Bangalore, India's established IT hub and industrial stronghold, is also the country's largest office market, accounting for roughly 30% of total leasing in the last five years.
