Producing & Purchasing Verdant Market will produce fruit and vegetable by hydroponic system and natural sunlight. In this whole system, there will be three producing areas to make sure this neighborhood could be self-sufficient. People will come in to purchase what they need. The form of market is quite flexible and cater for different seasons and different products.

Green Facade & Street Fair

The relationship between street fair and main market is like what blood vessels to artery. In human body, artery couldn’t reach the whole body, thus blood vessels could transport the nutrient to all parts. Street fair could transport vegetables and fruit to the whole city, especially those part don’t have easy access. And green façade could also make use of those leftover space to grow.

Market

Streets Market is an important place that linked with the whole city’s currency cycle. It is the exact place where people spend their money and get their everyday necessities. Citizens get paid from the office and then go to the market to obtain materials for dinner. The profit will go the factories to fabricate more hydroponic system, lighting operation and maintenance. Some of the raw materials will go direct to the deli to produce prepared food. Streets and parks will provide the place for weekly fair. The whole currency cycle could happen within this city, making it always a nearly static place. Money spend on market will return to citizens in the form of convenience and healthy life.

The activities of residents in this old town area are quite diverse and interesting. The study of daily activity in this area could help the design of this community center by applying those basic elements in the design.

The reception and library are two main parts in this community center. They are on different levels of the floor. Making use of the slope altitude, different entrance could perform different functions.

Observing from the outside, the zig-zag shaped slope could function both the roof for the interior and walk path for exterior. Make connection to different people that live under the slope and up the slope. The community center could also become a tourist destination for its unique appearance.

Curatorial Plan

The logic of curatorial is to add culture influence and interference in the design. The whole museum is about European Decorative of Art and how it got influenced by other kinds of art in different time periods. The plan indicates that different layers of art exert their culture influence on the inner layer of European Decorative of Art. 47 I

Exhibitions in Section In the section, the relationship between exhibition and space could clearly be illustrated. The centered elevator not only could be performed as linkage through different levels but could also function as a quick guide to varies zone in the museum.

European Timeline in Wrap

The timeline is wrapped into a circle and has marked different culture influence. It origins from the ancient Greek and Roman influence on Italy and to the nineteenth century Arts and Crafts Movement, then to the latest exhibition in twenty-first century. The shape of circle indicate that history timeline is an infinite object, it doesn’t have an end.

MUSEUM DESIGN

I 52

Section Perspective

The use of concentric circles could indicate the culture influence and interference. Those different layers of wall can display how European decorative of art absorb and take in other cultures themes. The play of wall represent how history could show in the form of architecture and how they influence each other. It emphasis that history is not separate or defined by regions, actually they have relationships. In the center, there are ramps and transparent elevator that can form some vertical connections and lead the visitors to glance over the whole exhibition.

ANATOMY OF ARCHITECTURE Tech Course at GSAPP Instructor: Jay Hibbs

STRUCTURE SYSTEM HVAC SYSTEM ENVELOPE

Site & Location Kroon Hall is located in New Haven, Connecticut at Yale University and it covers a site area of approximately 130,433 square feet. A 1913 brownstone building was located on site,it was the long-defunct gas-fired PiersonSage Power Plant. The School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (FES) goals not only wanted to transform the site into their new low-carbon home, to create a model to inspire sustainability practices, all the while fitting in with its NeoGothic neighbors. And not only be sustainable, but to demonstrate through its design how a building design of a 100-year lifespan can operate on nearly 60% fewer resources than other buildings around campus. Building connectivity and integration with existing facilities was an important consideration. Its siting not only provides a thoughtful orientation that helped to optimize the passive sustainable measures part of the project but also provide the opportunity to create courtyards in between the new buildings and the existing ones. Kroon Hall includes offices for faculty, classrooms, a library and study center, an auditorium and a student lounge; it occupays a building area of approximately 68,800 square feet in a 4-level structure. The architectural team arranged the structure’s 218-foot length to harvest winter sun and daylight, while the wood louvers and the narrow 57-foot width cut summer heat again.
