Lights around the world flickered off last Saturday without the usual accompanying hubbub of governments and corporate spouting platitudes about sustainability and protection, yet the largely symbolic act wasn’t shunned by governments struggling with their own healthcare crises. As millions joined each other to turn off their lights, this is a reminder that sustainability remains a grassroots process, a force which can only be contended with the support of the collective. At the heart of this is the individual, the catalysts for the change that we all seek. Ours is a generation which begins to realise the damage we impart on the planet around us; the next step is to mobilise and unite our world to protect the planet.
