What is the Plant Guarantee Scheme?

The Garden Centre Association’s Plant Guarantee Scheme represents the GCA’s core belief that you should be confident when purchasing plants at any member Garden Centre.

The Plant Guarantee Scheme ensures you can have complete faith in the quality of the product and the service that you have received. Any hardy plant that fails to grow, provided it has received a reasonable level of care and is returned to the garden centre within a maximum of one year of purchase, will be replaced, no questions asked!

Here at Langlands, we are so confident that our trees, shrubs, and hardy plants meet the highest standards of health and quality that we have chosen to extend the GCA’s Guarantee period to 2 years. This ensures that you can be confident of receiving the best possible quality and service.

No small print! No exclusions! No questions! No-fuss!

“The Potting Shed” A Free Community Project created for children to come on site at anytime and have a little corner to learn and grow flowers, plants or vegetables and take them home to care for. We also have lots of interesting wildlife information sheets for children to take with them!

This is “Our Claire”. She is very much involved in the “Bradfield in Bloom” project, which we do every year, including 42 lamp post baskets. The Bradfield in Bloom group is run by volunteers and undertakes projects throughout Bradfield, some major projects as well as general tidying.

My life in the garden I live with my husband, & 2 cat’s Daisy and Freddie.

Growing Up

I’m Sheffield born and bred. I love the city as it’s a great mix of city life with amazing parks and countryside on the doorstep. From being very young I’ve always spent time in the garden with my parents growing plants, vegetables and fruit. My Mum used to get a bit miffed with me at harvesting time as I tended to eat more produce than I harvested, especially the strawberries!!

The garden at home is very much mine unless I need any digging doing, that’s my Husband’s job as I don’t like worms!! I know worms are good for your garden but they’re just too wriggley.

Initially, I had a grand garden design with colour schemes texture and tones but that lasted about 3mths as I’m a serial plant buyer and if I see a plant I like I tend to get it and then wonder where to put it? So the garden is just a riot of every plant that’s caught my eye. I’m particularly partial to roses my favourite is an old variety of roses called Blue Moon. The colour is more lilac than blue but its scent is amazing. I love visiting rose gardens and seeing the planting schemes. I’m always on the lookout for a new variety.

Over the last few years, I’ve been adding more Mediterranean and tropical plants to my garden with varying degrees of success.

I don’t really have a favourite season, as there’s always something to marvel at in the garden whatever time of year it is, but if I had to pick it would be early Springtime when snowdrops & winter aconite flowering, and you can get the beautifully scented Sarcococca. Then look a little closer to the ground and you’ll see the tips of all the spring bulbs pushing their way through the undergrowth waiting to burst into flower. If that doesn’t make your heart sing I don’t know what will. Although, I do love Christmas but that’s more to do with the twinkly lights and mince pies.

I’ve worked at the garden centre for 17 years. Initially joining the company as a seasonal garden centre assistant over the summer after taking voluntary redundancy from a previous employer.

News

A big congratulations to our colleague Zoe on passing her RHS level 2 exams recently.

She joined us in June 2022 and can be seen running amongst the plants showing them lots of love, spreading cheer and helping as many people as she can, to do all this even better she has decided to develop her skills further. RHS Level 2 is said to be the equivalent of a GCSE, and it does feel like a GCSE Biology for Plants.

Langlands, Loxley is a lovely place to work with a fantastic team of people, each with their own specialties & personalities. We all get on really well, supporting each other and sharing a joke or two!

Over the years I’ve developed a love of container gardening especially, hanging baskets and planted arrangements. I enjoyed creating bespoke containers layering bulbs and seeds under the top layer of plants to create a longlasting display. I also work closely with local communities & businesses planting up their outdoor arrangements.

I like to try different ideas for planting containers and have been promoting growing fruit and vegetables in containers using dwarf fruit trees, strawberries, tomatoes, onions and herbs ECT. I enjoy helping our customers who only have small patio gardens or balconies providing advice and help to keep their crops healthy and produce a good yield.
