01 the Beach Bar Tsingtao Beer bar design Qingdao, China Academic | Individual Spring 2020 When mentioning Qingdao, people always think of the world-famous Tsingtao Beer and sailing sport, because the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games sailing competition was held in Qingdao, and a series of Olympic-themed cultural buildings were established in the Olympic Sailing Center. Looking back at the coastline of this area, most of them are public buildings such as museums, conference center, theaters, and lack a space for people to relax and entertain.

CONCEPT Combining Tsingtao Beer and sailing culture, I plan to build a beer bar behind the mountain, and the surface material is canvas ,which is commonly used for sailing in response to the sailing culture. The beer bar serves tourists who have walked through cultural buildings and people in the residential area on the other side.

The concave edge of the arc will be subjected to centripetal force. The enclosed boundary creates a highly accommodating space environment, and people who live in it will feel enclosed.
The long coastline provides people with a wide range of visibility. From a psychological perspective, an environment with a wide field of vision is the best place to relieve stress.
The outside the arc edge line, it will be subjected to centrifugal force. This expanded space form has a wider field of vision and is more suitable for relatively open crowds.

The floor of the outdoor bar is re-paved with wooden floors to distinguish it from the surroundings. There is a square at the corner of the site to arrange the landscape and do sinking treatment, which has a guiding role and allows people to move forward to the coast.

02 Hills Hiding Landscape visitor center design Kurgi Farm, Latvia Academic | Individual Summer 2020 The site is situated within the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve. Kurgi Farm itself is fairly remote, located on the Latvian-Estonian border, but can be accessed from several towns and cities by car. There are a number of diverse natural and semi-natural habitats throughout the reserve as it encompasses vast areas of primeval and traditional landscapes. There are 25 nature reserves, one nature park, and two marine protected areas within the reserve. Tartu, home of the prestigious University of Tartu, is roughly a one-hour drive from Kurgi Farm, meaning there is plenty of potential to receive visitors, tourists, and students as guests at the ecotourism farm.
BACKGROUND
CONCEPT
Established in 1997, the North Vidzeme Biosphere is the only one of its kind in Latvia, stretching across 53km of coastline along the Gulf of Riga and bordering the northern frontier with Estonia. The biosphere covers 457,600 hectares of land and 16,750 hectares of sea and was recognized as part of the UNESCO program within a year of being established as a protected territory of international importance.
Inspired by local horse breeding and horse breed protection, the form of the visitor center is reshaped from the shape of horseshoes. At the same time, combined with the trend of the mountains, the building is hidden in the site, and visitors can climb on the roof to get a broader view and enjoy the scenery of the North Vidzeme Biosphere.
The majority of the landscape is filled with lakes, as well as glacially formed hills and rolling plains. The region also includes one of the biggest areas of raised bogs in the Baltic states, as well as the largest area of littoral or randu meadows in Latvia. Within the reserve there are several protected nature areas, including dendrological plantations, geological and geomorphic nature, as well as historical landmarks.

SITE
This is a mountainous area, high in the north and low in the south, the overall height difference is about 20m.
Combining the local horse pastoral culture, with the "horseshoe" as the basic prototype, echoing the surrounding roads and buildings.
Push and pull the "horseshoe" to see the granary to the north and the farm to the south.
Adjust the shape according to the terrain, high in the south and low in the north, hiding the building in the site.
Set the way the crowd leads to the building, the main entrance and the entrance plaza, for visitors to enter the building, or to the farm.
The eaves are raised outward to form a climbable roof, and people can walk directly on the roof through the path.
Kurgi Farm is owned by a young couple, Kristaps and Laura, who were mesmerised by the natural beauty of the area. So much so that they decided to live there permanently. Kurgi farm’s primary focus is horse breeding, but not just any horses. Kurgi farm is one of the only breeding programmes in place for the Latvian Ardennes, a rare breed of local horse that is dangerously close to extinction, and Kurgi has one of the last four Latvian Ardennes studs in existence. The Latvian Ardennes is a breed of horse that the local community value highly as part of their historical heritage, and have been working hard to save from extinction.

03 Community’s Renovation Urban-village renovation Qingdao, China Academic | Individual Autumn 2020 Xiaoweng Village can be regarded as a natural village with a relatively long history in Qingdao, and its history can be traced back to more than 100 years ago. Xiao Weng Tou was originally called "Xiao Weng Yao Tou". This is because there was a kiln-making workshop in the village's Dongchang Yard. Nowadays, the houses in Xiaoweng Village are dilapidated and the whole village is also under the government's old house renovation. The future Xiaoweng Village needs some infrastructure to meet the daily needs of the villagers. Xiaoweng Village is surrounded by the city's traffic and is a typical urban-village. The buildings in the village are mostly red-tiled double-pitched roofs. So the project proceeded from this perspective, under the condition of preserving the form of the village to carry out renovation and transformation.

