Food is the research engine of the studio. The studio is arranged by two tasks. The first one is about researching the food from different scales politically, logically, and technologically. Coming up with the question about culinary formalism, performance, and topography, the goal is to interrogate the boundary between food and architecture. Then, a laboratory for taste will be invented as a new architecture. Instead of solving a problem by
an architectural method, it is an opportunity to raise the question about the possibility of the space of our domesticity. I propose, the place, juxtaposing the concept of spectacular, transforms the typical domestic kitchen into an urban scale.

02 Artist Community
- New type of the artist work/live community Columbia GSAPP AAD Studio Spring 2015 Site: Paris, France Instructor: Lise Anne Couture Individual Work The project of creating a new type of artist accommodate aims to challenge the current situation of public/private residence, providing a different interpretation of artist living. I design the community by emphasizing on the relationship between public and different types of artists. The various spaces are intertwined to each other, creating the confused spatial situation intentionally. I mix the public and artist spaces from inside to outside to create unique and unexpected conditions for the insertion of site specific art and to engage with the adjoining public space.

03 Working Space - Painting Analysis - Pavilion Design - Bridge Design Columbia GSAPP AAD Studio Fall 2014 Site: New York City, NY Instructor: Michael Bell Individual Work
Yichen Wang Work Sample Phone Number: (405)637-9906 E-Mail: yichenwang14@gmail.com
Instead of researching site, program, or context, the studio attempts to seek the turning point of architecture. It is started from studying the “working space“ in a painting to translating the space to the architectural language. In order to create a pictorial space in the painting Supper at Emmaus by Caravaggio, I concentrate on creases in clothing. Those
creases indicate the four figures’ diverse motions and expressions. I use the various movements and tendencies to create four spacial experiences in the Central Park’s pavilion. Then, I utilize the unique language to propose a reply to the pedestrian bridge, which is connected to the seven train station and the Flashing park. The different spacial qualities and the in-between spaces are both crucial for the project.

- Ara Pacis Museum Design University of Oklahoma Rome Studio Spring 2013 Site: Rome, Italy Instructor: Catherine Barrett Individual Work The studio is about re-visioning an enclosure of the Ara Pacis Monument at the central Rome. The history of the monument and the human behaviors are the main focuses for the project. The challenge of the designing process is negotiating the relationship between the public plaza and the museum. Rethinking the programmatic design and materiality are the goals to achieve.

- National Weather Museum Design University of Oklahoma Studio Spring 2011 Site: Norman, OK Instructor: Stephanie Pilat Individual Work The project is about designing an iconic weather museum in Norman. Weather is the first and most basic motivation for building shelter; however, buildings are undermining people’s desire to get close to the nature. The desire of creating several layers of spaces for people to observe weather is the studio’s design concept. I focus on the initial idea development and spacial experience analysis. Design Process

ART AS PACEMAKER
ART AS PACEMAKER
New York graffiti mecca in Queen - “Five Pointz will be replaced with a high rise condo and a luxury shopping mall. The creative individuals are having difficulties surviving, and the city is losing the original invigorating energy. The scenario is questioning the quality and the value of the city.
The studio will visit the KW Institute for Contemporary art in Berlin and the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris. The two cities contain the various qualities, but both invigorate public spaces with strong identities.
The studio is proposing a new types of the artist work/live communities. Unlike a conventional art institute or SOHO, the project is inspired by art studios on the 91st and 92nd floors of the former World Trade Center. The new arts neighborhood will works as a pacemaker for the community and the city.
