MASTER’S PROJECT SEMESTER 2

Prof. Andrea Manfredi

FASHION RETAIL STORE FOR HANDBAGS Studio focuses on designing a retail store for fashion handbags brand from Tuscany- “The Bridge”, who works with naturally tanned Italian leather with precision. As an outcome the bags are classy elegant and designed for youth who believes in older craftsmen tradition as well as nomadic, slow life culture of today. Today the brand needs a kind of revolution that can get them customers of youth.

The site is located at one of the main shopping streets of the city.

CONCEPT Form Evolution

The orthogonal existing grid expresses a general idea of a stereotypical right angled space. Rotating the grid helps develop an entire new perception. Using two different grids and choosing the right spatial placement of modules of display. The sense of grid is enhanced by showing the grid on walls, ceilings and also on floor and use it as a structurally. Changing the perception of the product for modified target group of the brand: Brand since all these years has been perceived as stereotypical leather brand. The brand identity is unanchored to the new target group. Product as the main art and space as the art installation to focus the product. Changing perception of the product and not the space to focus details of the product from different directions and angles. Sharp angles, crisp edges, mirrored surfaces And pure geometric forms delineate areas for display.

THEATRE DESIGN

Site for stage design consists of a templea tank surrounded by many dense urban settlements. Located in the vicinity of the Khanderao market, the Talav- Lake can be approached from multiple routes. Various accesses are through a residential area, a commercial zone and a temple compound. The permanent steps and temporary stage construction is taken as an important feature of the design proposal.

Bachelor’s Project Semester 8

Prof. Sunita Dalvi(Urban Designer)

THEATRE STAGE AND PLAY SEQUENCE DESIGN Studio is based on Vijay Tendulkar’s Marathi play ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’. From direction to drama and music, play took its own ‘point of departure’. While adding the context of Baroda city and the rich history of Maratha rule, studio takes opportunity to translate text into spatial construction of events. The lake’s connection with the temple is taken as proposed settling within the settling within the city for stage design for play. Psychology of physical spaces is taken as an extension for design concept of the studio.

CONCEPT- Theatre In Everyday Life Inference of Pol Houses and Sevasi Stepwell, Vadodara

In the everyday life, when you take a pause that is the time when you realize sense the situation you were in and it also gives you further predictions. To sense the situation, while being in the situation, we have to take a pause-ln everyday life cases like pol houses- when you are walking and take a pause, you get to observe some people stationary on their otlas- plinths and “Varandas. To control pause-a variable of place is to make alterations the fabrics of facts, allowing to subtract or add and not just the flow in space, but also alter and erase events- It allows — one to get connected to alternate realities, even altering our way of pursuing reality.

Stepwell and kund both have same purpose to ensure the water during periods of drought and both are built according to the human scale and proportions. Once you are inside the stepwell, there is a sense of dislocation from the outer city, where there is powerplay of light and shadows and junctions which focus on the telescopic views, which is a major pause from the rush of everyday life within the city. Within this pause there are further pause junctions which generate multiple nodes of focus. While walking down towards the water, water remains the main node of focus and the perspective created by the structure of the stepwell becomes secondary node of focus. While resting on the landings or climbing up, you get the gap wherein you get to observe the space you were part of because of the shadows and the angle of vision. Stepwell has its own social, cultural and religious importance within itself because of the emergence of acts and the decorations in it. Stepwell creates a kind of spiritual backdrop because of the acts of ritual bathing and prayers. It is a pause within the city, so it also becomes the social gathering space.

CONCEPT- Theatre In Everyday Life Inference of Ghats of Banaras

When experiencing the ghats of Banaras on foot, our senses capture the close proximics but the visual elements are obstructed. While observing the ghats by boat away from the rush of the city, one has the opportunity to see the elements of pause and movement inwhich you were moving inside. Movement takes place from urban transportation centres to the ghats, from adjoining streets to the ghats, and between the ghats and movement and pause on a ghat.

The doorway provides the sense of direction towards the focal point because of its scale which acts as an axis. Movement direction is aligned by axis which also depends on the undefined nodes - pauses and the defined nodes -start/end points for an action/events.

Plan Design Evolution through inferences

Allowing streets of the city to come to these points from these access pathways with reference to the site. These points are the junction wherein the pause takes place. Manipulation of pauses- alteration of reality leads to further experiences or predictions of the events and situations. Axis leads to the focal points in between as levels-events and the spaces created by the axis so it’s also an organizing element. Axis generates further ordered pauses.

CORPORATE OFFICE DESIGN Bachelor’s Project Semester 7

Prof. Percy Adil Pithawala

CORPORATE OFFICE DESIGN IN AN OLD PRESS BUILDING Gucci being one of the most desirable luxury fashion house of the world, essence of fashion is generated by creating a ramp for circulation. Spaces are divided in such a manner that ramp is visually or/and physically connected to all the departments. Moreover, the ramp can be used for the discussions and trial basis and also for circulation on daily basis. Open floor plan is adopted to serve the requirements of collaborative environment and work culture of the brand.

Trendy Luxury Unique Design Quality Comfort Customization

Gucci is an Italian luxury brand of fashion and fine leather goods, part of the Gucci Group- Kering.Gucci is a world-famous symbol of quality that accompanies the elite, in everyday life and also on the red carpet. Brand Philosophy: Balance between tradition and innovation, past merges with the signs of future, empowering imagination.

CONCEPT Development of main design elements- The ramp, the bridge and the staircase for private events in basement Wearing Gucci generates a feeling of getting noted walking on a rampcarrying something very trendy and luxurious. The idea of multifunctional ramp which can be used while finalizing the design while discussing it there only, wherein there can be fashion pre-events can take place. Otherwise it can be used as a circulation path. While walking on the ramp, one will experience the different layers of trusses, windows and light coming from the roof.

Nodes

RAMP

BRIDGE

STAIRCASE

All main nodes of circulation elements adds dynamism to the static space. Anything happening on the ramp or bridge seeks the attention and creates the focal point it leads to improve the relationship in different spheres of activities. • Ramp is placed in an appropriate pocket created by current structure of the building and spaces are divided respecting the existing structure and the placement of the ramp. • Cut-out in the ground floor serves as an interactive and multi-functional circulation path, shoots, practice, discussions, open workspace and it adds visual connections among levels. All the breakout spaces opens up on the edge and get a view of basement . • Mezzanine floors are connected to each other with a bridge that opens to the cut-out connected to basement and it is visually connected to the ramp.

RETAIL STORE AND WORKSHOP SPACE DESIGN Echo of customers reviews and choices about knives are dissolved in brand values to generate more precise and accurate blade of knives. Moreover, meticulous process of proportionate mixture of metals adds value to it. The overlap of metals is taken forward as a concept and the spaces are divided according to the projections of polygon and segregation of knives. The polygon is punctured in such a manner that creates connections between spaces but the frames of the polygon remain intact. Space for workshop is allotted in the center of the shop to generate more live environment for the retail shop.
