THERE ARE LOTS OF SOLUTIONS OFFERED BY GOVERNMENT WHICH PRIORITIZE PHYSICAL ASPECTS WITHOUT PAYING SPECIFIC ATTENTION TOWARD SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ASPECTS AS A PART OF SOCIETY IN SPECIFIC AREA. FOR INSTANCE, A HOUSE IS NOT MERELY A PLACE TO SLEEP FOR LOCAL VILLAGERS, BUT ALSO AS A PLACE WHERE SOCIAL INTERACTION HAPPENS AND A PLACE TO START SMALL INDEPENDENT SHOP.
Ramp as a circulation connector for each floor can distinguish hierarchy in term of social gap. Residential units are placed side to side with open corridor. Beside maximizing natural lighting, but also makes the space has ‘integrating’ characteristic between indoor and outdoor space. Building’s orientation and communal space (plaza) which facing the river as view are intentional, so that local villagers can respect their environment as they take care of their home.

Trans Semarang is one of the popular mode of transportations in Semarang. Trans Semarang itself has 4 corridors with more than 190 bus stops. But among many stops, only few of them that fulfill the bus stop standards which assigned by Semarang’s Department of Transportation. Bus stops which built on sidewalk area causes lack of spesific area to do expansion or to give space for pedestrians. Vandalism is also an issue that is hard to solve. Upon that issue, the demand to find solutions in form of design and space is very needed. A solution that can answer and facilitate the needs of pedestrians and bus stop users at once with minimal site as the challenge. Space creation for mankind.

SHOPPING CENTER DEFINED AS A GROUP OF RETAILS WITH VARIOUS FACILITIES IN IT, BUT IN FACT, IT IS NOT ABLE TO BE A PLACE MAKER FOR SHOPPING CENTRE’S FUNCTION ITSELF YET.
The concept of Shopping Center Place Making offers shopping centers that able to be a place-making, especially to the commercial area that is neighboring the historical recreation area and city’s landmark. This thing represented by forms, function and graceful shopping scale, humanist, yet contextual with surrounding areas. Moreover, tropical architecture approach is done by separating big building mass with different function without eliminating the room requirement, followed by injecting green elements in form of open air exhibition and inner court in the shopping center. Therefore, shopping center is not merely a place to shop, but also a recreative medium that can attract visitors.

Bantar Gebang, the area of waste hoarding which located 20 miles from the biggest city in Southeast Asia; Jakarta, Indonesia. More than 2.000 families live and work in a mountain of trash as high as 80 feet. 75% of trash in Jakarta are abandoned each day, while garbage trucks keep adding more than 900.000 feet cubic of trash or around 6.600 tons of trash each day to the laystall. Society lives in danger of health, such as tapeworm infection that caused by unsanitary environment, malnutrition and the risk of landslide at the mountain of trash. The issues don’t stop there, there are also many underage workers that are below 12 years old that have to help their parents and are willing to sacrifice their childhood playing in mountain of trash. How will their future be if their space of identity shaper is not feasible?

The indicator of society’s psychological aspects that can be the parameter is index of hapiness. The minimal public space and how not feasible they are become one of the important reasons of degrading society’s happiness index (urban stress). Society’s growing paradigm is a condition where there is lack of interest and responsibility to own, maintain and build public space as social interaction medium in the city. “The definition of good city is when its society want to step out of their house voluntarily” (Ridwan Kamil)

KULONPROGO DISTRICT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST COCONUT PRODUCERS IN YOGYAKARTA WITH TOTAL PLANTATION AREA OF 10.000 HA OUT OF 34.208 HA TOTAL PLANTATION AREA IN YOGYAKARTA. COCONUT ITSELF IS A MULTIPURPOSE RESOURCE FOR TROPICAL SOCIETY. ALMOST ALL PARTS OF IT CAN BE USED BY SOCIETY. ITS LEAF CAN BE USED AS ROOF AFTER IT IS DRIED. COCONUT’S YOUNG LEAVES ARE CALLED JANUR, IT IS USED AS PLAITING MATERIAL FOR KETUPAT MAKING OR VARIOUS INTERESTING FORMS OF ACCESSORIES. DRIED COCONUT’S YOUNG LEAVES STEM ARE CALLED LIDI, THEY ARE ASSEMBLED AS ONE OBJECT AND BECOME BROOM.
GRHSA is a cohesion of two Sanskrit words, Grha, and Asa. Grha means shelter or home, while Asa means hope. There is a hope and big potency in Kulonprogo district, like coconut plantation. It’s simple, but this big potency will be a sustainable resource if it’s properly utilized. Upon that potency, came an idea to create a cultural center, workshop and gues thouse to proliferate that potency.

A new mass which located on top of old building has obligation to synergy with old building to aviod dead space between two masses. This dead space will generate new problem which related to old room’s function that turns to be not conducive. The old building, which is Culinary Paradise Dock has become a part of Batam’s society for a long time, because it has been a place to eat nor to hangout with family, friendsm and bussines colleage. Thus, maximum effort for not disturbing existing building becomes the main issue; where column module adjustment in new building mass in order to avoid old building’s massive demolishing. Shaping ground terrace which located below parking lot also supports the sustainability of that site, thus its function as multipurpose plaza still can be functional as it is.
