Site History - Existing Building

This mass model shows a plan view of the recycling centre with two floors and the exhibition space with two floors.

This mass model includes a linear arrangement of the buildings which allows a road in between the buildings for deliveries.

This shows the building arranged in different clusters but all close together possibly as one structure.

This also shows the building in a unique shape with all functions according to the brief but positioned in a way to create many paths on the site.

This is a very narrow approach to the site but does not benefit much from its orientation in terms of sunlight.

This building is drawn back from the street front, however, this does not prove to be an inviting design strategy, therefore this model was not developed.

The first row of circles show the entrance in yellow and where the recycling centre could be positioned. If the recycling are is near the front, then it will grasp the attention of the public immediately. Putting the reycling area in the middle will divide other two functions in the building, not allowing a consistent flow in the building. Putting the recycling centre on the far end will allow deliveries to possibly access it better, but will also interrupt the flow through the building

These orange shapes represent possible possitions for the exhibition space. The first circle is the best position as it allows the public to possibly see the exhibition space, walk through or around. The second diagram shows the gallery positioned on the facade, which is also very inviting for the public.

The last row of shapes represent the workshops. If the workshops are positioned close to the entrance, the public may want to engage in such activities. However, if the workshops are positioned more towards the south corner of the building, there would be more daylight for them to work in.
