About my designs I usually define myself as an observer of life then a designer. I believe design is from daily life, and we unconsciously live in a world of design. So my designs are based on my own life experience.

Assistive Chair Help to stand up from a sitted position

Knee Replacement

51.4 million Inpatient Surgeries happen 719,000 knee replacements 332,000 hip replacements

Whether it is from an injury, surgery or disability we have noticed getting up from a chair can be challenging for people. It is much harder than we thought for a person with an impairment to stand up or sit down. We want to design a chair that will reduce their pain and discomfort.

In our ideation part, we focus on all the possible life scene that a person with diffculties on standing up from a seated possition. The purspose for doing this is try to not blind our eyes and limit ourselves. And the final dicision is to go with assistive chair, because this is people usually deal with.

Credit card

Use the timer to calculate the time you stay in one parking spot.

Link your credit card to the app. After you leave the parking lot, the money will automatically be withdrawn from the card.

ToGo Box Gum Container Redesign

The gum container in the market right now has two main problems. First, when you put the gum container inside your bag, they have a great chance of accidentally opening up. And it is dirty to pick up the gum from the inside of the container.

I do not like the design of current gum container.

03/Feature points

The container can separate two different flavors. This also means this container could have two kinds of flavor. To refill, you open the top part.

The bottom portion is locked and cannot be open. So the only way you want to take your gum out is to turn the bottom part to the left or right.

If you try to put this container on the table, it is not going to roll all over the place. It will stay where it is.

Observation

The taps right now in the market needs some improvements. There are always two taps to control the hot and cold water. First, it takes time to figure out which one controls hot water and which one controls cold water. It is really hard to adjust the temperature. And most people do not know the best temperature for showering.

04/Research "Washing the face in the shower with hot water at 112 degrees followed by a splash of cold water may help open up the pores to clean them out better, then close them tight for healthy-looking facial skin, she says. Dermatologists generally define cold water as around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, though some doctors may put it at a lower temperature." "The optimal temperature to wash away environmental dirt and bacteria, she says, is 112 degrees or lower, “though you’d have to put a thermometer under the spigot to get an exact reading.” A shower orbath “should feel warm and not uncomfortably hot,” she says." 04/Feature points

Cube The design is a cube with four rectangular-shaped button on each side. Instead of a touch screen, this screen is just for display. Use the button on the left and right to adjust the temperature. The range of the adjustment is plus/minus ten degree Fahrenheit. For example, in this case, it is in the "Best shower temperature" mode. I feel this preinstalled temperature is a little bit cold for me, then I can adjust it up to 112 degree Fahrenheit.

Rotate When user wants to change the mode from one to another, simply rotate the whole cube. The mode will be selected and started when the cube is re-leveled.

04/Interaction Design

P r e s s d ow n a ny o f t h e f o u r rectangular-shaped button to awake the system.

There are three preinstall mode and one customize mode. Rotate the whole cube to change the mode.

Press down and hold any of the four rectangular-shaped button for three seconds to shut down the system.

Coco Coconut Opener

Process Experiencing

Coconut is really popular throughout the world, and almost every grocery store that you walk in is selling coconut. Coconut juice and pulp is inside of the shell, which has 208 Brinell Hardness Number in Bridenll Scale( Stainless steel usually has a BHN around 250). However, the way people open a coconut is really barbarous. The most popular way of opening coconuts is by using choppers. However, this is really inconvenient and dangerous for people to use, especially for people who wants to open a coconut at home. Therefore, I come up with this idea to design a coconut opener that is easy to use and also safe to use.

THE PUSHER

A blade connects to the handle at the top. It is made by stainless steel.

THE HOLDER

The big container tube in the middle can be made by butyrate, which is a thermoset plastic. Butyrate has great dimensional stability and high impact strength. It is moisture resistant. Butyrate does not have any report toxins or risks other than manufacturing risks.

THE FILTER

The filter is made out of butyrate and stainless steel.

THE BOWL

The bowl part is in butyrate, which is thermoset plastic.

THE BLADE TABLE

The bottom part has a circular cone in the center of a cross blade. They are made of stainless steel.

Juicer Reverse Engineer project

06/ Project Brief

TTTThis is a reverse engineer project. The goal of it is to use solidwork to make a 3D model that is 1:1 to the real product by measuring the real Black and Decker juicer. I experience the process of measuring each parts, analyzing, and planing. And I believe it is ture that one need to know how to make a real product that exists before start their own design.
