MODULE THREE: FABRICATION YUCHEN YE Semester 1, 2013 Virtual Environment
Module 3 Fabrication
IDEATION & DESIGN REVIEW Module 1 we focused on exploring nature patterns and I was interested in this small plant and how its leaves spread out. I found the interesting movement the leaves have and I tried to show the movement in my design
IDEATION & DESIGN REVIEW
Then we focused on clay modeling and digital modeling. I attempt to design a lantern that has this shape which illustrate the movement of the original nature patern, and I tried to explore more around the light effect similar to the stems of leaves using extruded light. The reason I chose extruded light is because I love the effect it creates and also extruded patterns could build up the shape of my lantern similar to the stems.

UNROLLING SURFACES AND CUTTING PROCESS
Group patterns in strips, numbered and unroll them. Arranged into 6 pages with blak and white. I used dashed lines for fold lines as my pattern is complex.
MATERIAL USED
Cutting mat Cut out the cardboard on cutting mat to provent table been damaged.
3V Whight LED lights
Art knife Cut out the score lines on the cardboard which provent patterns from falling off. Better then using scissors.
Tape To stable the wires and hide them. Also used to stick patterns together
PVA Glue and swab To glue stick the paper together. Using swab to make the process clean and easy.
3V Buttom cells
Clips To hold the sticked place to make them stable while the glue is not strong yet. Also used in some tricky angle where hands can not reach.
Making Process
Making Process
Stick 3 parts together It does took a while because the shape makes it resilient and hard to bend it when I try to connect them all together.
