Hybridization

We Grow |

Upon completion of the analyses, students were to share their models and drawings with a partner, from which each student was to produce a hybrid of them and their partner's precedents on an individual basis. Shown below is my hybrid of Nest We Grow and Studio Muoto's Public Condenser, which was studied by my colleague Jackson Braden.

Emerged Form mid-sized winery | Carneros Valley, CA

2021 | ARC 208 | Prof. Timothy Stenson

This project for a Winery in Carneros Valley places an emphasis on formal integration into an existent hill with a specialized program. The production and visitor sequences exist alongside the other and exhibit distinct spatial directionalites; the former appears more linear and tunneled while the latter extends perpendicularly along its path. The winery emerges from a prominent mound and extends its silhouette while framing, with the existing trees, a vineyard garden.

Sharing Space music learning center | Syracuse, NY

The concept of sharing is adopted as a response to the costs traditionally associated with music education in light of the financial disadvantages facing students of the area. Thus the project sought to embody and promote sharing. The derived organization was that of the individual against the collective, where individual cell-like classrooms are contained in a fluid shell that links all the parts together. The individual rooms are humbly scaled in anticipation of more informal, smaller-scale but more frequent sharing to take place. These rooms are “arranged along” three programmatic blocks: the cafe, the library, and the auditorium. Each enables different modes of sharing, but the open connections between them recognizes the fluidity of these modes and affinities.
