Bank of America Student Vanderbilt’s Leaders Leaders Welcomed to Club Hosts First Summer Vanderbilt Community Service Project
From left to right: Bank of Ameriica Student Leaders, Cindy Pietrakowski, Yulin Yang and Zainab Oni, at Vanderbilt’s Full Team Staff Meeting.
This summer the Vanderbilt YMCA welcomed 3 Bank of America Student Leaders. The Bank of America Student Leaders program connects high school juniors and seniors that possess leadership qualities to internships at local nonprofit organizations. This year, over 200 students applied for this program and only 5 were selected in the New York City market. The goal of the program is to inspire future leaders in the field of nonprofit organizations. The Vanderbilt YMCA is honored to be hosting the 3 student leaders this summer from June to August. The student leaders will be working with various departments learning what each department does and assisting with day to day tasks. The students that joined the Vanderbilt YMCA are Zainab Oni, Cindy Pietrakowski and Yulin Yang. Zainab Oni has recently graduated from Hudson High School of Learning Technologies and is heading onto University of Virginia as a Quest Bridge Scholar. Her passion lies with human centered design and innovation. Cindy Pietrakowski is a rising senior at Maspeth High School. She is currently the Key Club Lieutenants Governor of Division 8A . She is very enthusiastic about creating service projects for her community. Yulin Yang is a rising senior at Queens High School for the Sciences at York College. She is academically stimulated by the STEM field and the research world. She is currently working on a voice recognition system as a diagnosis tool for dementia. The Vanderbilt Leaders Club held their first summer community service project on July 25th. The Leaders collected garbage in St. Catherine’s Park to help keep the area clean for Vanderbilt summer campers. Friends of St Catherine’s Park President, Beth Herman praised the volunteers saying, “These young people are amazing. We appreciate their help!” The Vanderbilt Leaders are looking forward to providing much needed service to their community. You can meet many of tomorrow’s leaders today at the YMCA Leaders Club, a leadership incubation program that gives teens the opportunity to learn to become more effective in their interactions with others. Teens improve their individual leadership and social skills while also experiencing new ways to give back and grow as human beings. They meet on a weekly basis in small groups to develop and implement projects aimed at providing valuable service to their local community.
