FOUNDED IN 1997, THE GLOBAL FESTIVAL FOR PEACE DEAR EARTHDANCERS, Welcome to the Earthdance Peace Festival 2011. We are excited to bring the magic of Earthdance to our new location at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, located within easy reach of the Bay area and beyond. After 10 wonderful years of producing the festival at the Black Oak Ranch in Mendocino, we now look forward to sharing the positive message of Earthdance to a wider audience. With 6 stages of entertainment, fantastic late night venues, great onsite camping, workshops and speakers, an expanded kids village, organic food and wines, and much more, Earthdance 2011 promises to be an amazing weekend of music, peace and positivity. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Solano County Fairgrounds and the Mariott Vallejo Hotel for all their support. Special thanks also to our production crews, artists, vendors and patrons. We look forward to a wonderful weekend. !!

Chris Deckker Founder, Earthdance International

has grown to become the world’s largest simultaneous music and dance event. Our goal is to inspire promoters, artists, musicians and peace lovers, to dedicate one day in support of world peace and humanitarian aims. The event truly captures the spirit of “act local, think global”, with each promoter donating funds to local and international non-profits. There are no conditions as to how large or small each event might be. Each promoter creates an event at whatever level they choose. Earthdance 2011 will unite over 340 locations in 65 countries, with events ranging from family lounge rooms to 3 day, multi-stage events. The defining moment of Earthdance is a synchronized dance floor link up when a specially created track, “The Prayer for Peace”, is played in every location at exactly the same time, creating a powerful moment of global unity

SYNCHRONIZED LINK UP WITH OVER 350 CITIES IN 60 COUNTRIES The highlight of the Earthdance International event is a synchronized dance floor link-up, with the specially-created song, “The Prayer For Peace,” which has been translated into several different languages. This track is played at every event across the world, at exactly the same time: morning in Australia, sunrise over the Himalayas, midnight in London, afternoon in California. “We are one global family All colors, all races, one world united. We dance for peace and the healing of our planet Earth. Peace for all nations. Peace for our communities. And peace within ourselves. As we join all dance floors across the world, let us connect heart to heart. Through our diversity we recognize Unity. Through our compassion we recognize Peace. Our love is the power to transform our world Let us send it out... NOW...”

Here are just a few of the amazing artists who will be performing this year! ZIGGY MARLEY

BEATS ANTIQUE

TIPPER

TREVOR HALL

A five-time Grammy-winning musician, actor, artist, activist and humanitarian, Ziggy Marley has firmly established his presence on the public stage for over a quarter-century. Which is why, perhaps, there’s a wisp of irony in naming his upcoming album Wild and Free, his fourth solo studio album and his most political and personal to date. Set for release on June 14th 2011, Wild and Free was produced with friend and collaborator Don Was at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood, CA as w ell as Marley’s own studio. Embracing both the spiritual and emotional side of life, Ziggy has definitively come into his own as an artist.

Growing like wildfire under the canopy of live electonica and world roots music comes Beats Antique, a masterful merge of modern technology, live instrumentation and seductive performance. The group combines the sounds of the Middle East with the styles of hip-hop, brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep in a new collage of music that is mixed and broken down with clever breakbeats for an adept international flair.

Tipper creates music for the finest sound systems; bass-fueled glitch that demands to be played at high volumes to unleash its lethal potential. With influences ranging from drum and bass, to trip- hop through downtempo electronica, Tipper has created his own eclectic brand of devastating dance-floor tracks that have been admired for being “streaks ahead” and “expertly crafted” productions, while being “frightening yet refreshing.

A mix of reggae, folk and rootsrock, all blended with a sharp pop sensibility, the music of Trevor Hall lives somewhere between the anthemic grooves of Matisyahu and the gentle melodies of Jack Johnson. Embodying a soufulness, depth and passion far beyond his 22 years. His youthful exterior belies the depth and intensity of an old soul. Trevor’s music is an unconventional mix of acoustic rock and reggae that serves as a vibrant landscape for his thought-provoking, inspiring lyrics.

