MISSION STATEMENT Since 1927, the Yeshivah of Flatbush has stood at the forefront of American Jewish education and has set the standard of excellence emulated by other academic institutions. It has imbued its students with a thirst for knowledge, a commitment to Zionism, a love of the Hebrew language and the dedication to serve the greater Jewish and secular communities. The school’s philosophy is a synthesis of Judaic studies, liberal arts, and extracurricular activities that places great emphasis on the students’ character development. It has evolved into a unique complement of Jewish and American values that focuses on all aspects of education and enables our graduates to meet the challenges of college and life. Well into our ninth decade, we look forward to continuing the traditions of excellence, innovation and leadership that have made us a world-renowned institution.

DEAR CLASS OF 1993 ALUMNI, Congratulations on reaching this monumental milestone - the 25th anniversary of your graduation from the Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School! It was a great pleasure to welcome you back to your Alma Mater and it was wonderful to see so many of you celebrating together again. I graduated law school and practiced law for 10 years. I married a boy I met at Yeshivah of Flatbush in first grade and we have three kids (Ayla, 8; Lev, 6 and Jack, 1), a dog (Morris) and was talked into a hermit crab (Crawler). We moved to Los Angeles in September 2012 and still can't find decent pastrami but Will Ferrell refereed my kid's soccer game, so there's that. And, I still can't manage to take a decent family photo of all 5 of us. . . Maybe by the 50th reunion.

Hello fellow graduates! I really regret that I can't make it to the reunion. I have only fond memories of everyone (although that may be due to suppression ;-)). I especially have fond memories of the circle I used to hang out with most. (I will not elaborate, in order to protect the identity of the innocent). It would be great to hear from any of you, and it would be even greater if you contact me if you're ever in my neighborhood in Lakewood NJ. Wishing you the very best!

After our 4 years together at YOF high school, I continued my studies at NYU and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. After college, I stayed in NYC and began my career at Miramax Films. I then transitioned to fashion where I spent 14 years doing celebrity/VIP publicity and marketing for Prada and TOD’S, before starting my own entertainment marketing and branding consulting business in 2013. I currently live in the West Village and feel fortunate to be surrounded by amazing friends and family. I can’t wait to reunite with all of you!
P.S. I attribute my passion for coffee to the time spent as Rabbi Besser’s ‘barista apprentice’ preparing his daily cup of joe.

I graduated pharmacy school and then went on to law school. After working in pharmaceutical patents for several years, I got married and moved to London for 2 years. It was there that I gave birth to my first child. We then returned to New York where I had 2 more children and stayed home to raise them. We now live in Hewlett, NY and have returned to work but this time working for a pharmaceutical company as a sales representative, affording me the flexibility to be there for my family.

I then moved to Israel for 4 years and went to Medical School at Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv. I am now a Pathologist. I love traveling to Israel, acting, cooking, dancing and reading.
I can't believe its 25 years since we graduated! In some ways it feels like yesterday and in other ways it feels like a lifetime ago.

After high school I went to Israel to study for the year at BMT before going to YU and graduating with a BS in accounting. As it was confusing for most, Cohen was the last name of my stepfather while Rayner is my birth name which I decided to change back to out of respect for my father and desire to carry on the family name. After graduating, I started my career as an auditor at Grant Thornton where I gained the necessary work experience to earn my CPA license. 3 years later, I decided I would rather be more in accounting and financial forecasting than an auditor. It was more interesting for me to create financials than validate historical ones. My first finance job was at American Express. The next 5 years or so was spent as a VP in forecasting and analysis at Citi and a private wholesale company. In 2007, the financial industry in NY was starting to turn and Citi starting letting go and closing down departments, mine being one of them. After a few easy jobs in the industry, I decided that the only job security would be my own and, in 2009, started Rayner CPA. It’s been almost 10 wonderful years of helping small business and individuals with their accounting and taxes and winning money back from Uncle Sam! In December of 2017, I moved to SF, with my pet cats Maggie and Mimi for a change of pace, business opportunity and to expand my existing NY practice in to CA. With love to my class and all the fond memories I had last night, anyone who would like some free advice or to ask anything about the new tax laws that went in to affect this year, can reach out to me to chat.

