01 LIVE WITH NATURE Ecological Park Design AlongThe Huangpu River Location: Shanghai, China Instructor: Hongfei Ji Individual Project 2020.11 - 2021.01
The Huangpu River winds around and runs through the entire city of Shanghai, affecting all aspects of the lives of residents around the coast. In the entire 21-kilometer-long Xuhui Riverside, there is not much green space on the bank that has been developed, and there are man-made hard green parks. There is a green space next to Qiantan Park, which is the only land with the potential to develop a natural ecological park along the coast of 21 kilometers. The Huangpu River turned a bend here, and a lot of sediment was deposited at the corner. The huge impact of the river washes its banks, which brings me to the direction of thinking: how to use such natural conditions and intervene as little as possible to build a natural ecological park that can be close to the water body? After fully investigating the site, I decided to open a whole dam that closed the shoreline to allow the river to flow into the site and use the impact of the river water to wash out the form of the park. The sand impact test is used to simulate this scouring process as an example to guide the formation of the park. I have selected three impact forms, corresponding to three different use functions, and strive to fully reflect the previous design intent.
THIS SITE IS THE ONLY PLACE IN THE ENTIRE 21-KILOMETERLONG XUHUI RIVERSIDE THAT HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF BUILDING A NATURAL ECOLOGICAL PARK

The Opening-Up
Pudong Development
On May 27, 1949, Shanghai was liberated. After years of unremitting reconstruction by successive Shanghai governments and people, Shanghai became an important industrial and commercial base.
Since 1978, Shanghai has implemented the reform and opening-up policy and made remarkable achievements in many fields.
In 1994, the Oriental Pearl was built in Lujiazui, which became the name card of Shanghai, and the completion of the Oriental Pearl also opened the prelude to the rise of Pudong, It also opened a new chapter of China's economic take-off
EXPO 2010 ‘Better city, better life’. The Shanghai World Expo was held from May 1, 2010 to October 31, 2010, a total of 184 days. The goal is to attract more than 200 countries and international organizations and 70 million tourists from home and abroad.

CHOOSE THREE ERODE FORMS FOR THREE DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS Activity Island : for People
Ecology Island : for Animals
Begin To Erode
The river water enters the river course, due to the restriction of the wall position, the degree of sediment erosion at the entrance is more serious.
Erode Phase 2
1. Topology
Set up offline platforms on the inland shore, and people can watch birds on the trails near the water
Bicycle lanes and walking paths are designed near the water, and beaches are set close to the water body, providing visitors with the possibility of getting close to the water body in a variety of ways.
Erode Phase 4
Begin To Erode
There are maintenance walls on both sides of the wall, and the entire shoal will be seldom eroded.
Erode Phase 2
1. Topology
Such shoals are mainly used for human activities.
Set up habitat here according to the habits of tidal flat birds.
People cannot go to the bird ecological island, creating a quiet and undisturbed environment for the bird habitat.
Erode Phase 3
2. Operation
The trails in the activity area are more staggered and used to divide different functional areas. According to the previous analysis, set up the waterfront pier to accept the needs of tourists boarding.
Bicycle lanes and pedestrian trails are mainly in contact with the activity area. Tourists can land on the islands for activities. The elevated bridges, coastal beaches and waterfront bicycle paths reflect the diversity of human activities
Ecology Island : for Filtering
Erode Phase 3
Erode Phase 4
Begin To Erode
Setting up a supporting wall on the upstream side of the river can reduce the erosion of the front end of the shoal.
Erode Phase 2
1. Topology
The erosion of the shoal at the outlet is deeper, where the water surface becomes shallow and open.
2. Operation
The water surface has more contact area with plants, plant some water-purifying aquatic plants to filter and purify the water body.
Set up a waterfront platform near the water bank for pedestrians to stay and play. The last two ecological islands are mainly used for highlevel greening and water purification. Tourists can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of the wetland on the beach