(MAIN STAGE SATURDAY NIGHT)

GHOSTLAND OBSERVATORY (MAIN STAGE SUNDAY NIGHT)

Ghostland Observatory’s entire approach to music is essentially a melding of the two distinctly different personalities of its two members, Thomas Ross Turner and Aaron Behrens. Whereas Turner, the producer/drummer/keyboardist of the duo, finds solace in the minimal, bleak cablepatch squawks of Karlheinz Stockhausen and the analog-disco-thump of Giorgio Moroder, Behrens’ interests lie more along the lines of psychedelia, rock and various country and blues artists. The result is a shimmering, pulsing pop music that is at once kinetically alive with Behrens’striking vocals and driving guitar work, but also anchored firmly by Turner’s percussive beats and Moog-generated melodies and hooks.

BRETT DENNEN (MAIN STAGE SUNDAY)

“Real” is an apt word to describe the visually captivating performer whose smooth sound is in stark contrast to his persona. With long red hair, trademark headband and guitar held high on his frame, Brett appears an unlikely front man who nonetheless radiates confidence and ease in his own skin. Having toured with performers such as John Mayer, the John Butler Trio, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Ben Folds, Dennen has become a headliner in his own right.

BALKAN BEAT BOX Balkan Beat Box was formed in 2004 by Ori Kaplan, former member of Gogol Bordello, and Tamir Muskat, producer of J.U.F.’s “Gogol Bordello vs. Tamir Muskat” and drummer for Firewater and Big Lazy. Balkan Beat Box blends electronic music with hardedged folk music from North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans and Eastern Europe.

IVAN NEVILLE’S DUMPSTAPHUNK (MAIN STAGE SUNDAY AND UNITY STAGE LATE NIGHT SATURDAY)

Founders Ivan Neville and Ian Neville (sons of both Aaron Neville and Art Neville respectively), along with Nick Daniels, Tony Hall, and Raymond Weber, were brought up in an atmosphere of sounds that have arguably become the most defining in all of New Orleans music. But don’t let the pedigree of lineage from the Meters and Neville Brothers fool you either. Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk now stands on its own as the legitimate torchbearer of all things funky both in New Orleans and beyond.

(UNITY STAGE FRIDAY LATE NIGHT)

THE COUP

(MAIN STAGE FRIDAY NIGHT) The Coup are one of the most overtly political bands in the history of Rap. Formed in the early ‘90s, the Coup were influenced by the rhetoric power of “conscious” rappers like Public Enemy and KRS-One. Lead rapper/producer Boots was involved in political activism long before he was a musician and his fervent dedication to social change has been the overriding influence on every Coup album.

EOTO

(UNITY STAGE FRIDAY NIGHT)

Jason Hann and Michael Travis (percussionist and drummer from the band The String Cheese Incident) make up this 100% improvised live Breakbeat/ House/ Drum n Bass/ Trip Hop project. Drawing from the ethos of some of the great DJ’s and computer artists of the world, they use cutting edge technology to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment, with the undeniable power of live drums. The music is all created on the spot, recorded, then mixed and remixed LIVE to create an ever evolving musical experience.

KARSH KALE

(UNITY STAGE FRIDAY)

Described by Billboard Magazine as a “visionary composer and producer”, Karsh Kale is one of global music’s brightest stars. In the past 12 years as a solo recording artist, producer, composer, live performer and DJ, Karsh has set the world of electronic fusion on fire and has helped to create a genre of new music and culture that continues to influence an entire generation.

(TEMPLE OF ELECTRONICA SATURDAY LATE NIGHT)

SEE-I FROM THIEVERY CORPORATION SEAN HAYES (UNITY STAGE SATURDAY LATE NIGHT) See-I’s unique blend of classic roots reggae with a good blend of funk and soul has rocked dance floors from coast to coast and has helped define the live sound of Thievery Corporation since the beginning. The deep experiences & influences of this 8 piece group have created a popular sound which is gathering momentum across the USA.