Since graduation I earned my BA in political science from Stern College. I then moved to Washington DC to work as a staff assistant and presidential advance staff in the Clinton White House. I then returned to New York City where I served as a lead advance for Hillary for Senate 2000. After the campaign I worked in my father’s business for a while. More recently, I have found my roots back at Yeshivah of Flatbush in the capacity of a first grade teacher assistant and assistant to the curriculum director. I cherish this opportunity to reconnect with some of my classmates that I can now call my colleagues. This opportunity also allows me to touch the lives of so many young students at the Yeshivah.

H: 972-58-599-2259 ETIGSONS@GMAIL.COM The summer after high school I got a (short-lived) job as a "psychic friend" and at summer's end went off to college. I attended SUNY Albany, spending my junior year abroad at Hebrew University. In college, I was very happy to leave most of my Jewish education behind, thinking that Judaism couldn't possibly have space for any of my new, universalistic, college world views. After college, I intended on putting my theater minor to good use by waiting tables at night and going on auditions during the day... But after spending the summer backpacking through Europe, I stopped in Israel, had a spiritual experience in a pizza store and decided to seriously explore spirituality, and maybe even religion. The original plan was to head to India, but I decided to first delve into my own roots... and well, I basically found the secret to the deepest way of living a meaningful life... I found spirituality in Judaism--something that I never knew existed. I also discovered that most of the views that I strongly identified with in college were at their core Jewish principles! I then decided to move to Israel after saving a little money working at Morgan Stanley. In Israel, I learned at Matan and Nishmat while continuing on in the investment banking world. I met my husband, Uri Etigson, who encouraged me to go into chinuch (and become poor! BH)...a dream job landed in my lap. Since then, I have been working at several seminaries and have been part of the dynamic process of watching young women's lives transform as they go through the journey of exploring themselves and why they are here... and I feel extremely honored to be a part of their experience. I gain a tremendous amount from them personally! My husband, Uri is a Rav at Lev HaTorah and is a therapist specializing in psychodrama (I tag along on some of the conferences because I am blown away by the type of work that it is). Along the way, BH, Uri and I have been blessed with 5 children: Shimon Matanel- 14, Aryeh Lev- 11, Maayan Emuna- 7, Odelia- 4, Elchai Ro'ey3.5 months. We feel blessed to live in this very special and intense land, which pushes us to live as authentically, and as fully as possible. Would love to see anyone visiting Israel or any of your children spending the year here! Wish I could be at the reunion in person. Sending love and Bracha to all of you! Thank you for being such a positive force in my life.

You never know how people will turn out 25 years later...Following my high school years, I attended BMT in Israel which was a life changing experience for me. I started to think about long term gals and priorities. I attended YU and wanted to further my education with a masters in social work. I worked full time in financial services and attended NYU for my MSW. I really love to give back to the community and actually worked in the guidance department of Flatbush high school for some years. I also worked as a social worker at Sephardic Bikur Holim. I presently work as a Financial Planner, focusing on Life Insurance. I am privileged and honored to be involved with many community organizations. I was the board of education chairman of Barkai Yeshiva. Currently I am the chairman of the board of the Sephardic Community Center, board member of the Sephardic Community Alliance, and board member of Aipac’s Sephardic division. In my spare time I love to run half marathons and stay in shape. With the help of my nutritionist Laura Sasson Shamah I am on a good path. Learning bible is a core value for me and, I published an article in Jewish bible quarterly comparing the stories of Abraham and Bilaam. With the guidance of Rabbi Dr. Ricky Hidary, I am publishing another article comparing Jacob and David. My most important accomplishment was finding my beautiful wife, Rachel. Together we have five wonderful children ranging from age 3 to 18.

