THE FINAL MAJOR PROJECT
LIFE OF AUTONOMOUS
How does the autonomous car reshape our future lives? How do our lives in the future change the way we transport? Needless to say, the autonomous driving technology is an emerging trend in transportation. The change is not only happening in car manufacturing alone, but in the transportation system, the urban planning, the architecture and so many more areas. What will the autonomous car look like in the ‘post-

driving’ age? To answer this question we need to investigate the future lifestyle of city dwellers. Cities are expanding. People will spend more time on commuting. There is also an emerging trend of working in flexible places for future people. Therefore, cars will become an important extension of future life. Many tasks will be done in cars, and people can even sleep in cars overnight for a long business trip; The cars will have their own characters,

and be good companies with you. People may also prefer to share one car with several friends instead of purchasing one on your own. Here, I present 'Happie', the google self-driving car, aiming at the future city mobile lifestyle.

Could car be a better friend than just a tool? It’s hard to believe the car intelligent enough to drive itself is not capable to make the user feel closer. Friendly, caring, comfortable, it should be nice to drive or ride the autonomous car.
Could car be a better place to relax or sleep? Today’s car interior is focusing, trying to awake you and concentrate you on driving. And the other passenger should follow this. With the Autonomous technology, people can feel free to sleep in there cars. Perfect for the future flexi-work scenario, when people have to travel to other working places over night.
Car-sharing Scenario
When sharing 'Happie' with others, the customer will use their own interior 'cushions' for the trip. The 'cushions' are also a part of the owner's house, thus creating a familiar and comfortable feeling in the sharing car interior.

A Little More
JAPAN
in Shinkansen? Some say, sometimes it's the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination. I want the passsengers from home and aboard will both experence more about the japanese culture and lifestyle during the trip on Shinkansen, one of the most significant transportation methods in Japan. Divided not only by the levels of luxury, the travel classes of this new Shinkansen interior is designed by the various functions and passenger groups using the interior. I want it to be an extravaganza of Japanese culture.
As the first one to introduce, the 'Wave' Class can be regarded as the standard class. The study of ergonomics allows me to use the space under the bending legs to create a 2-deck interior in train. By this arrangement, each cargo will increase 50% capacity. The using of space can acturally create more area for individuals to make the journey more comfortable.
It's not very easy to go up and down, but the Tokaido trip usually takes only 3 hours. So for the working commuters, students and young travelers, this could be an excellent choice to save money and experience a comfortable and different journey.
In Japanese culture, stones have many symbolic meanings: A token of fortune, a dwelling for spirits or a ritual instrument of meditation... That's why I take the cobblestones as the inspiration of this class. The 'Cobbles' class can be a premium class on the train. The inspiration brings the spiritual and Zenic atmosphere into the interior. In this class, I especially use more Japanese design elements to illustrate the 'culture of premium'. Cobbles are used in many traditional treatments to some illness. The 'Cobbles' class provides healthcare devices in the seat for passengers to use. The layout of the seats mimics the cobble along the bank of the river. The size of the seats is different, for passengers with different sizes.
There is always a dining car in a train. In my opinion, this area is far more important than a resturant alone. People in trains need public space to stretch, to social and to relax. The 'Woods' class is a special designed car with extra-headroom. The pillar structures strengthen the car, make it possible for bigger window size.
Tatami is a traditional Japanese farmer's house interior element. By arranging the size of 'Tatami', the special straw mat, the interior of the house can be varied. Using this idea, I create this 'Farmland' class for families and group travelers. People can share the space as they want.
The corrador mimics the road to the Japanese temple. The road is not straight forward, which gives walkers a hesitation to stop, turn and think.
But Why the 'Wave', the 'Cobble', the 'Woods' and the 'Farmland'? Is there any meaning within these names and logos? Japanese loves logos and identities. Unlike China, Japan has so many family logos, badges and patterns through out history. Also they love the implication. Waves on the lakes, stones on the shores, forests around the region and the farmlands on the open ground, these elements together paint a picture of the scenery of the Fuji mountain, which is a significant landscape in the Tokaido railway trip.
Energy is invisible. But the products and the methods to use the energy is not. For example the Dyson fan is a good example to make use of new technology to creat brand new design language. As a fast moving object, the car can take advantage of using the wind power. Thus the wind power and Fluid mechanics becomes my inspiration.
W
hen the car runs, the air is taken in. The energy could be recycled for electric devices in the car.
WHALE IMPRESSION~
The concept of 'Energy' is not about saving it alone. Cutting down useless functions, minimizing the IP and creating short-cuts to essy control is also important to save driver's energy and bring enjoyment to driving
