Ada sejumlah pelukis yang menonjol saat itu, seperti Ida Bagus Rai Griya, I Gusti Made Rundu, Ida Bagus Pugug, I Sukaria, I Pitja, Ida Bagus Nyoman Rai, I Gusti Made Oka (A.A Made Rum), dan Ketut Regig. Beberapa diantaranya menjadi koleksi Museum Bali, Museum Puri Lukisan, Museum Sono Budoyo (Yogyakarta), Gedong Kirtya, Pusat Dokumentasi Budaya Bali, Taman Budaya Bali, Istana Negara RI, Tropen Museum (Belanda), Museum Voon Ryikskunde Leiden (Belanda), Museum Volkerkunde Basel (Swiss). Generasi “Sanur School” perlahan hilang ditelan sejarah.
Made ‘Dollar’ Astawa, Ida Bagus Putu Purwa, I Wayan Paramartha, I Made ‘Romi’ Sukadana, I Wayan ‘Anyon’ Muliastra, I Ketut Teja Astawa, I Wayan ‘Apel’ Hendrawan, I Kadek Budi Adnyana, A.A. Ngurah Paramartha, V. Dedy Reru.
membangun rumah menerapkan konsep Asta Kosala Kosali.
Langit Gemilang Satu Natah Tiga Langit - 10 Fine Art
Rwâneka dhâtu winuwus Buddha Wiswa, Bhinnêki rakwa ring apan kena parwanosen, Mangka ing Jinatwa kalawan Siwatatwa tunggal, Bhinnêka tunggal ika tan hana dharma mangrwa. It is said that the well known Buddha and Shiva are two different substances. They are indeed different, yet how is it possible to recognize their difference in a glance, since the truth of Buddha and the truth of Shiva is one. They are indeed different, but they are of the same kind, as there is no duality in Truth. Bhinneka Tunggal Ika is the official national motto of Indonesia. The phrase is Old Javanese translated as "Unity in Diversity". It is inscribed in the Indonesian national symbol, Garuda Pancasila, written on the scroll gripped by the Garuda's claws. This quotation from a poem written during the Majapahit Empire in the 14th century promotes tolerance between Hindus (Shivaites) and Buddhists. The key to all successful relationships, and perhaps the wisest virtue of them all is tolerance. Through tolerance one may appreciate, come to accept and learn from that which is different or foreign to the observer. Through tolerance we may all ultimately achieve harmony. And it is tolerance that is one of the fundamentals and binding strengths that allows 10 Fine Art, a group of ten artists from the Denpasar/Sanur region of Bali to coexist and thrive. On January 6, 2004 10 artists, I Made 'Dollar' Astawa, Ida Bagus Putu Purwa, I Wayan Paramartha, I Made 'Romi' Sukadana, I Wayan 'Anyon' Muliastra, I Ketut Teja Astawa, I Wayan ' Apel' Hendrawan, I Kadek Budiadnyana, A.A Ngurah Paramartha and Vinsensius Dedy Reru formed a special artistic allegiance. To honor the ideal that nether the group, 10 Fine Art, nor the individual is more important, each are inherently the same. History reveals that Balinese art has evolved from a collective experience whereby paintings were created by the community (Classical Wayang style) as an offering to the Gods, to a private artistic expression and solely individual experience. Yet within the short history of Balinese modern and contemporary art, art collectives have played a vital role, and continue to do so. The seaside village of Sanur has its own unique story within the context of Balinese art. Not long after the establishment of the Pita Maha artists collective in Ubud in 1936 by Tjokorda Agung Sukawati, Prince of Ubud, senior local artists and expat Europeans, Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet, two important “schools” of art began to flourish in Bali. They were known individually as the Ubud and the Sanur schools of art. Each group revitalized the cultural iconography of their forefathers and transformed it into modern narratives. The Sanur school was supported by two foreign art dealers (the brothers Neuhaus) who settled in Sanur and their compositions of10 reflected the distinctive styles of expression of the members and of course elements of their coastal environment. The occupation of Bali by the Japanese invading forces and WWII led to the demise of both of these art collectives by the mid 1940ʼs. It wasnʼt until 1995 that another collective came to prominence in Sanur. An important exhibition was held displaying works of the generation of the Sanur School alongside the new local talent and this was to be the catalyst to reviving the collective spirit, and hence the Sanur Painters Society (HPS) was born. This was a mixed group of professional and hobby painters, both academically trained as well as selftaught, however within the span of 10 years the group had disbanded.

