Planning the Life of Plastic
Statement The traditional recycling center has terrible air quality and an unpleasant working environment which is not visited by the public. No one wants to get close to this kind of area, and this is the reason why the public barely knows the whole process of recycling and the difference between different types of plastic. Through this project, I want to explore what kind of role architecture has in educating people and influencing people’s recycling habits. In addition, I hope to raise people’s awareness about protecting our environment.

Green Community
Statement More people are paying attention to environmental protection, and since the building’s program is an Environmental Think Tank, I want to create a space that draws the public to the building with the goal of making people see the building as an important part of the community, thereby raising awareness of the environmental research being done inside the building. The one-story steel frame building spans the site, with the most public space having double height, and the more private spaces having single height. The public green roof serves as a park for the surrounding community and is open to visitors even when the Think Tank itself is closed.

South Beach Apartment and Retail Statement The concept of this project uses the square courtyard of the building as a public space. I use glazing material as the primary material for the commercial space, so the area on the first floor will feel more attractive and encourage people to visit here. In addition, using the wood material on the second floor will make the residence feel inviting and comfortable, and the residential space is on the second floor so that it will be quieter.

Y House at Northgate Ct
Statement This project is located at 10 Northgate Court, Daly City. I designed three floors of the residential house with a steel structure. The drawing of the wall section and its related elevations, plans, and ket details provide a fairly complete description of the buildings. Using existing drawings as models, I developed my own wall section drawings with detail drawings of handrails, parapets, and windows in my design. Based on the detail drawings, I know how to draw the wall section drawings such as handrails, parapet, and windows. I learned how different materials come together and work together and about the technical aspects of architectural design through exploring wall section drawings.

Exploring Three Cubes
Statement My concept is the ceremony hall as a connection, which interlocks the world of life and the world of death. So I designed three cubes which are interlocked. After I made three cubes and opening in those three cubes, I found there is useful and interesting space in this concept model. The area interlocked by three cubes goes all the way through to the sky. The different floors in my project allow people to see what is happening in the main ceremony hall. Also, the vertical space of the ceremony hall is a central space that connects to connect and grab different areas at different levels both physically and visually.

Institute of the Moving Image at Spencer Battery Statement This site is located on the Battery Spencer in Sausalito and has beautiful views of the Golden Gate bridge and the whole Bay Area. At the beginning of this process of design, I watched the movie “Birds. I took some ideas from some scenes, and I developed these ideas from my concept models. I connected the site with my project. Also, I designed the structures to frame the views. When people move to the different area, they can see the views that I want to people to see it.

Growing up in City
Statement The site is located at 110 Franklin St, San Francisco, and it is a very narrow site. The program is a dance center, and the program space is three times larger than the site. So how the program space fits into the site is very critical. My idea for this project is to design the public space on the lower floors and classrooms on upper levels. The building is in the shape an inverted rhomboid. My project provides a large space on the ground floor for the plaza, and it can invite people to visit the plaza and linger in the public area. the classrooms on the upper floors have a quiet area for dancers.

JOURNEY OF LEARNING
Acknowledgments
Family My dear Mom and Dad, thanks for being my biggest fans and supportive for me at all times. You should know that your support and encouragement was worth more than I can express on paper.
My Instructors I would like to thank all of my studio's instructors. I have learned so much from you. Without your helpfulness, the school would be more challenging. Thank you professor Mark Muekenheim, Maria Paz De Moura Castro, Eric Reeder. Alberto Bertoli, Benjamin Corotis, David Gill for being a remarkable teacher, and I am very grateful to have you as a teacher.
Friends Jing Zhang, Jinyuan Shi, Allen, and Max thanks for being so helpful and supportive during my M. arch journey.
Mary Scott I sincerely thank Ms. Scott for her guidance and encouragement in the development of my M. Arch portfolio.
