THE IMPACT: THE NEW LYNN YMCA

A capital campaign to build the new Lynn YMCA Summer 2019

Meet Andrea Baez: The New Senior Executive Director of the Lynn YMCA The YMCA of Metro North is excited to announce that Andrea Baez joined our team as the Senior Executive Director for the Lynn Y Campus in April. Mrs. Baez was previously the Executive Director of the Dorchester YMCA for 4 years, and also served as Director of Operations at the Roxbury YMCA. Baez is a lifelong resident of Winthrop where she lives with her husband and two children. President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North Kathleen Walsh says “Andrea was an exceptional performer in the Dorchester community where the Y is thriving, and we are thrilled to have her energy, creativity and passion for the organization on our team.” Baez adds “I look forward to expanding the work that is already happening…as well as growing our member and participant base. I truly believe the Y has something for everyone, they may just not know it yet”. If you would like to reach out to Andrea and welcome her to her role at the Lynn YMCA you can email her at abaez@metronorthymca.org.

Construction Update We have had an exciting few months here at the construction site as the weather has improved. After concluding necessary ground work in February, and clearing "dirty" dirt from the site in April, concrete was poured in May for the new foundation! Next, we can't wait for some upward growth as the steel arrives this summer. The new Lynn YMCA is scheduled to open in Summer of 2020! Stay Tuned for Naming Opportunities for the New Lynn Y! In the next few weeks, opportunities will be shared with current and prospective donors regarding naming opportunities within the new Lynn YMCA facility. Opportunities at many levels will be available to make a lasting impact for generations of Lynn families, including childcare classrooms, wellness spaces, and much more. If you would like more information, please contact Kathleen Walsh at kwalsh@metronorthymca.org.

THE IMPACT: THE NEW LYNN YMCA

A capital campaign to build the new Lynn YMCA Donor Spotlight: Steve Hendrickson Get to know Steve, a lead donor for the Capital Campaign and Lynn native! What is your connection to Lynn? We moved to Lynn when I was 10, and I graduated from Lynn English in 1977. I remember the Y as being one of the places in Lynn that young people could have fun in a healthy and safe atmosphere. I have great thanks that Lynn provided me with an excellent education, widened my horizons, and was where I started my business, Christian Book Distributors. What hopes do you have for the city of Lynn? I have great hopes for Lynn to be a wonderful, diverse city, with the natural advantages of being on the ocean, an outstanding beach, close proximity to Boston, and all it provides, from best in the world health care, universities, museums and of course, sports teams. What makes you most excited about the new Lynn YMCA? Lynn’s children, youth and adults already enjoy an outstanding Y, from fitness activities, to day care, to food, music and many other enrichment programs. What it now will have, in the new Y building, is a vastly improved facility that matches the excellence of programs already in place. Lynn deserves this. With literally thousands of young people within walking distance, surrounded by ever improving educational facilities, this is the perfect location to serve the community, now and for years to come. What would you like to share with anyone considering supporting the Capital Campaign? If you want to see how the Lynn Y changes lives, just see the story of Amanda Mena [America's Got Talent semi-finalist]. She is just one example of the many ways that the Lynn Y is making an incredibly positive difference in the community. Many other stories could be told, from the parents whose children are well taken care of in day care, to adults having a great place for fitness, to youth who have after school and summer programs tohelp them grow and mature, and have positive role models. They are our future. I also have great confidence in the leadership of the Lynn Y, and the YMCA of Metro North. They are smart, capable, and care to do the very best for all communities, especially Lynn.
