The world we see is claimed to be a partial experience of our perception, while some philosophists are suggested that the actual reality is composed of both the physical world and the cognitive subconscious beneath our mind. This statement made me yearn to explore what place/space is recognised as in the moment. A place is not only identified by its literal name, but people interpret it through their own experiences and even memories. Therefore, I want to analyze the study of dreams, one of the elements that connect the physical world and perceptual experience, to decipher how the complete world works.

THESIS DESIGN 1

Then, starting with the psychologist's definition and analysis, construct a process that moves the study of dreams from academic research to spatial manipulation, dividing dream work into several properties, five attributes defined by Sigmund Freud, and structural linguistics for the study of dreams initiated by Lacan. Several artworks in different fields observed through the above method, some of the same patterns and structures can be found and transformed into formula models as prototypes for spatial research, which are then input into selected locations to represent a complete spatial architectural experience.

All models presented diverse characteristics of dreams subjectively, with my initial perception and cognition, no matter the paintings or letters under inspection. Following the phase of site observation, some abstract figures blending with the surrounding residences, the conceptual building is a layered and connecting element between the existing community and the natural environment.

The act of reading explains the principle of a dream because of the relationship between the book itself and the reader; there are many similar fragment memories and reorganization operations. In addition, the text on the page is the carrier of the plot. From this, readers can absorb fragmentary stories and pictures and create emotional resonance with the reading space environment in which they are located. Moreover, not only can this emotion be very personal, but people can receive the same feelings in the process of communicating with people. Because of this, our imaginations collide with people from different places, forming shared memories that exist only in one place.

Liming New Village was built when the Taiwan Provincial Government introduced Western Urban Planning to Taichung City in 1975. The living functions of the community are complete, as we can see the streets are planned in a chessboard shape, and green spaces are set up to beautify every 50-60 meters.

As a closed area, these residents could be the right people to highlight different behaviour patterns in different locations, of which four sites were chosen - from the most private areas of residents to the community boundaries: narrow alleys(4 meters wide) provide an intimate interaction for residents living on either side; an exquisite park centered on the residence is the core of further activities; traditional markets and vendors along the main road elevate the community to a large parade and crowd gatherings; the last site is located on the fringes of the whole community connected with nature that one can inadvertently glance at the boundaries of isolation.

The east-west central axis leads directly to the center of Taichung, through the central market and community centers, then extends to the fields on the west side.

Taichung City has its historical context, including early road systems and infrastructure. Decades later, population growth led to suburban chaos due to a lack of government planning for urban design. In recent years, with the comprehensive review by the government and the promotion of the public, there are opportunities for land use to be rezoned and defined, to increase the proportion of green space, and to beautify water bodies. More importantly, how to reduce the density of residential buildings and increase the public activity space to realize the communication between man and nature and between man and nature. This concept prompted me to propose possible designs to illustrate my ideas on an urban scale.

URBAN STRATEGIES 11

SITE CHOSEN

From the macroscopic observation of the texture of Taichung City, it is evident that the radial road from the old city center to the development area of the new town is located along the road with different functional spaces in different periods, trying to drive regional activities.

A series of proposals have been implemented to promote green space conservation and development in recent decades due to the urbanization in the city, including parks in central area, green belt around Ring Road and protection of surrounding mountains.

Intersections of main roads and train stations (including metro system), gradually spread from the heart region to new developed outreach traffic system aiming to release the congestion in old district by turning it to a pedestrain oriented space, and creating new communities on outter districts.

The site is located on the south side of Fine Arts Park, covering four residential blocks. Green belts aside in the urban plan extend to the Liuchuan River below, forming an intersection of green space and water bodies. Commercial activities constantly infiltrate the surrounding residential area, and the crowded environment prompts residents to seek heterogeneous use - community centers and sightseeing services. The community could have new value and uses: from pure residence to civic amenities, regional park to public theatre and commercial area. The so-called "city community" combines multiple functions to help cities create a sustainable future.

