[01] SHENZHEN BAY CULTURE PARK

The Shenzhen Bay Culture Park is an ambitious urban development project bring a vibrant cultural complex along the waterfront in Shenzhen, China. The design of the culture park is a 9.7-hectare piece of land occupied by the Museum of Craft and Design, and the Museum of Life and Science. The scheme introduces a surreal scene on a largescale into the cityscape. An earth-sheltered architecture is at the foundation of the site – an expansive green surface with a staggered layout of sculpturesque stones resting above. Public exhibition spaces are spread across the ground floor, where most of the temporary galleries for culture and technology can be found, sunken into the ground. The galleries respond to the primitive surreal atmosphere of the exterior, providing visitors with a unique experience that takes them on a journey through time and space. The rounded shape of the stone-like buildings is mirrored on the interior delivering flexible and stunning architectural effects for an indoor exhibition space. Natural light penetrates the exhibition space through subtle openings along the façade of the semi-concealed stones. Stairs along the surface of the horizontal stone, invite visitors to climb up to its apex, where people can feel the timelessness of the space. A rooftop observation deck, open-air theater, and sunken courtyard, are punctuated by large open green spaces. With a central creative plaza acting as the main focal point, an outdoor exhibition space is also set in the park.

[02] JIAXING CIVIC CENTER

Jiaxing Civic Center is located close to Nanhu Lake and the central axis of Jiaxing city in Zhejiang Province, China. The complex consists of a science and technology museum, a women and children activity center, and a youth activity center. The master plan links three functional venues hand-in-hand in a circular shape connected by a roof to enhance a sense of community and cohesion. The terrace, roof garden, central green space, landscape corridor, and outdoor theater are integrated into a whole, turning the complex into a vibrant courtyard for the city. The exterior of the architecture above the water is covered by white ceramic panels that echo elegant yet modest typical Jiangnan roof tiles. The second-level platform is the focal point of the complex. A landscape corridor and a 350m track compose the central ring corridor, where people can walk along the gentle slope to the central green space on the ground floor. The boundaries of programs are not delineated, the exhibition hall, theater, education space, activity space, parent-child center, interactive entertainment area, and other functions are organically combined to complement one another. The central green space on the ground floor is not only a place for people to rest and play, but also an open plaza where large-scale cultural activities can be staged. The architecture retreats from the inner courtyard, while the exterior and interior are separated by full-height glazing that forms varied semi-outdoor terraces and roof gardens, which are also excellent sightseeing platforms.

[03] SHENZHEN SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM

The new Shenzhen science and technology museum will be located in the core area of Guangming Central Park, west of Guangming Avenue and north of Guanghui Avenue, adjacent to the waterfront belt, with outstanding natural landscape environment in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. On the east side, there are traffic hubs and business centers, with convenient transportation and close integration of the “architecture, station and city” relationship. At the same time with the planning of cultural & sports centers, the three complexes correspond and enhance the cultural influence of the Guangming Central District. The science and technology museum takes the center of the base as the core, and connects with the natural landscape of the surrounding city as the axis, with a radial layout. Each architectural relationship can correspond to the surrounding Mt. Chai, Mt. Shi, Mt. Mao, Central Park and surrounding urban landscape. The planning of the architecture keep the urban viewing corridor align with the CBD and the Central Park. Moreover, the functional volume of each building is linked by a DNA-like flying corridor to form a spatial and time journey that is perceived by the visitors. The whole building is elevated 13 meters upwards, keeping the raised green roof as public space. It will be an important urban public space where citizens and tourists gather to communicate. Outdoor art exhibition, music and sports events, creative market and parent-child activities can all be presented here. While shaping and influencing the surrounding environment, it opens up a new relationship between the city, the architecture and the landscape.

[04] BEIJING WUKESONG SPORTS CULTURAL PARK

Beijing Wukesong Sports Cultural Park is located at the interchange of Chang’an Street extension with the west Fourth Ring Road in Beijing, China. Surrounded by Cadillac Arena on the east, which was the basketball venue of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games and also was the ice hockey venues of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Charter Mall on the north and green belt along west and south, the project has superior geographical environment. Considered the unique characteristics and culture of the surrounding area, the design was inspired by “sports” and consistently presents the theme in all aspects of architecture and landscape design to create a destination full of energy, dynamic and fashion. The project broke the traditional sense of shopping center, but built the whole project into a Sports Themed park. The design puts the main commercial functions into the sunken space on the B1 level. There are only a few small houses on the ground level, and the rest is built into an urban oasis for citizens' leisure activities. The commercial center holds a variety of tenants ranging from leisure, sports, F&B, retail and entertainment etc. The sunken plaza and surrounding lifestyle retail are designed holistically. As the space to hold exciting commercial events, the central plaza becomes the place for gathering and radiates the surrounding retail shops, making the retail street a complete loop to maximize visual connection and accessibility, creating pleasant shopping experiences and various spatial effects. Multiple architectural materials such as stone, glass and metal are used in building facade, to create a premium quality of building with exquisite details.

[05] OTHER WORKS

I like drawing, recording inspiration, and recording every bit of life. Today, hand painting is an indispensable skill. More and more electronic products and software applications are available for me to create. Powerful new technology has created a new mode for me to display design ideas, and I can exchange opinions and give feedback with others in minutes and seconds. As an 'imperfect' art that requires more creative time, manuscripts are even more valuable. In the conceptual design stage, most of my sketches are messy and casual, but the sketches drawn with all my enthusiasm can be sublimated into works of art, which are also attractive to my client. My inspiration comes from many sources. I love traveling and I find inspiration in architecture, design, music and other fields. But for me, taking notes of my life is the most important part of my creation. I like photography. I like shooting people, landscapes and buildings. I believe in simplicity first. I like to use simple geometric shapes and lines with rich colors to build a small but wonderful world and bring calm feelings to the audience. I am good at using colors. I like the combination and matching of colors in a comfortable and harmonious way in my works. Every place I have visited and every beautiful moment I have experienced will become a source of inspiration and nourish my creative garden. Architectural knowledge allows me to focus more on reflecting my personal aesthetic and artistic sensitivity when shooting. Minimal composition, rich colors and conflicting contrast often appear in my works in a single or combined way. Photography has become a way for me to express myself and match my life.