I attended NYU School of Social Work for both my undergraduate and graduate degree. I got married to David Chrem and we have three beautiful daughters together; Janet, Barbara and Esther. We moved to New Jersey for ten years and then moved back to Brooklyn when our oldest was ready for high school. We enrolled all three girls in Yeshivah of Flatbush. Janet and Barbara have graduated and are now in college, Esther is in her Junior year of high school. I work as a therapist and continue to pursue other interests. I volunteer for the Yeshivah of Flatbush because educating our youth both inside and outside the classroom is an investment in the future of the Jewish community as a whole. My hope for the future is to remain a student for life!

After graduating from Queens College with a B.A. in Physics and Philosophy, I began working as an English Teacher at an ESL institute, teaching mostly Japanese students and businesspeople, and occasionally entertaining them with impersonations ranging from Trump to George McFly (Back to the Future). I'm presently still teaching there. After a not-so-brief hiatus from the academia, I returned to school relatively recently, graduating from Columbia University in 2016 with a Master's in Physics and Philosophy. My goal is to find work in my field, alongside my current job. Hobbies include writing (mainly poetry and essays) and, yes, impersonations.

C O M I graduated from NYU and stayed there to do a Master’s Degree in molecular biology. Afterwards, I graduated from SUNY Downstate Medical School and did a surgical residency at NYU Medical Center. I followed with a fellowship in vascular surgery at Rutgers-Newark which I competed in 2010. Since then, I have been working as the Vascular Surgery Fellowship program director and vascular surgeon at Staten Island University Hospital. As it turns out the operating room is a good forum for my crazy sense of humor that has remained intact since high school. I live in Short Hills, NJ with my wife, Michelle Neier, who is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist. I have two children: Juliette, 8 and Rebecca, 6. They both attend Golda Och Academy in West Orange, NJ. We are active in our local Jewish community including our school, Jewish National Fund and our shul. Michelle and I both sit on the Board of Trustees and I am the president of the Men’s Club at our shul, Congregation B'Nai Israel. Despite all of our commitments, I still find time for fun. I have started playing electric guitar and spends lots of time (and money) constantly improving my salt water fish tank. After 25 years, I still think back fondly on Yeshivah of Flatbush.

We have two children, Elliot, 13 and Raquel, 10 and a toy poodle named Coco. We lived on the Upper East Side and our kids attended Ramaz until we moved to Los Angeles in 2014. We now live in the Beverlywood neighborhood of LA and our kids attend Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy. Professionally, I’m a commercial real estate lawyer at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner in our Santa Monica office. We miss friends and family in NY but love living on the West Coast. After graduating from Flatbush, I spent a year in Israel at Midreshet Lindenbaum and then graduated from Stern College with a B.A. in English Communications and a double minor in Political Science and Art. While at Stern, I returned to YOF once a week to run the Choir (with the awesome Ruchie Winkler!) After college, I spent an amazing year working as a production associate at CNBC. As I was off on December 25, of course where else would I go but back to Flatbush to watch the choir and Hebrew play?! The only seat left when I arrived was in the second row....right behind Mrs. Winkler's father and his dear friend, both administrators at The Ramaz School. A chance conversation with them led me on a 20-year journey teaching music and running music-related programs at both the Ramaz Lower and Middle Schools. For 12 of those years I was also privileged to head the Ramaz 8th grade Israel Trip. During that time, I also served as a substitute morning deejay on the Jewish music radio station, WFMU JM in the AM. I am now on a new journey teaching music and running the choir at The Frisch School in New Jersey. Working closer to home allows me to be nearer to my family - my amazing husband Ari and my wonderful children, D.J. (David) (16), Charlotte (14), Sam (12), Ellie (9), and Jonah (7.) Last but not least...
Fun Facts: My son D.J. was a soloist in the Yeshiva Boys Choir for a few years and my parents just moved out of Brooklyn this year after 43 years in their house and many more in the blocks surrounding the one and only Avenue J... Good times. Looking forward to celebrating the 50th with all of you!

