Swim evaluations can be made at any time for anyone unsure of their current level or for participants new to YMCA of Metro North swim lessons. Please contact Debra Jimenez, Aquatics Director, at djimenez@metronorthymca.org or at 781-581-3105 x232 for more information.
Aquatics Regulations:
Per health code regulations, all swimmers must take a cleansing shower prior to entering the pool. All swimmers are also required to wear swim caps when in the pool.
Registration:
Registration for group swim lessons closes promptly at the end of the second week of each session. The full amount will be charged for those who register before or after the session begins.
Refunds:
Refunds must be requested within the first week of each session. Payment is nonrefundable after the first week.

Group Swim Lessons:
Each swim class requires a minimum of 3 swimmers to run. Classes with less than 3 swimmers will be combined with another class.
Observation:
Parents/guardians are invited to observe the first and last swim classes from the pool deck. During the other classes, spectators are asked to wait outside the pool area to allow our swimmers to better focus on class.
Parent/Child 1: 6-18 months (w/ parent) Parents learn water safety, holds and towing techniques that encourage basic kicking/pulling and water independence for children. Swim diaper must be worn. Sat: 10:00am
Parent/Child 2: 19-36 months (w/ parent) Toddlers are introduced to submerging, kicking and pulling combinations, floating and swimming without flotation. Swim diaper must be worn for children not potty trained. Sat: 10:30am
Parent/Child 3: 3-4 years The final step in our Parent/Child series. In addition to beginner swimming, basic water adjustment and safety skills will also be introduced. In this class children learn to love the water and prepare to be independent to join our preschool swimming classes without an adult. Sat: 11:00am
Skippers: 2.9-3 years This class will help transition students to being in a full Pike class. Parents are not required to be in the pool, though may join in to help with transition on instructors recommendation. Sun: 10:00am

Eel: 3-6 years Flotation based introduction to the major 4 swimming strokes. Class includes diving skills and opportunities to practice swimming without flotation. Prerequisite: Able to paddle independently, float on their back with a flotation device and put face under the water. Children will have a level 3 bubble. Ray: 3-6 years Learn rotary breathing and improve stamina for swimming strokes. Class goal is to eliminate flotation completely and swim independently. Swimmers bubbles should be no more than a level 2 bubble. Prerequisite: Able to swim 10 feet or more without flotation and fully submerge their head. Thu: 5:15pm Fri: 5:30pm Sun: 10:00am Sat: 9:00am
Star Fish: 3-6 years Introduction to front crawl with alternating arm recovery, rhythmic breathing and combined stroke on back will be taught. Children can swim a length of the pool on their front and back at the end of this level. Prerequisite: Swimmer must be able to swim the width of 3 lanes without flotation. Pike: 3-6 years This class is for children who have little or no water experience or have a fear of the water. Kicking, floating, reaching, shoulder bobbing and jumping are taught. Minnow: 6+ years Swimmers must swim 1 length of front crawl with rhythmic breathing and 1 length of backstroke to enter this class. The children refine the lead up strokes they have learned as their strokes become more developed. Mon: 3:45pm Tue: 3:45pm Thu: 3:50pm Sat: 10:00am

TEEN SWIM 13-17 years | 40 minute classes Free for all teens!
Teen Learn to Swim: Embrace in what the Lynn Y has to offer and learn to swim today. This class will teach basic swimming skills as well as water safety. Participants can take advantage of this class only once. Tue: 4:30pm Thu: 4:30pm Sun: 9:00am

AQUATICS PROGRAMS Swim Team: 60 minute class M: $30/session N: $65/session The Lynn YMCA swim team is a competitive environment for swimmers looking to continue building their swimming skills in a team format. The team focuses on stroke development, technique, and racing starts/ turns. Prerequisite: Swimmers must be able to demonstrate strength in swimming. They must be able to swim at least 2 lengths of the pool, have knowledge of all 4 strokes, and have the desire to commit to the team. Mon: 7:30pm Sat: 1:00pm
Water Fitness: 60 minute class All year long, no registration required! These classes are low impact water workouts that combine interval training and strengthening exercises for the entire body. Mon-Fri: 9:15am Mon-Thu: 6:30pm Sat: 8:15am (45 minute class)
Aqua Zumba:
Adult Beginner: Adults will learn basic swimming skills in a low pressure class. Swimmers will build confidence and learn the fundamentals of aquatic safety. Tue: 8:15am Wed: 5:30pm Thu: 12:15pm Sat: 9:00am

60 minute class A low impact, high energy water workout that combines the philosophy and fun of Zumba with water resistance. Fri: 9:15am
Water Resistance Training: 60 minute class This class is a great workout that combines interval aerobic training to burn calories and resistance exercises to build muscle in the water led by a certified water fitness instructor/personal trainer. Tue: 6:30pm Thu: 6:30pm

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Kids Night Out: M: $5-$15 | 2 hour event Let your child stay late on a Friday night to enjoy a themed evening of activities from 6:00-8:00pm, supervised by our youth staff. Permission slips are available and must be returned in advance. A light dinner is included. See Youth Center Staff for dates and details! Fri: 6:00pm
GPA Study Group:
3rd-12th graders | 60 minute class Free for members and the community! Tutors are present to assist with school work and academic skill development. Activities related to improving reading, writing, computer and communication skills are included in this program. Computer access is available. The program runs when school is in session. Participants must commit to coming at least 3 sessions per week for at least 6 months. Mon-Thu: 6:00pm
Leaders Club:
Middle School Age | 3 hour event Free with Middle School ID or Family Membership! This program is focused on service learning and leadership development. Leaders club is a middle school aged after-school dropin program that is free with a membership. Organized activities include: leadership development, community service and service learning, music studio, team building, fitness activities, mentoring, fun games, sports, swim and field trips. The Youth will move through the YMCA between activities without direct supervision. Mon-Fri: 3:00pm
YOUTH /TEEN ENRICHMENT Kid’s Healthy Kitchen & Cafe:

Kaya:
13-18 years | 2 hour class “Kaya” is a Khmer/Cambodian word meaning “body” and “character.” Our mission is to “SPARK the POWER of YOUTH to GENERATE POSITIVE CHANGE. We strive to accomplish the mission through youth-led events, interactive workshops, film screenings, and creative expression. Activities focus on Healthy Living (fitness and health), Social Responsibility (volunteering and community events), and Youth Development (academic support, team building and social skills). Khmer New Year:
All Ages | Saturday, April 30 Free for members and the community! Annual Khmer New Year Community Fair Event! Join us for a day packed with entertainment, community spirit and fun, and a year of good health and prosperity. The event will feature traditional Khmer dances, traditional games, food and crafts vending by Lynn businesses and restaurants, raffles, guest speakers, informational tabling by human service organizations and live performances. Youth Basketball League: 55 minute class Over the first two weeks evaluations will be conducted as players go through a series of drills before being placed on a team. The last 6 weeks of the session will consist of games between the teams. Depending on skill level, youth may practice and play outside of their age bracket.
