EDUCATION Bachelors in Interior designing Navrachana University - School of Environmental Design and Architecture Vadodara, Gujarat 2013-2017 10+2 Class of 2013 St. Joseph’s Convent S.S. School Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh “I discovered my passion for creativity at a young age. I would spend my time sketching and recreating corners of my house in my own ways. I have always had a strong fascination with geometry and interior architecture, which lead me to pursue my career in Interior Design. Each project I have completed during my education has given me the knowledge of both creativity and technical work to take on new challenges and work towards designing solutions. I strongly believe in the power of design inspired through lived habitats and nature. I hope to utilize my learnings and skills and apply them to my future projects in my career of interior design while continuing to expand my design knowledge and passion.”

Concept development and division of spaces through Matrix.

01 RESIDENTIAL DESIGN In the residence studio, we were given a site, which was a penthouse. My clients were two company executives working separately. A lady who was a photographer and a man who worked as a gourmet chef. Both had their independent life and friend circle. Task was to design a space where both can work on their professional activity without disturbing the other, but also at the same time had interacting spaces as well.

STUDIO SEMESTER 5 EXERCISE 2

CONCEPT

The idea of FREEDOM within DISCIPLINE. The concept started with two solid tubes inversing the void in the space into mass and providing them flexibility to flow within the existing structural grid. The idea was to create a space by taking two contrasting form in consideration as a GRID and a BLOB.

PROCESS

Understanding the functional attribute of a VAV as water storage and going through its architectural experiences in terms of strong axis and its magnetic downward pull. Understanding the soul mechanism of INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC and its magnitude in expression.

02 ADAPTIVE RE-USE SEVASI STEPWELL

MUSEUM FOR INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC INSTRUMENTS

The project was to build a museum for Indian classical music instruments in the step-well without disturbing the self-standing structure. The idea was to merge the architectural value with the cultural values, this was achieved by adding a function into the existing heritage structure, so that it can also be preserved. Also keeping in mind that the existing structure is not damaged. To create a performance area of INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC in the vav, analysis was done to understand the acoustic and sound quality of different types of instrument at different level. To maintain a strong axis of the vav the experience of walking in museum should be such that people develop sensitivity towards existing structure. Placing displays on different levels so the downward movement can be experienced.

STUDIO SEMESTER 4

The BLOB has laminated timber structure as load bearing encased in steel frame around the blob.

STRUCTURE

In order to, preserve the existing structure without any disturbance a system of inter-locking of wooden joist is adapted. This also follows the existing grid pattern of Vav, enhancing the sacredness and true essence of the heritage structure.

03 MODULAR LIVING SPACE SHIP CONTAINER

This four week studio exercise was to create a modular living space for self. This was to be done in a ship container where there were other containers adjacent to mine, over a canal. In this exercise, I analyzed myself, my lifestyle and represented my personality diagrammatically. Later this helped in generating spaces and creating a room that defines me.

STUDIO SEMESTER 5 EXERCISE 1

JOURNEY THROUGH THE STORE

Threshold area-the very first space where customers step into. -First thing the customers see as entering. -Walking through the path-slowing down the movement-movement and pause. -Comfort -Checkout counter.

DISPLAY SYSTEM

04 RETAIL DESIGN

The concept for the display system is layering and texture in shun knives. The Damascus property of the shun knives (layering on the blade) is a process whose resultant is the texture on the blade. The uniqueness of shun is that they leave the Damascus grains raw on the blade. Shun has 10 series of knives. Each series has different way of making, texture and finishing as the making process is different for each one. After observing the different textures on each blade of the series, one common thing among them were the contour like lines on each blade. Taking these contour like lines and highlighting them as knife display system.

SHOWROOM FOR THE KNIFE BRAND ‘SHUN’ - JAPANESE BRAND In japan, the blade has long been more than just a tool; the way of the blade is a way of life. The task was to design a store which reflected the individuality of the brand with a display system that were meant only for knives. Further, understanding the brand and its identity and further reflecting it in the retail space. The site was in the center Square mall in Vadodara.

PROCESS

The basic concept of overlapping curves on the grid, where grid speaks of consistency of the brand and curves shows the nature of the product.

06 CORPORATE DESIGN FOR COCO-COLA BRAND

A space to create a new and different kind of work environment which would celebrate the motto of the company “share happiness. Generating a space where people with different fields of interest come together to share ideas and have a fun and light work environment. The site offered was Decathlon in vadodara city. The site being a large open space, connectivity was integrated through the curves as sculptor in the space.

SET DESIGNING FOR A MARATHI PLAY Play- Ghashiram Kotwal Site- sarkar wada, Vadodara

STUDIO SEMESTER 8

PUNE BASED PLAY- UNDERSTANDING THE CONNECTION WITH THE CITY

LANGUAGE OF THE WADAS OF THE CITY

The city of Poona was set up to showcase its pride and tradition. From where it stands now, it narrates its journey and the values it holds. On a larger scale, each cluster, as called a peth has its own story. Exploring inside the peths, came different wadas with smaller houses further. The narrow and the crooked path along these houses told that the growth of the settlement was organic. Holding the play, “Ghasiram Kotwal” with the city it is linked with, one starts to understand the connection between the two. Going with the concept, as there is always a reason for every action and for that impact of the action to happen, there is a catalyst promoting it. After walking through the streets of Poona, one realizes that there is same kind of situations that took place in the settlement of the city, as the ones in the play. In the play, there is rise and fall of characters and situations. In the same way, even in the city, there is rise and fall in the settlements. Wadas of Poona hold hierarchy. Like in the play, some powers were greater than the other. Entering in the wadas, there was always a courtyard with further leaded to the house inside. Some were big, some were small, some houses had one big courtyard, and some has multiple small ones. But every courtyard was leading to the inside of the house. Every courtyard has its own importance and functions taking place. Some were for social gatherings; some were private with rooms around and some with wells and stores. It is a space you have to pass from before entering the house. This space leads you further. It was a two way space, giving inside-outside interaction. It complimented the house as well as the gateway of the wada. It was like a bridge between the outside and the inside. These semi-open spaces are like the catalyst in the play, helping the two ends to meet, to make a situation possible. This interactive space in between, can’t be stated just inside or outside space. It fulfills the need of both and becomes the reason of an action to take place, also having an impact on the both. -Yashvi Khodiyar

ABSTRACT Attention to details is something one should keep in mind while designing a space. The purpose of this study is to understand details and it’s relationship to the whole, where the details in the space influences the design. When it comes to design of a space, it is important for each part to be meaningful in relation to the whole, for whole to regulate its component parts, and for tension to exist between the two. Firstly developing a clarity in defining and identifying details and learning its significance in design. The next part tries to understand the various factors that affects the expression of details. Once certain properties or attributes are established, further elaboration and conclusion is done by studying the works of the master architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Studying the different scales, styles and details explored by the architect, understanding how detailing plays an important role in defining the character of the whole space.

09 THESIS

IMPACT OF DETAILS IN INTERIOR SPACES- RESEARCH THESIS The thesis aims to address a method of designing where details becomes a tool or a starting point to design spaces, rather than designing it in a conventional way where it is the last thing to pay attention to. The idea of taking a note on these details since the preliminary stage will lead to the interaction between each part to the whole where the whole is sustained because of these parts. There parts play a major role in creating the language of the space. The inferences after studying the buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright, discusses about the possibility of details to become guiding point of a design.
