Do NOT be ashamed to feel upset-
text & image // YSB
Do NOT feel ashamed to feel upset- sad, confused, or angry. Don’t be ashamed of your tears when you feel the need to cry. (The urge to cry is your body’s way of healing itself naturally-to release stored pain and stress.) I know it’s hard to reject the social constructs that we have been taught to abide by-silly ideas of machismo mentality that “crying equates to weakness” or that feelings of confusion denounce our intelligence. In TRUTH, the ability to effectively access our feelings & the feelings of others is emotional intelligence! I find that the people who discourage feelings/emotions or crying are actually the weakest/the most insecure individuals that end up projecting their repressed emotions onto others and/or within themselves through unhealthy and destructive behaviors. We cannot escape the human condition of who we are--which is being a species that not only thinks, but also *FEELS*---and not only needs food and sleep, but also LOVE and COMMUNITY to survive. I too, have a really hard time trying not beat myself up when I cry. As a person going through ptsd, I have to constantly remind myself to practice compassion, reject the lies that others have told me, & realize that feelings of upset are natural overtime and are part of the healing process. I have to be mindful to surround myself with understanding, supportive people and be careful not to hurt others when I am feeling hurt. Like life, our range of experiences from happiness to sorrow are inevitable. Allow yourself and others to be fully human.
Allow be
yourself to fully human.

“‘Sorrow’ maybe these words speak to you or maybe they don’t. Ironically enough, it seems suitable after yesterday’s presidential election. If the results of last night’s election are poisonous, how can we turn it into medicine? In other words, how can we turn negative outcomes into something positive and constructive? If anything, I believe there’s gonna be some really gnarly/interesting and hopefully transformative art pieces to rise from this occasion. We’re living in a very interesting time, but in that, also very bizarre. I’m actually not very concerned with politics and I can’t say that I’ve been politically invested through this years election, but it has made me more aware and attentive to what’s happening around me. Maybe this is a learning lesson for some, like myself, to be more involved in some way or fashion, to educate myself and what it means for a minority to live here in this placed called America.”

“if your respect for a woman is conditional, then it’s not really respect at all.”
Illustration & words // @fightingforMei If your respect for women is conditional, then it’s not really respect at all. You respect me because I’m a social worker, but would you respect me if I were a sex worker? You respect me when I wear jeans and a cardigan. Would you still respect me if I were naked or bra-less? You respect me as a thin, cisgender, straight Asian woman. Would you still respect me if I were a plus-size, transgender black woman? You respect me when I sit quietly in class taking notes. Would you still respect me if I were to raise my hand and speak my mind? If your answer to any of these is “no,” then you never respected me to begin with. And by respect, I don’t mean special treatment or privileges—but by treating me as a human worthy of dignity, acknowledgment, and existence.
girls you know you betta watch out “Our current zeitgeist is one where men can claim feminism as a principle, but are held to different standards than women in relationships. I think of the way men constantly push women to do things they want in sex and relationships, pushing to see how far they can go by asking with manipulation or, not asking and just waiting for the woman to protest before trying to explain away their breach of boundaries.” From “Confessions of Dating a (so-called) Woke Male Feminist” // Twoey Truong
