Aquatics Parent & Child Swim Lessons

7 Week Session

30 Minutes | 6 months – Age 3 F: $64 M: $98 N: $155 Parent/ Child A (6-18 Months w/parent)

Parent/ Child B (19 - 36 Months w/parent)

Parents learn water safety, holds and towing techniques that encourage basic kicking/pulling and water independence for children. Swim diaper must be worn.

Toddlers are introduced to submerging, kicking and pulling combinations, floating and swimming without flotation. Swim diaper must be worn for children not toilet trained.

Stage 3

This class is for the child who has little or no experience. Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. *We will offer 2 classes during each time slot **Stage 1/2 classes will run simultaneously

Stage 2 Swimmers must swim 5 feet without assistance or flotation and fully submerge their face in the water to enter this class. Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. **Stage 1/2 classes will run simultaneously

Swimmers must swim 15 yards or half the pool. Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.

Stage 4 Swimmers must be able to proficiently swim the length of the pool, 25 yards, on stomach and back without flotation to enter. Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. This class is taught in the deep end.

Youth Swim

7 Week Session

30 Minutes | Ages 6+ F: $70 M: $125 N: $190 Stage 1 & 2

Stage 5

This class is for the child who has little or no experience. Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. Level 1 will be for first time or very beginner swimmers while level 2 is for slightly more experienced swimmers.

40 Minutes F: $75 M: $130 N: $195 Swimmers must be able to swim the entire length of the pool with proficient front crawl and backstroke and tread water for 1 minute without becoming exhausted to enter this class. Please bring goggles.

Stage 6

Swimmers must swim 20 feet without flotation to enter this class. Develops endurance and intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.

40 Minutes F: $75 M: $130 N: $195 Swimmers must be able to swim 200 yards continuously with proficient front crawl and backstroke, with rudimentary breast stroke, butterfly stroke and tread water for 2 minutes to enter this class. Please bring goggles.

Teen Beginner Swim Class A class for teens who are beginner swimmers or who have never had lessons. Improve confidence, comfort, teach floating, horizontal swimming skills in freestyle and backstroke.

Adult Swim Training Club

Adult Swim Stroke Development

For beginner and advanced swimmers seeking to improve their technique and overall fitness. This two days per week training program will provide you with new and challenging workouts to improve stroke technique, endurance, speed, and strength.

Develop basic swim strokes and use swimming as a source of fitness. It is recommended that participants have taken beginner swim lessons before or have prior experience. Participants should be able to swim at minimum 1 length of the pool.

Specialty Youth Swim Classes

7 Week Session

Beginner Springboard Diving

Adaptive Swim Academy

Learn the basics of competitive diving. Students will practice back jumps in straight position, pike and tuck body positions, and forward and back dives. Divers must be able to pass the deep end swim test and do a forward dive from the side of the pool.

This class provides basic swim skills and teaches essential water safety techniques with the needs of each individual. Participant must begin the session accompanied by an adult in the water. This course is taught by special education teacher and Adaptive Aquatics Specialist Rachel Ellyson M. Ed.

Advanced Springboard Diving

Age Key: 1: Ages 3-6 | 2: Ages 7-13 | 3: Ages 14+

Swim Evaluations

Swim Testing

Not sure what stage to sign your child up for? Come in for a swim evaluation. Please contact Jose Medina, Aquatics Director, at jmedina@metronorthymca.org to make an appointment. Swim evaluations will take place on Saturdays from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.

All swimmers under 18 need to be swim tested in order to use the deep end of the pool. Swim test includes swimming 25 yards in a horizontal position, jumping into deep water, and treading water for 30 seconds. Swimmers who do not pass or choose not to take it must remain in the shallow end. Children under 10 years of age or shorter than 50 inches must wear a U.S. Coast Guard personal flotation device (PFD). Swimmers who are in the pool with parents at arm’s length may be excused of using a PFD. Anyone under the age of 7, regardless of ability, must be within arm’s reach of an adult at all times. Lifeguards reserve the right to retest swimmers.

Swim Teams Little Piranhas:

A swim class specifically designed for swimmers who wish to join a swim team in the future. Taught by experienced aquatic instructors with a competitive swim background. Little Piranhas will prepare children for the swim team through stroke drills, endurance sets, flip turns, and race starts. For those of Youth Level 5 and 6 ability who are looking for a more competitive next step.

Piranhas Swim Team

The Piranhas swim team is for swimmers ages 6-18. The swim team practices multiple days a week. The spring session will then run April 8th-June 21st. For more information, contact Sara Jezowski at sjezowski@metronorthymca.org. Spring Tryouts April 4 & 5: 6:00pm April 6: 12:00pm

Private Lessons Private lessons are a great way to learn to swim or improve stroke techniques. Each lesson lasts 30 minutes. To register, fill out the online request form located at : http://www.ymcametronorth.org/aquatics/private-swim-lessons-request-form/ Private 1 Class 4 Classes 6 Classes

Certification Classes Lifeguard Certification Course

Ages 15+ | M: $300 N: $425 Students will be trained in the nationally recognized Red Cross Lifeguard Course including CPR, First Aid, and AED. Certification is determined by successful completion of in person skill sessions and a comprehensive written exam and water test. Swimming skills are a prerequisite and attendance in all classes is mandatory. Participants must be at least 15 years old by the final day of class. CPR/First Aid/AED for the Community

M:$50 N:$75 This program is for individuals who want or are required to have CPR/AED and First Aid knowledge and skills. Certification will be from the American Red Cross. Recertification: March 31,

Open Water Certification: Part of the lifeguard certification course for students who need additional training. This is added to the total of the Lifeguard Certification Course. Children will be introduced to a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer, tee-ball, floor hockey, gross motor skills or running, jumping, throwing, and kicking, all in a fun and supportive environment!

Runners will log laps in our indoor track or through campground trails while learning basics of calisthenics, endurance, pace, and proper running/stretching technique.

45 Minutes | Ages 7-12 Learn to drive, chip, and putt in this introduction to one of the oldest games, Golf! This is a great class for beginners. Kids can bring their own clubs or use ones provided by the Y. Age Key: 1: Ages 6-9 | 2: Ages 10-13

Youth League Tee Ball League Saturdays: May 11 to June 29 (8 weeks) Ages 3-5 F: $80 M:$115 N:$150 This instructional league is for all ability levels to play and learn the game of tee-ball. We e mphasize team play, competition, fun, and fair play. Each week we will work on basic skills for 30 minutes followed by a 30 minute game against another Y team! Volunteer coaches will help develop and enhance children’s skills in a fun, team oriented setting. Jump into Spring with Tee-Ball! Sign up today! Enhance Fitness is a chair-based class geared toward older adults of all fitness levels looking to gain more strength and independence. Emphasis is placed on balance, fall prevention, and functional strength, all in a fun social environment.

This small group training is geared towards active older adults looking to stay healthy and improve their fitness. The group will be guided through a safe and effective workout focusing on mobility, stability, and cardiorespiratory health.
