GOTHAM GOTHAM GOTHAM GOTHAM
Seen in a variety of media in the States, Gotham became an widely used typeface since 2000. Inspired by the 20th signage in NYC ,the DISTINCTIVE GEO M E T R I C sans-serif letters were invented by Tobias Frere Jones of the type foundry, Hoefler&FrereJones. This typeface shows up in several notable places, e.g. Obama’s election campaign, Saturday Night Live, and Freedom Tower at the One World Trade Center site. However, the letters would not have been seen these days if there was no commission from GQ, a popular men-fashion magazine, to design a t ypeface w ith“masculine, new and fresh”look. GQ owned an exclusive right until 2002 when Gotham was released to public.
