“ PUZZLE ” is the basic idea of my concept which means the “connection” between individual people also focus the relationship between the different groups and families. In a puzzle, one is required to connect pieces together in a logical way in order to arrive at the complete solution of it. Just like our project, there will be different people and families, but they need to be connected together in order get a better life. The concept is work for all clients in the building. As a family, the family numbers are definitely has genetic connection also they depend each other to get the harmony life. What’s more even though there are different families in the building as separate unit, they need to living within others and help with each other, connect together in order

15

to own cozy life in the building. I think everyone in the society, not only in this building is like the puzzle, we need others’ help somehow and need to connect with others so that we can survival in the society. In addition each piece of the puzzle is different which inspire me that put different culture in my project and do the building as the reflection of San Francisco. Since the people in the building may from different countries, they have their own culture and life style. So in this building I want to apply the culture that in this city into this small building, but have connection as a harmony society just like a complete picture that puzzle create.

CASA means “home” in Italian due to the concept of the market is to creating a cozy nest for people who live around the Mission Bay area so the market use the word that represent “home” as the name of it. Otherwise the market is different with others, it has a demonstration kitchen where customers can prepare their food just like in their own “ home ”. Also “ home ” means the foods and products in market are all home-made, healthy, and organic which can show the main idea of the market. The logo comes from “ CASA ” , the name of

44

the market. It use the capital letter of “ C ” and “ A ” then transform the shape of them to create a shape of “chain” which represents the market connects itself and the neighbors by the high quality foods and products , also means the market joints all neighbors around Mission Bay area as one community.
