Isle Of Skye
For this book, I would like to express my gratitude to all the people who are in my life and support me. Firstly, it has been an honor for me to have had my very close friend, Fotis Kakalidis, alongside me throughout this unique and magical journey. A person with whom I have always shared the same passion of discovering the truth in every way. Moreover, I would like to thank my younger brother, Konstantinos Lefakis, a talented photographer, for his reliable editing, as well Penelope Zaoudi for her support in this project. Penultimately, I owe my partner in life, Zefi Leontides, my gratitude for being by my side, assisting and inspiring me in every step of this venture. Last, but not least I wish to thank my parents for always believing in me, teaching me to value myself and the people around me, thus becoming the person I am today.
These words are written far up a fierce river in the isle of Skye, surrounded
by ferocious cliffs that support and extoll the magnificence of the landscape. While sitting in a vast green valley in the mystical land nearby Portree town, I contemplate the allurement of mother earth while a coppery golden sun shines through a mist laden sky. A remote place situated in the eastern part of the island where the tranquility is disconcerted by nature’s invisible tunes aiding to one’s inner search of himself. A connection between spirituality and scenery which is hard for those of us living in a technological society to grasp. This book makes no claim to offer an ethnographic analysis of nature and environment. What it attempts, instead, is to capture and imprint the sense, the authenticity and the premium character of the place, in the exact way that its whisky does. A very well-balanced smoked whisky, named Talisker, that has been produced for years now with the same sea water that splashes onto the shores of the rugged island. Talisker was definitely a springboard to this memorable trip.