Baghere village is a relatively minor community in Senegal; by that time, consistent starvation and lack of medical care occurred most of the day. Aiming to resolve malnutrition and food security with a proper and realistic solution, we thought the "children's house" would rely more on its pure treatment services and educational function. In addition to those physical facilities, our view in spacial design is building itself might be a symbolic space to deal with the interaction between children and the whole community, and the awareness of health concerns would rise subsequently.

COMPETITION PROPOSAL 16

In addition to the requirements, this focuses on providing a comfortable and helpful space concerning the local climate. Outdoor play is divided into the main entrance close to the road and the backside plaza. Public and private hierarchy is created with spatial sequence instead of rigid architectural components such as doors or windows. Inside this building, a central corridor indicates the medical treatment sequence and links administration programs in the southeast to the kid's zone in the west-north.

For spatial layout staggered with solids and voids, large openings on the facades, as a result of arranging the four volumes of solid and void space under the roof alternately, builds the extension from the indoor to the outdoor. This works as a solution to the ventilation and heat detention and creates visual communication. Traditional knit and colorful fabric marks the boundary between programs and delivers the local spatial memory. This relieves the enclosure and insecurity feeling for children doing medical checks here and provides a hospitality image as well.

Turnkey Construction

The original Taipei Fine Art Museum(TFAM) has launched in 1983, providing various high-quality exhibitions and collections by the 1990s. Since the insufficiency of exhibition areas for different scales of artworks, new genres of art, and research spaces for the future propaganda and preservation of art, its expansion had been eagerly expected by the art society. The new building provides venues for contemporary art that applies new media, new technology, and live arts, as well as research and outreach, among other interdisciplinary/ hybrid types of arts. It will incubate innovative arts and be a hub of art education for future generations.

PROJECT AT WORK I 21
TFAM orginated in 1983

The site is south of the existing museum building, the former venue of the Flora Expo. The new facility will be two floors underground and one floor above ground. The TFAM's art complex consists of the existing building, the new building, and the new collections vault. The goal of the master plan is to integrate architecture into the natural landscape. The ground floor yields to park and greenery by creating the primary structure underground, providing the public with multiple choices of visiting and experiencing the space.

The idea of a "museum in the woods" is to bring art into the domains of nature and create a green space that serves as an art venue, a public forum, and a recreational place for the public. Moreover, the ground is divided into biodiverse and contemporary art areas, gently connected by the main loop. Thus, outdoor events such as X-site exhibitions and biennials will become more hospitable for citizens or visitors.

Two-thirds of the building is submerged underground, releasing more of the landscape to the surface. In addition to satisfying the massive demand of TFAM, since the central atrium and the visiting circulation are in the basement, we wanted to infuse natural elements through the image of the dug valley. The only volume floating above the surface is the main exhibition space (white box), trying to be the highlight on the hill and hinting at the contemporary art space below.

"Underground building is no longer underground"; the enclosed external space, exhibitions, visiting routes, shops, and lecture spaces, are all adjacent to the glass curtain wall surrounding the sunken courtyard.

It is generally a public park that every citizen can visit and is also an aesthetic place where people live. Therefore, in addition to budgetary considerations, our aesthetic design also incorporates supporting commercial space.

The sunken atrium as a theater set back from the entrance releases more open space to host various activities for public participation, and the solid wall for hanging info facing the entrance staircase also increases visibility.

Tainan city is located in the sub-tropical region, close to the Tropic of Cancer. Thus, the client chose to build his residence made of wood instead of concrete due to the efficient thermal resistance. Apart from the physical reason, wooden houses are considered a more literary expression and aesthetic representation.

The clients' brief requested an exquisite, functional home with a flexible floor plan for living, dining, and hosting space. Our proposal for the house that balances fluidity and solidity with raw materials inspired the interior palette of concrete, steel, and wood. On the ground floor, with the east-west axis of the rectangular volume, a defined corridor connects the porch with the living room, passing the staircase and the open kitchen. By creating a maximum number of casement windows, interior spaces are enlivened by ample daylight and the lush garden landscape.

Up a CLT staircase near the kitchen is four kids' bedrooms and the main suite. In order to defuse the compact atmosphere, the entire south wall is slightly tilted forward to expand the upper width of each unit. In addition, metal-structured balconies are suspended to form a secondary façade from the interior space to the exterior landscape.