HOW TO BE NATURAL?
Taxodium Distichum Recreational spaces are arranged based on careful calculations of the dispersing distances for the key wildlife species in the river basin such that they do not intrude into the primary habitats. During floods, the recreational fields in the mudflats are temporarily returned to the river and repopulated by fish and waterfowl.
Cinnamomum Camphora
Metasequoia Glyptostroboides
Ciconia Larus Argentatus
Passer Anatidae Phragmites Communis Lythrum Salicaria
Scolopacidae
Arundo Donax This area is a transition zone between water and land or swamp, with a water depth below 0.3m. The arrangement of plants along the water side pays attention to artistic composition, and the arrangement of clumps, pieces and scattered plants is used to decorate the water side. The well-arranged reflections enrich the water level and make it wild and interesting.
Alongside logs for turtles to loaf on and submerged fish structures, waterfowl nesting platforms are installed in the open marsh.
The ecological island provides a habitat for birds near the Huangpu River, and at the same time it is equipped with water purification plants, which play a certain role in the treatment of water pollution.

02 FROM PAIN TO GAIN Mine Repair Project Location: Anshan, China Instructor: Hongfei Ji Group Project Collaborator: Mingze Chen, Xujin Fan Main Works in Group: Concept Design(40%)/ Digital Modeling(40%)/ Drawing(60%) 2019.09 - 2019.10 I still remembered the shock when I read "Silent Spring" in elementary school: apart from admiring the beauty of the earth, the author expressed her deep anxiety about nature. It was the first time I saw an explanation about the ecological network of soil, plants, animals, water sources, etc., which originated my interest in the ecological and environmental issues around me, leading to the path of landscape in destiny. From then on, I focus more on solving ecology problems through landscape strategies. As is revealed in the second project in my portfolio “From Pain to Gain”, inspired by such depend understanding. As the largest open-pit mine in Asia with a history of more than a century, the DAGUSHAN mine has witnessed the prosperity and decline of the northeast steel industrial center. It encroached on large tracts of mountain and forest land and produced a huge amount of solid waste. This caused soil salinization and problems of water and air pollution, floods, landslides, mudslides and other geological disasters. Our proposals started from detailed existing analysis, according to three different slope classifications by respective oil-fixing strategies, and using existing stone, wood, steel and waste materials as soil-fixing devices. Through ten, twenty and fifty-year re-greening plans, we intended to transform the bare brownfield into a lush mine park. Meanwhile, we used technology to connect the entire site with a cable car. Finally, by setting up a memorial park at the bottom of the mine, we wanted to remind people of the scars brought about by industrial development and created our expectations for the future.

Memorial Experience
Tourists take the cable car to the memorial landscape park at the bottom of the pit and follow the pre-set tour route into the garden. The first thing that catches the eye is a winding trail, the black pine, boxwood and other plants are planted in the order of high, middle and low along the trail, which create a fascinating and lush atmosphere. Sunlight shines through the undulating terrain to the bottom of the pit, guiding people to explore the inside of the memorial park.
As tourists continue to explore the interior of the memorial park, they wil discover the rusty steel plates standing on both sides of the trail, with white pebbles embellished underneath the steel plates. The white light beam is projected back and forth in a broken line through the circular holes carved in the steel plate. Such beams of light sprinkle on the passing pedestrians, directing people’s attention to the content on the steel plates on both sides: the development and decline of this century-old old industrial city and the history of this pit.
At this moment, the sky gradually began to rain, and the tourists continued to move forward and come to the core of the memorial park. The clear pool catches people’s eyes, and the continuous drizzle drip in the gurgling water, making a brisk sound. A deep sorrow spread in people's hearts, sighing the glory of this century-old industrial city and the scars brought to people by industrial civilization.
Finally, tourists come to the gravel slope. This piece of terrain and landscape created by gravel is reflecting the relics of industrial civilization in Anshan city. At this moment, the weather is clear after the rain, and the sunlight sprinkled from the crevices of the clouds shines on the tourists through the black pine forest. People have rekindled their vision for future urban development: a more sustainable and resilient urban development model has begun to take shape in people’s minds.
Perspective
Our proposals started from detailed existing analysis, according to three different slope classifications by respective oil-fixing strategies, and using existing stone, wood, steel and waste materials as soilfixing devices.
Model Model This is a set of models made and shot by my teammates and I. The stepped terrain undulates and stretches,We sprinkled green flocculent substances on the model to represent green plants and express the cable car with ropes and standing sticks. Through the lens, we can clearly see the design expressed by the model
03 BREATHE FREE Urban Plaza Design Location: Delhi, India Instructor: Shunyao Hu Group Project Collaborator: Junyan Chen Main Works in Group: Concept Design(50%)/ Digital Modeling(40%)/ Drawing(60%) 2020.09 Public spaces besides being a place for community coalition, provides an avenue for residents to breathe fresh air and be active. But the increased rate of pollution is slowly making it, a dysfunctional entity. Over the last three years, there has been an 8% increase in pollution. WHO reports that by 2030 the air will become so poisonous that having an oxygen kit will become a need.Right now people are advised to stay indoors and to not indulge in outdoor activities. With an increasing rate, it won’t be hard to imagine a possibility where people will seek refuge inside their hermetically sealed climate. Outdoor activities will start to spill indoor. Inward looking spaces will become crowded. Barely would anyone choose to interact beyond the confines of an artificial climate. Where does this leave the public spaces of the city?Public spaces essentially act as a respite place for a city. Beneficial for mental well-being, it also provides a sense of security. A place to engage, celebrate and breathe, it enriches a city fabric. But with an increased level of air pollutants, it is no longer functioning to its full potential. It's about time that we reclaim and rethink the public space.