The 10 Fine Art (10FA) collective consolidated their arrival on the Sanur art scene in early 2004 by opening a modest gallery in the tourist/commercial district that was to become the epicenter for a growing community of artists. Their wish was to create an alternative space for interaction and conduct many activities and exhibitions within the gallery, yet also to have direct access to the art market. 10FA, with their individual and various academic experiences where inspired by a freedom for personal creative expression. One of the fundamentals of the 10FA is to draw on their local knowledge gained through the Balinese Banjar, community cooperative system. Not only do the members share and interact in their creative pursuits between one another, yet their gallery allows a nurturing space to share individual life experiences gained in the process of maturing, raising families and growing in an adult world. 10FA has evolved into multi-layered support system encouraging the memberʼs personal and creative learning process, yet also learning to balance egos within the collective experience. In 2012 economic circumstances led to the closure of the 10FA gallery and its headquarters were relocated to Yayaa Artspace and Warung in the south of Sanur. Then, on January 10, 2013, 10FA was entrusted to manage Sand Fine Art Gallery located beachside in Sanur where they held a soft opening by featuring a number of works of the 10FA artists on February 24. Satu Natah, Tiga Langit (One Home Under Three Skies) is the theme for 10FAʼs current art project; 10 Fine Art Tour 2013, whereby the group will exhibit together, plus one guest artist, in three different locations (or under Tiga Langit – Three Skies) in Indonesia. The first event, Langit Gemintang featured sculptures by Wayan Jana at the Sand Fine Art Gallery in Sanur from 5-26th May. The next event, Langit Benderang featured Made ʻBayakʼ Muliana and his distinctive works made from plastic trash at the Jakarta Anniversary Festival 5-29th June and this the final event, Langit Gemilang features sculptor Ida Bagus Putu Gede Sutama at the Sangkring Art Project, Yogyakarta from 5-26th July, 2013. Within the Balinese Hindu concept of Asta Kosala Kosali (Balinese architectural science), "natah" or the home is the epicenter of the family constellation and its spatial relationships and therefore holds an essential social and cultural context for the Balinese. Natah is a scared symbol that explains the directional functions of the compass and, for example, the placement of all structures within the Balinese family compound. Natah is a code that unites heaven and earth and functions to balance the energies between the sekala and niskala (visible and non visible worlds). For the artists of 10FA natah or home is Sanur, yet within the 10 Fine Art Tour 2013 they travel outside of their island home of Bali to share their experience “under two other skies” to welcoming art communities in Java. Under the bright sky (Langit Gemilang) of the cultural capital of Java, Yogyakarta and at the Sangkring Art Project 9 members of 10FA exhibit 2 canvases and each of the 10 members contribute to one large mural, along with the extraordinary works of sculpture by Ida Bagus Gede Putu Sutama. With strong connections to the art community in Yogyakarta the Sangkring Art Project is indeed a home away from home for the members of 10FA. Indonesia is a nation built upon pluralism and cultural multiplicity and contemporary art is a vehicle through which groups such as 10FA may communicate to a greater audience. 10FAʼs success has been achieved through an understanding and a celebration of Unity in Diversity and their message is a wish for harmony and greater tolerance accomplished via the meeting and sharing between contemporary art communities.
Richard Horstman (b. 1964 Melbourne) is a cultural observer, writer and consultant who lives in Ubud. He is on the Board of Directors of the Bali Art Society and is dedicated to raising the profile of contemporary art in Bali.