While we aren’t busy counseling or doctoring we can be found skiing or having adventures around the world with our four amazing daughters ages 11, 14, 16 & 18 (who thankfully all look like Rachel). Our oldest Aida is at Midreshet Lindenbaum/Brovenders and will be studying in Colorado College next year, Hannah is in Flatbush high school, Emma is at the Idea School, and Olivia currently attends Luria Academy. Rachel is also currently running the Blumenthal Scholar’s program in Flatbush high school and designing costumes for the yearly Flatbush Hebrew play and loving it. Ronnie is still causing trouble as a non-conformist in TFCBJ. (Twenty First Century Brooklyn Judaism- a term he coined over 20 years ago in his weekly parasha emails).

When I graduated YOF in 1993 I was planning to go to Israel to stay. Though my year at Bar Ilan was great, pressure from home made it impossible. However, it seems hashkacha pratit finds a way, because, after Israel I attended CUNY Queens college, studied psychology, and met my wife to be, Gila Bell. Gila and I married on July 6, 1998. I completed an MA in Psychology at Long Island University while working at SUNY Downstate doing research in the Psychiatry Department. After finishing my MA, We applied and were both accepted to the Clinical Psychology PhD program at the Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago. When we first moved to Chicago, we lived on the near north side in Lakeview. After 8 years, two children, Adin, born in 2003, and Ozzy born in 2005, two completed PhDs, and one internship at a local VA hospital, where I practiced as part of an interdisciplinary medical team, we moved further north to West Rogers Park (WRP). This was in part to be closer to Gila’s grandparents, but also to be closer to the larger Jewish community. Meish, our third son, was born in 2008, five months after we moved to WRP. After the move, I completed my Post-doctoral fellowship and started teaching undergraduate and graduate psychology courses at various Chicago Universities. Our family was completed in January 2012 with the birth of our daughter Kylie. Though we made our married life in Chicago, we took frequent trips home to New York to visit our families, who until recently lived in NY. Sadly, after a long struggle with COPD my father, Paul Wallach o’hm, was nifter on April 25, 2014. During our time in Chicago, we developed strong and lifelong friendships that we continue to enjoy despite having moved away from Chicago. In August 2016, we fulfilled our lifelong dream of making aliyah, and boarded a Nefesh B’Nefesh flight to Israel. On August 17, 2016 we became citizens of Israel and moved to the beautiful city of Modiin. Since moving to Modi’in, I completed an ulpan and an advanced course in Hebrew of Psychologists. Thanks to our Hebrew teachers in YOF, I felt particularly prepared for this move, and I still speak of the influence Mar Melamed, Mar Raphaeli, and especially Mrs. Haramati have had on my skill and comfort level with Hebrew. Though I certainly have worked to keep advancing my Ivrit since Aliyah, the education I received at YOF certainly helped…I still remember Mrs. Haramti asking us to read the Hebrew newspaper (something I try to do when I have time, and will at least read online between patients). Since Aliyah, we have celebrated another bar mitzvah, made friends, developed strong connections with the community that we are part of, and have had the chance to celebrate in the simchas of many family members that live here. Our children are adjusting nicely, and we are very happy to be living the dream. As an added bonus, my mother came on aliyah soon after us, and lives nearby in Jerusalem. Career-wise, after a brief sabbatical to get our legs under us here, I started practice as a Clinical Psychologist and have been working both in English and in Hebrew. I am currently working as an independent contractor with Maccabi, one of the Kupot Cholim (one of the four main provider in this socialized medicine system). Three days a week I see clients (private or for the kupah) near to where I live in Modiin, one day a week in Efrat in the Maccabi clinic; and once a week also see private clients in Jerusalem.
