WALKING

B
ACKGROUND
In many developing countries walking is the primary mode of transportation. Every day, millions are exposed to unsanitary conditions that could lead to diseases such as hookworm, threadworm, and podoconiosis. These diseases may lead to sickness, amputation or even death. They also keep children out of school, leaving them without an education and continuing the cycle of poverty.
Motivation With that in mind, my team want to help them and make a change. Therefore we urged ourselves to design and make a footwear with the use of low cost materials provided by school. In this project, we were limited to utilise used cardboard and cotton gloves only.

1
The Making of Ranger Cardboards were cut into strips and glued with epoxy resin.
2
Next, we made parallel cuts on the upper of the Ranger to create zigzag like patterns, allowing it to bend effectively without taking away any of its stiffness.
4
3
Cotton fabric is then used to stick at the bottom of insole to improve its ventilation, flexibility and act as cushioning as well.
Making use of these corrugated patterns as tractions to increase friction while giving a strong support to the user’s feet.
Each outsole has three separated parts and they provide support to counter the pressure while giving better flexibility for the user’s feet.

First prototype being tested on feet and improved later on.

The straps of the slippers are also made out of cotton, which are braided together. This material ensures maximum comfort and durability.

The intended purpose is to upcycle and push the boundary of what cotton and cardboard can do. Thus, this pair of slippers were designed with the intention of helping the world’s poor, by using recyclable alternative that can be mass produced easily where production cost and buildability cost is low.

Brewing
13
It’s Time To Brew Your Own Coffee!
Besides water, coffee is the most consumed beverage on Earth.
However...
not many of us know how to brew and how it works.
We became overly dependent on machines
Therefore I want to do something about it.
14
Manual Brewing Makes Us Appreciate The Little Things / The way the grounds swell as the carbon dioxide is released at first contact with water and the gentle dripping of brown coffee from the pour over cone into the cup. Pour over brewing helps us focus with slow, meditative pouring. These moments, though seemingly small, have the power to settle us into the present, because we have to be intentional about them.
Why Pour-over / It is the ‘cleanest’ and ‘purest’ way to make and drink coffee. It is bold yet without even a hint of residue in coffee.
Design direction / After knowing that most of the people are lack of confidence, experience and professional skills to brew coffee, I designed a pour-over coffee brewer that produces great quality coffee without the need of having professional skill.
15
A delicate and smart coffee brewer that allows user to brew a cup of good coffee without the need of experience or professional knowledge.

Transparency Transparent body allows user to observe what is happening inside while brewing
Even Extraction Water distributes evenly onto coffee powder from water chamber when it rotates
How /
Why It Matters /
Unlike ordinary coffee drippers, water will cover the entire surface of coffee ground as water dispenser makes a 360 degree rotation on the dripper. All user need to do is to turn and control the rotational speed of Dripo
This can avoid or reduces the chance of both over extraction and under extraction that could result bitter and sour taste in coffee respectively. DRIPO makes a cup of perfect coffee with ease.

21
Overview / The main purpose behind the design and creation of Dripo is to encourage coffee lovers to get their hands on manual brewing method and have better understanding of coffee. They deserve to get a chance to try such a meditative and pleasant experience.

MAMBA Mamba’s aggressive and aerodynamic body concept was inspired by the head structure of snakes. It has a huge front air dam for better air flow and stability during high speed driving. The windshield is low, smooth and covers the entire interior of the car. As a result, it reduces air resistance.

SCAN ME!
“Life is like sailing against the current, either you keep forging ahead or keep falling behind. This chinese proverb is what keeps me moving forward and to embrace new challenges in life. It also leads me to the Kaizen philosophy which refers to constant and continuous improvement. This is a mindset I have been living with. I will always link it with my work as I believe the design that I came out with is merely one solution, but not the only one. This act as a motivation for me to seek continuous growth and stay humble at all time.