MIMOSA

(TEMPLE FRIDAY LATE NIGHT) MiMOSA takes the listener on a space age psychedelic journey of bittersweet ecstasy. Only a two year veteran of the west coast sound movement, MiMOSA is quickly making a name for himself as one of the top west coast exports.

MIDNITE

(UNITY STAGE SUNDAY) Armed with a firm foundation in Jah Rastafari and a strong, uncompromising musical vision, St Croix-based reggae act Midnite champions a sound that is on the cutting edge of modern roots music. Midnite’s live performances, which often exceed three hours, have won them a legion of fans among the reggae community worldwide.

ROOTZ UNDERGROUND (MAIN STAGE SATURDAY) The Rootz Underground revolution emerged on the scene in a blaze of high-energy performances and conscious lyrics. Their music is a refreshing mix of conscious lyrics, and a harmonic alternative reggae sound that marries their intellectual, spiritual and creative energies.

LES NUBIANS

FAUN

Grammy Nominated international recording artists Les Nubians have intrigued audiences for over a decade with their inventive and glamorous Afropean style. This distinctive sound embodies the timeless vibrations of Miriam Makeba, Ella Fitzgerald, Doudou N’diaye Rose, Fela Kuti, Edith Piaf, The Fugees, and Soul II Soul. Recognized for their colorful auras, Les Nubians’ vogue is a fusion of Funkin’ Fashion and Modern Amazon.

Faun is a German pagan folk band that incorporates medieval instruments and themes along with contemporary electronic music. Founded in 2002 in Munich, the band weaves haunting vocals with ancient and traditional instruments including the Hurdy Gurdy, nyckelharpa, Celtic Harps, rebab and bagpipes with modern samplers, computers and synthesizers. The resulting sound is both mesmerizing and deeply evocative.

(MAIN STAGE SUNDAY)

(MAIN STAGE SATURDAY)

(MAIN STAGE SATURDAY)

(MAIN STAGE SUNDAY)

Sean Hayes’ old-time, folk roots still show through at times, but now they’re brushing up against a soul vibe that simmers slowly to a boil on his latest release, Run Wolves Run. Over the last decade, his six full-length albums reveal this evolution of sound. Poetic, sensual and surreal, the lyrics are equal part to the rhythm, beat and melody.

VAGABOND OPERA (UNITY STAGE SUNDAY)

Based in the Pacific Northwest, yet encompassing the world, Vagabond Opera delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret. Paris hot Jazz, gut bucket swing, Tangos, Ukrainian folk-punk ballads, Klezmer and vigorous originals meet a world of riverboat gambling queens, Turkish belly dancers, and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. Vagabond Opera presents the new wave of opera--lusty (trained) voices singing in 15 languages and presenting a cabaret of rich musical phrasing, sparkling lyrics and indomitable stage presence, all played with exuberance, skill and a gritty Vagabond edge.

HONEYMOON

(MAIN STAGE SATURDAY)

Honeymoon has a wondrous Folk/Americana sound with Appalachian-stylings. There is quite a legit buzz brewing on the honeymoon front, much of it thanks to their angelic 4-part female harmonies. They have been touring with Jackie Greene and Truth & Salvage Company this year, plus 2010 shows with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Ray Lamontagne, Joan Osborne, and The Mother Hips.

FANNA- FI - ALLAH QAWWALI ENSEMBLE

(LOTUS SANCTUARY SATURDAY LATE NIGHT) Qawwali has evolved into an amazingly immense art form spanning over hundreds of years of poets, languages & musical evolutions. The aspiration of Fanna-Fi-Allah is to bring the magic of Pakistan to the west, by properly receiving this time honoured tradition from the grand masters.
