Eco-friendly Habit 1: Soft Plastics If you don’t already, why not take this time to start separating your soft plastics, and take them to your local supermarket to be recycled. Soft plastics include:      

Bread bags Biscuit packets (wrapper only) Confectionery wrappers Paper goods packaging Frozen food bags Cereal box liners

    

Pet food pouches Silver-lined chip packets Fresh produce bags Plastic bags Bubble wrap

It is amazing what a significant part of your rubbish, soft plastics can be! All your soft plastics need to be DRY and CLEAN, so no food scraps, crumbs, clips or receipts! And remember:       

NO hard plastics / rigid containers NO tins / cans NO glass NO paper / cardboard NO bread bag tags* NO tablet packaging NO rubber (incl. no balloons)

    

NO polystyrene / foam NO drinking straws NO wrapping paper, ribbons or bows NO adhesive tape NO degradable/biodegradable/ compostable bags

If you take your soft plastics to Coles, Woolworths or any other local REDcycle (www.redcycle.net.au) recycling bin, they will recycle them for you. They process the soft plastics and then deliver it to Victorian manufacturer, Replas, who use the material to produce a huge range of recycled plastic products. These include fitness circuits, sturdy outdoor furniture, bollards, signage and more.