SITE ANALYSIS satellite imagery site
At present, the relevant government departments are studying and formulating the renovation plan, and have conducted investigations on the redevelopment intention of the residents in the relevant urban villages. The next step is to start the renovation before the end of this year after the renovation plan is determined. As a local villager, our community lacks a public, open space. The elderly can only sunbathe at the door, and children can only play in the courtyard. It is necessary to provide a space for people of all ages to socialize during the renovation. It’s also very troublesome to pay utility bills now, it’s better to have an community service hall.
I sit in front of the computer and work every day. After get off work, I can not find a suitable leisure space in the community. I rarely have the opportunity to socialize with others. It is best to have a place for us office workers to relax and entertain during the renovation.
We like to listen to Liuqiang very much. This is a local traditional drama in Qingdao. Many villagers also like to listen to it. However, there is no venue for performing dramas. I hope that a small theatre can be built to pass on this niche culture.

MATERIALS
EXPLODED AXONOMETRIC pavilions The pavilions on the square are mainly composed of steel structure and canvas. The steel frame ensures that the installation is sturdy and durable. The canvas has a certain degree of transparency. The random distribution enriches the richness of the enclosed space.
facade The facade is mainly made of patterned marble stone, and the random patterns make the facade no longer monotonous. Floor-to-ceiling windows and aluminum window frames harmonize.
roof The roofs of the community center and theater are made of the same material as Xiaoweng Village's houses-red tile roofs, which are integrated with the surrounding environment, which is also an architectural feature of Qingdao.

04 White Pagoda’s Memory Watchtower design Beijing, China Academic | Individual Winter 2020 The Miaoying Temple, located in Xicheng District, Beijing, was built in the Yuan Dynasty. The White Pagoda in the temple is the oldest and largest lama pagoda in China. Nowadays, Siheyuan surrounds Miaoying Temple, and the area of Siheyuan has already been lined with tall buildings. Obviously, the Siheyuan will be demolished in the future with the needs of social development, but the form and culture of the Siheyuan cannot disappear. As the landmark building of the Siheyuan, the White pagoda has a decisive influence on the Siheyuan. I hope to build a watchtower that draws on the architectural style of the Siheyuan, and echoes the White Pagoda, forming an antagonistic relationship between the new and the old, the past and the future. Becoming the carrier of the Siheyuan culture, and storing the memory of the White Pagoda.

There are 13 circles of the phase wheel (the phase wheel means the level of the pagoda) 2 Tashen - the body of the White Pagoda, also known as the "tower belly", like a typical covered bowl. 3 Tazuo - the base of the pagoda, there were many statues of protector gods originally carved, and the corner pillars were carved with diamonds. It's a pity that all have peeled off. 4 Taji - the foundation of the pagoda. There is a passage on the tower base for people to walk along and worship Buddha.

The main entrance of the courtyard is generally set on the east side of the sunny side. After entering, you can enter the central courtyard through the corridor, and then you can enter any room in the four directions. The overall circulation is smooth and regular.

circulation
Just like the Siheyua in Chinese, it is a courtyard enclosed by houses in four directions. The layout emphasizes the concept of enclosure. The surrounding houses can directly enter the courtyard.
enclosing The houses in the four directions are independent of each other, generally speaking, they have residential functions. The houses are connected by corridors to form a closed circulation.
The houses in four directions are private spaces, the corridor is a semi-open space, vand the central courtyard is a public space, which corresponds to the function of every part of Siheyuan.

the new tower There is a White Pagoda in the Siheyuan area of Xicheng District, Beijing. In the White Pagoda, I extracted its proportional relationship and formal characteristics;in the Siheyuan, I extracted its functional layout and planar form. Combining these characteristics of the two together, the combination becomes the form and function of the new tower. In this way, the new tower has the elements of the white tower and the courtyard. This is why the new tower will become the memory of the White Pagoda.

DETAILS
There is a lawn between the No. 1 Teaching Building of Qingdao University of Technology and the School of Architecture. An ancient pine tree is crossed by a sidewalk. We plan to build a campus rest space around the pine tree for students to learn and communicate. The concept starts from this ancient pine tree, and builds a pavilion that grows around the ancient pine tree. The resting seat rises around the tree, and students can sit under the tree to rest and communicate. At the same time, we put some mosquito repellent plants to resist the annoying mosquitoes in the summer.
