BL
By transporting thousands of people every day, Melbourne’s tram service helps reduce congestion on our roads. So it is important to know how to share the roads with trams when driving in Melbourne. By observing the road rules when driving you will help to keep our roads safe and reduce delays to trams and their passengers:
LANE
Many roads in Melbourne have bus lanes. Bus lanes reduce delays to buses and improve the reliability and travel times of buses.
You must not drive in a bus lane except: f or up to 100 metres when entering or leaving the road t o overtake a right turner t o avoid an obstacle.
ONLY ONLY
If you turn into a road and see the lane is a bus lane you must safely move out of the bus lane within 100 metres. Fine $117
Full time bus lanes This bus lane is full time and operates 24 hours per day. You can tell it is full time because there are no times on the signs. If you are turning left into a driveway or a road, be careful to watch out for buses when merging into the bus lane to make your turn. Remember, if there are no times marked on the bus lane signs, then it is always a bus lane. Fine $117
