SHERWIN-WILLIAMS Brush & Roller Guide
Bristle type 1 Natural bristle Made with animal hairs, these brushes are used for applying oil-based paints, varnishes, shellac, polyurethane and other oil-based finishes. The natural flagging of these brushes creates split ends in the bristles that hold more paint and help ensure a smooth paint release and finish.
NOTE
Stiffer bristles are needed to push the heavy-bodied oil paint.
OIL BASED
Never use a natural animal hair brush with water-based paint. The bristles will absorb the water and expand and quickly become unusable. NATURAL BRISTLE OR STIFFER SYNTHETIC

What’s more, these durable brushes are built to handle numerous projects. So, with proper care, nylon/polyester brushes should last for years.
