Matthew 12:46-50 • 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” • 48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” 2
Mark 3:31-35 31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.” • 33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. 34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” 3
Luck 8: 19-21. • 19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. • 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” • 21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” 4
Genesis 3:20 • Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living. Genesis 17:16 SARAH • I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. • I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; • kings of peoples will come from her.” 5
What Mothers do? Genesis 27:13 Rebekah • His mother said to him, “My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; go and get them for me.” Genesis 27:14 • So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it. 6
Exodus 20:12 • “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Ephesians 6:1-3 • Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. • 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— • 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” 7
Exodus 21:15 • “Anyone who attacks their father or mother is to be put to death. Matthew 15:4 • For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ 8
Jesus @ 12 Years Luke 2:47-49 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” 49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” 9
Matthew 10:36-39 36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household. 37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it. 10
Luke 14:25-27 The Cost of Being a Disciple 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life— such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. 11
Reward Matthew 19:29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
Mark 10:28-30 28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!” 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions— 12 and in the age to come eternal life.
The Greatest Commandment Matthew 22 34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” 13
Law is for.. 1 Timothy 1:8-10 8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine

Widows, Elders and Slaves 1 Timothy 5:1-3 Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. 3 Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. 15
