Design and Development Strategy

Active corridor for neighborhood health

Canal to Canal is an exciting new urban development that will integrate surrounding areas to create a new identity for New Orleans area. The proposal utilizes the idea of a “C-to-C” approach in order to activate areas spanning between Canal Street and the canal along the Lafitte Greenway. Rooted in promoting healthy and active living, Canal to Canal revives and stimulates the desolate edges of existing surrounding neighborhoods. It energizes the site by celebrating the different edge conditions that are prevalent in the region.

Approved Lafitte Greenway Revitalization Plan (2014)

Canal to Canal

HOSPITAL The southwest boundary of the Canal to Canal development is the newly constructed VA and University Medical Centers. Canal to Canal seizes the opportunity to cater to the large influx of medical workers and patients’ families that will be drawn to the new medical campus. Medical offices, restaurants, and other amenities are provided in the proposal to cater to the hospital audience that dominates the southwestern edge. The implementation of such programs allows the infiltration of the hospital community into the active corridors of neighborhood health.
