The Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) was founded in 1902 to preserve the legacy of Nantucket native astronomer, naturalist, librarian, and educator, Maria Mitchell who believed in “learning by doing.” The MMA operates 2 observatories, a natural science museum, an aquarium, and preserves the historic birthplace of Maria Mitchell. A wide variety of science and history-related programming is offered through the year for people of all ages.

Discover Nantucket’s unwavering human spirit: The NANTUCKET SHIPWRECK & LIFESAVING MUSEUM is devoted to the history of Nantucket lifesaving, famous shipwrecks and rescues around the island, life-saving equipment, daily routine at life-saving stations, and the United States Coast Guard. Family-friendly programs & displays appeal to all ages. The Museum shares the fascinating stories through permanent and changing interpretive exhibits, drawing on a collection of over 5,000 objects including period surfboats, beach carts, Fresnel lenses from Brant Point & Great Point lights, vintage photographs, short movies and more. THE NANTUCKET GARDEN CLUB’s 67th annual House Tour, “Summer on Orange,“ takes place on Wednesday, August 2. Visit 5 beautiful homes and 4 lovely gardens on Orange Street. Advance tickets are $70 and are available at nantucketgardenclub.org. In person advance tickets for $70 may be purchased on July 22nd, July 29th, and August 1st on Main St. and at the Sconset rotary. Additionally, tickets may be purchased the day of the tour for $75 at most featured homes.
