CONCEPT Idea based on Bauhaus School of Architecture - segregation of buildings based on functionality. Rooftop garden with pergola over the single floor admin block serves as an informal interaction space. It also acts as a viewpoint for any function going on in the amphitheartre. Integrating the design with nature by scooping out space in the mass of the building to let trees grow through it.
Amphitheatre being shaded by the west sun from the already existing trees on the site.

Bicycle Oriented Development
Sustainable Drainage System
The entire stretch of the riverfront design will have a structured cycling track to increase mobility in a sustainable manner. With the placement of cycle stands close to public transportation spots, people will be encouraged to cycle, as these are easier to navigate through the congested streets of Chennai. As the Cooum passes through many major areas, the cycling track increases the city’s connectivity.
The riverfront is the edge between the city and the river and can be effectively used to collect surface runoff, treat it, and store it for non-potable uses. The buildings along the site will harvest rainwater. Bioretention tanks, swales, infiltration channels and treatment systems can harness surface runoff water. The water collected can b e integrated with public amenities to enhance the liveliness of the space. Moreover, the various plazas and amphitheatres are designed to act as catchment tanks during rains. This will also help in preventing the damage caused by floods.
Social Equity People from all over the country come to Chennai, in search of better jobs and better lives. Despite this diversity, the i n t e r a c t i o n s between these people are minimal. Our riverfront design will act as a platform for cultural pluralism. It will be a place where different cultures are respected and explored with an open mind. The design thereby promotes secularism and acceptance, bringing people closer together.
To create a vibrant riverfront that restores and regenerates the river and provides lively spaces for diverse activities.
Symbiotic Recycling
The developmental models in nature use waste from one particular system as raw materials for another system, so that extra energy is not expended in processing wastes. Thus the systems develop a symbiotic dependence on each other and the wastes produced are recycled within the model. This is called Symbiotic recycling.
