The Qi Pao is a traditional dress for Chinese women that has a history dating back for nearly six hundred years. The style of the Qi Pao has evolved according to changing tastes as well as a changing society. Originally worn by Manchu people during the Qing Dynasty, the Qi Pao was fitted loosely and hung straight down the body or flared slightly in an A-line. Â The modern revival of the Qi Pao comes from 1920's Shanghai and is a tight-fitting dress usually reserved for formal occasions. Today's Qi Pao is made of brightly colored silk or satin with rich Chinese embroidery. Qi Pao are commonly seen in beauty contests and often serve as uniforms for hotel and restaurant staff as well as flight attendants for some Chinese airlines. The dress has also regained popularity as formal wear for young and old alike. Inexorably linked to the culture that created it, the form and history of the Qi Pao can draw parallels to the complexity of the culture from which it was born.

Ye Lu Teacher Stay in Bali since July 2010 Ye Lu is passionate about life a n d t h e l o v e o f fl o w e r fragrances and children Having a bit of old-fashioned attitude towards the world, I have always been fascinated by the traditional Chinese Qi Pao, especially red Qi Pao. Wearing a Qi Pao and, even better, the painting Qi Pao is, for me, a meaningful way to celebrate the Chinese New Year of 2013. Â I have been inspired by Bali, a gathering place of artists, worldwide. I am blessed to have this solo painting exhibition. As a nonprofessional painter, I sincerely hope my passion for painting and life will convey my best wishes to my beloved country as well as bringing an interest in China during this Chinese New Year.