Delhi Air Pollution Facts
TRADITIONAL FUEL Fuel wood and biomass burning is the primary reason for near-permanent haze and smoke observed above rural and urban India, and in satellite pictures of the country. Fuelwood and biomass cakes are used for cooking and general heating needs. These are burnt in cook stoves known as chullah or chulha piece in some parts of India.
RAPID INDUSTRIALIZATION India is still at very early stage of industrialization. And the central government is very inefficient in national housework type of tasks like cleaning pollution due to its social complexity and infamous sloppiness.
The Badarpur Thermal Power Station, a coal-fired power plant built in 1973, is another major source of air pollution in Delhi. Despite producing less than 8% of the city's electric p o w e r, i t p r o d u c e s 8 0 t o 90% of the particulate matter pollution from the electric power sector in Delhi.

OVER POPULATION
VEHICLE EMMISSION
Over-population only adds up to the various types of pollution, whether it is air pollution or noise pollution.
Many cars driven by Indians, including cars, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, etc., use diesel fuel, and they are quite inferior. Not to mention excessive emissions from this oil, it has already exceeded people's tolerance. For people in sensitive spots, after reaching the sky over India, the whole air is mixed with the inferior smell of diesel.
Children in New Delhi, India, wear masks to march, demanding the "right to breathe." Due to rapid urbanization, the air quality in New Delhi has deteriorated rapidly in recent years, and many schools have cancelled outdoor activities.

04 ART PART SELECTED WORK FROM SCHOOL PROJECTS & INDIVIDUAL CREATIVE WORKS Individual Project 2016.01 - 2021.01
These are some works carefully selected from all my past designs, including my graphic design, architectural design, landscape design and model design works, as well as some of my photography works. Although this part is not a landscape design in the traditional sense, it can reveal my understanding and thinking about the involved, my love for life, the environment we live in, and this land. I have always felt that a good designer must first be a person who loves life, a person who is full of passion anytime, anywhere. There are many beautiful things in the living reality, or, to be more precise, all beautiful things can only include In the living reality. Before university, I never thought that I could enter the meaningful and charming industry of landscape architecture. After reading the serious part about landscape design works, I hope you will still have the patience to read the last few pages. These scattered projects reflect my personal qualities, my understanding and thinking about the world, and , the love from the heart for this world

Kyoto, Japan
Yangzhou, China
This is a picture I recorded while traveling at Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, Japan. Walking into the Senbon Torii gate, the old faded dark red arches and the bright vermilion arches are densely intertwined. The sunlight is very spectacular and charming, and it is visually shocking.
This is the Little Qinhuai River I recorded with my lens. The snow in winter accumulates on the city wall. Red lanterns are hung on the eaves along the riverside. It is a beautiful view of the water town in the south of the Yangtze River in winter. .
Shanghai, China
Nanjing, China
The afterglow of the setting sun attracted me to take pictures on the roof. This is a photo of the panoramic skyline of Shanghai taken by me standing on the roof. The Oriental Pearl is faintly visible in the distance.
The ginkgo trees behind the eaves of the Daming Palace are full of golden leaves, attracting a large number of tourists
THE END A special thank to those who help me a lot in making this portfolio and those who give me selfless love in the process of growing up. I would achieve nothing without you.
