CASTLE RESORT March 2017 1000 m² The project was developed fot the international YAC - Castle Resort Competition. The task of the competition was transformation of medieval fortress into an exclusive tourist facility combining an chitecture and nature in order to enhance the historic and natural, landscape value of this dream location in Roccamandolfi, Italy. Our proposal was to create the new volume of the building as a continuation of the existing path that goes from the foot of the mountain to the castle on the top. Conceptually the building = the bridge that connects the visitors with the breathtaking view on the surrounding valley of Molise, opening the panoramic view. The volume of the building is intentionally slim in

order that all the spaces of the hotel have a view on the valley. The buildings is cuted where the floor plan intersect with the trees, so to preserve all the natural heritage of the site. The project strategies: Miscellaneous accommodation types: hostel spaces for trekking lovers and students, hotel with luxury rooms and apartments. Framing the breathtaking view: The castle stands above a steep hill, towering over a cliff, forests and sunsets, framing the view from every space of the hotel. Respect to the nature: the building configuration is designed with holes in order to preserve trees. Correspondence with the context: the design of the new structures allow them to coexist harmoniously with the surrounding architectural and natural heritage. masterplan

Phylosophy of the project Our journey begins in the valley of Molise. It is said that there is a quiet place, which serves as a shelter for tired pilgrims. It is filled with the grandeur of the past centuries. It can tell its long history without words. It inspires awe with its power. The name of this place is the castle Rocamondolfi. Imagine an alien construction that is organically connected with the structure of the previous era. Plexus of old and new, hidden and visible, unapproachable and open. Long and narrow cliff of the building overhangs above the valley, but does not dare to descend into it. All rooms which are located inside, turned out to nature. Being in the room, through the wood and glass of walls, there is feeling of infinity of space above, below, and around you.
1. the new volume is invisible from the foot of the mountain
2. method of refusal and reward: it only appears after you take the path up
3. the perception of the volume changes from different points: the volume opens, is lost in the midst of trees, and reappears again.
3. the view from the valley: the building is only a narrow strip
conceptual schemes: opening of the view on the new volume
rendering: view on the valley from the library
Technical solutions: The building’s width is 4 m. The length varies relatively to the Mountain ledge. The long and narrow cliff of the building hangs over the valley, but does not dare to descend into it. The entrance to the building is provided from the rooftop surface ( = the surface of the bridge). The public spaces such a hall and library are thus pulled to the top. Accomodation spaces are located at the bottom, inbetween the trees. All the inner rooms are turned out to the nature. Being in the room, through the wood and glass, you feel the space above, below, and around. Wood shutters are provided as an energy efficient and traditional solution for the hot Italian climate. CRYSTAL POOL Sept 2019 680 m2 Crystal pool is a public space project design to attract kids and adults alike. It is a temporary installation inspired in the Shanghai summer vibes. The project was commissioned with the objective of supporting the grand opening of Crystal Plaza mix use development complex in Pudong, Shanghai, China. The main installation is an obstacle course - a path composed by multiple playful objects. Its design is conceptualized as water dropping down the big stairs creating a pool in the plaza. Conceptually the water drops solidify becoming seating features with triangular shading structures, transforming the stairs into a tribune toward the Crystal pool: photo of the project

main plaza where the crystal pool is located. At the main plaza, the pool is intercepted by an obstacle course creating many sub areas and activities for the public space. The resulting intervention is rendered as a playscape on the street level, filled with basic geometrical objects such as bubbles and waves to be colonized by kids, besides shaded seating features for adults, plus a funky staircase, turned from just a circulation space into a space to stay, to rest, to lay down and contemplate the urban enclave. PIPE PINHOLE July 2017 70 m2 The competition UNITCity Art Prize asked for the proposal of art-transformation of the industrial facility — the pipe of 60-meters high that is located on the territory of Ukraine’s first innovation park UNIT.City, in Kyiv, Ukraine. The proposal had to combine creative artistic idea and innovative technical solution. Our proposal is a transformation of the pipe into huge pinholecamera, so the whole process of photographing can be accomplished by the visitor inside the space of the pipe. The aperture of the camera is oriented upwards to make a photo of the sky. Conceptually the sky is the only element of ‘virginity’ left in the exstensevely urbanised environment of the city .

Phylosophy of the project Aristotle defines the essence of the art as imitation — µίµησις. Artistic imitation can help people to reflect on the reality, to better understand it. Thus, art is the special form of knowledge and serves the same aim as science, but by different means. — The Philosophy of Aristotle What is the symbol of merge of technology and art? How the photography transform it’s object? Physical size dictates new idea. Now it is pinhole, sixty-meter high pipe-pinhole. Pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens but with a tiny aperture [1]. In its simplest form, the photographic pinhole camera can consist of a lighttight box with a pinhole in one end, and a piece of film or photographic paper wedged or taped into the other end.

Tecnlical solutions Pipe is covered in the top part in order to create absolutely dark space. The aperture of the 10 mm diameter is provided in the top of pipe, the light penetrates through it and projects on the photographic film. Thus we create the photo of the sky. The effect of camera obscura is achieved by changing the diameter of aperture. Camera obscura provides the projection of surrounding environment on the interior walls. Windows are cutted in the upper part of the pipe to make panoramic image of Kiev. The elevator, converted from lift facade is provided to go up. Now everyone can develop the photographic film by himself in the photographic development room. Team: Yevheniia Likhachova, Evgen Chernat, Hanna Chernat, Oleksandr Kolodin, Nataliya Volchinska
