Abstract
The project’s intention is to explore properties of texture of knitting and Moiré patterns and their relationship with human behavior, in order to find out a new form for M.U.M.A.courtyard in Monash University to integrate with new programs (as extension exhibition space of Monash University Musuem of Art) and respond to diversity of spatial perception in the spatial process when people travel through the place. A textile-like system could serve as a network of human behaviours in landscape. Its qualities reflect different human movement, such as repetition of stitch reflecting circulation of transfering, variation of connection between tightness and looseness reflect spatial qualities of different activities of communities from a centralized crowd to a normal group, to tranfer. Field condition is made by these behaviours and qualities. These qualities also relate to a series of homologue of formal or informal spatial/physcial patterns, which reflect on open or semi-open spatial morphologies in the courtyard. Moiré patterns are suitible containers of these texture qualites. Different kind of line weight can indicate different meanings - a thin line can be paving, whereas a thicker line can be the outline wall of a building. The moiré patterns were used as a principle to allocate different objects and the density of lines signifies spaces. Infrastructures are arranged according the textile of moire pattern and become different spatial patterns to create relevant perception as formal and informal morphologies. As a result, different field condition is applied, such as a tree matrix on the play ground showing a feel of concentration to gather actors and audiences; semi-open gallery space divided by wire walls with short intervals providing a sense of both absorption and fluidity; as well as the positive-negative terrain design conveying a loose spatial perception for people to feel free to read and have leisure activities. Thus, coming up from different field conditions, the programs of objects are allocated and confirmed. As people transfer through the courtyard, they experience a variation of fields in spatial perception integrated with relevant programs.

Abstract
There are two themes in the project, the first one is to create a dynamic model and explore its behaviours; the second stage is to translate these behaviours into a landscape system in order to generate specialty in an actual design in urban space of Beijing. 1.Compress and Release Dynamic Model: The model is a connection system with 2 types of movable centers, each inner center nested in the outer one as a unit and all the units connected in a transposition format by an even number of links, each two going through one unit. As the links being compressed or released by particular movement of the centers, they could present a response in intensity and flexibility according to the different moving speed and interaction of the centers (inner faster than the outer). The Reflection from the Model: 1.Outer Centers and Inner Centers show different quality in Spatial Relationship(location) --- farness and slowness versus nearness and fastness; 2.The variation of tightness and looseness of the threads in the system within the behavior of Compress and Release reflects a spatial compensation relation between intensity of connection and flexibility of interaction. 2.Superimposition What? Superimposition is a trans-program road system design to minimize the spatial division by the ring-roads and over-size single use estate to reconnect the detached city programs and reuse the space of these precincts to adjust the contradiction between traffic and social interaction in Beijing and enhance the efficiency of them. Why? As the ring-road system continue to increase, many roads and lanes are enclosed by the big gates and walls of a series of single use estates. These boundaries confine the circulation of traffic and pedestrian and the connectivity between programs. Hence, a trans-program road system responding to traffic commuting and social interaction could be a solution of the deadlock. How? In the designed system, Superimposition means capacity of traffic and function could be changed in different time to improve penetration of traffic or either social interaction in the same system. It connects the local programs by a set of monorail network and local roads redevelopment. Each of the tracks in the monorail network connecting a majority of single programs provides a direct way to these estates and the intersections of the network could become channels to make chances for social interaction from different programs. The Lane redevelopment within these intersections has a series of service points linked by bicycle tracks engaged with road surface design. The Surface design could both provide diverse programs for traffic and social interaction by integration of spatial facilities arrangement, environmental graphic design and pavement, according to different time. Thus the whole system presents a behavior of compress and release on spatial usage between traffic and social interaction from a local dimension to a large scale in a time circulation. Compress and release mean intensity of traffic and flexibility of interaction on the connection medium between urban programs, which could be reflected on the dynamic model by the tightness and looseness of the threads connecting outer Streams in Beijing (2000 ~ 2010) centers or the inner one in different scale.

Abstract
How can I use patterns as mechanism to generate a complex landscape system for sustainability of human interaction in urban redevelopment? The research is concerned about relationship between patterning, human interaction and urban redevelopment in old residential area. Intension is to research a landscape system based on mechanism of different natural patterns to conduct landscape design in these city spaces for integration with human interaction (neighborhood) and urban redevelopment. In project A, I explore for a strategy to integrate human interaction with social economic redevelopment, between which clash is made in Urbanism, especially in China. Chinese city towns are undertaking economic redevelopment by governments and the lost of neighborhood is a result after the projects. My project is one of these redevelopments in Guangzhou, China. My intention is to research a landscape system for circulation space in new design instead of government plan, which can maintain quality of human interaction and fulfill the demands of social and economic redevelopment. In this system, patterns are mechanisms to conduct generation of spatial morphology and programmatic arrangement in order to affect human interaction (of human behavior) according to social psychology (social theatre). In the design, I analyzed the site integrated with different mechanisms of patterns to generate spatial configurations, which, as a result, produced different types of social theatres to affect human interaction. But the exploration of spatial design is not enough and not all the mechanisms of patterns were clear, therefore, some spatial properties were not considered, as a result, how social theatre works in these mechanisms of spatial design was unclear. Secondly, interaction and integration between different patterns to create a larger and more complex system are not clear enough. That is to say there are still potentials to explore the systems in order to make the mechanism of these patterns more reusable on human interaction in any urban redevelopment. Based on previous spatial design in project A , intention of project B is to improve understand of patterns as design prototype to refine detail design on the spatial qualities such as Pavement, Programs and Infrastructures, Terrain Design, road system and look at how different patterns exert in these properties and how these patterns interact to create an active complex system in spatial窶田hronological process, in order insert social theatres for human interaction in urban landscape and eliminate stereotype in government plan such as physical separation( fence and inaccessible huge green field), rigid program distribution and integrating with social economic redevelopment. Finally, through design with patterning and based on the theatre of social theatre, this research aims at transferring the logic of patterns into generation invisible theatres for producing of a series of invisible fence by human behavior/interaction in order to replace the physical separation and redistribute the rigid program arrangement in government plan.
