Do you need someone to look after your child (ages 6 months - 7 years) while you work out? We’re here for you! You may bring your child (for a maximum of two hours per day) to the YMCA Child Watch Program. Kids will enjoy creative play in a fun, safe environment with responsible YMCA staff members. Child Watch is FREE with Adult or Family Membership. There is a $2.00/hour fee for Program Members and $1 each additional child/hour. We offer a complimentary fitness orientation with one of our staff for all new members as an introduction to our cardiovascular and strength training equipment.

Consultation includes body fat and lean muscle weight analysis using calipers with complete assessment report and exercise recommendations. Please wear loose fitting clothing as we will need to access the thigh and abdominal areas (and chest for men). Women are asked to wear a sports bra. Tests will be conducted in private.

Looking for greater results or need additional motivation? A certified YMCA Personal Trainer can coach you to new levels of fitness. Gift Certificates are available. Personal Training & Semi-Private Cancellations & Policies A client may cancel directly with the trainer without penalty by giving 24 hours notice. If notice is not given within a 24-hour period, the client will be charged for the session. All sessions are valid for one year from date of purchase. Only YMCA personnel are permitted to conduct personal training sessions within the Y.

Hi-Lo Aerobics A rhythmic aerobic workout in which at least one foot contacts the ground at all times that provides a challenging cardiovascular workout.

AOA Sit Fit Get fit while you sit in this chair exercise class that involves a combination of aerobic activity, strength building and stretching. AOA Strength Training This strength training workout is especially for older adults, or anyone who would like to include a low-intensity, low-impact workout in their fitness plans. Boot Camp This advanced and efficient circuit training workout that challenges your entire body, utilizing calisthenics and plyometrics such as pushups, jumping jacks, crunches and other body weight exercises. Cardio Circuit This efficient and challenging form of cardio training uses a variety of exercises and workout stations

Iyengar Yoga A form of yoga known for precision, alignment and a focus on individual postures and their therapeutic benefits. Iyengar yoga promotes quiet, an inward focus, and a heightened consciousness Line Dancing Line Dancing is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows, all facing either each other or in the same direction and executing the steps at the same time. Beginners and experienced line dancers are welcome to join our class. Masala Bhangra The Masala Bhangra Workout is an exercise dance routine that modernizes the high-energy folk dance of Bhangra by blending traditional Bhangra dance steps and the exhilaration of Bollywood (Hindi film) moves. The Masala Bhangra Workout will effectively tone and build muscle strength while burning fat and calories, all while you dance to the rhythm of the drum. You’ll have so much fun, you’ll forget you’re working out.

Cardio Kickboxing This high energy class combines muscle conditioning with kickboxing combinations of punches and kicks in a variety of drills, exercises, and self-defense techniques.

Moving for Better Balance Balance training regimen designed for older adults and people with balance disorders. This unique training approach is the culmination of a systematic series of scientific studies to improve efficacy, utility, and community and clinical relevance.

Cardio Salsa A cardiovascular workout which combines the rhythm and footwork of Latin dance in a traditional aerobic class format.

Pilates Mat Based on original Pilates techniques, this class is designed to restore muscular balance, improve posture, helps prevent injury and build strength and flexibility.

Chair Yoga A gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair, or standing using a chair for support.

PiYo PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility of flowing yoga movements. You’ll use your body weight to perform a single series of continuous, targeted moves to define every single muscle.

Core Training This class focuses on deep abdominal and back muscles through training to improve stability and overall body strength. Family Zumba This class is a fusion of Latin and International music, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, fitness program effective enough for parents but fun enough for kids. HIIT HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is an intermediate/advanced class incorporates all elements of a boot camp class to give you an intense work out. Using plyometric principles of muscle loading, this class will incorporate cardiovascular and strength exercise in the form of quick jumps, strength training, and aerobic exercise in group and station formats. 8 | Cross Island Y Winter & Spring 2016

Retro Total Body Conditioning A full body workout designed to strengthen and tone the upper and lower body featuring classic music hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Spin A great cardio workout of simulated road bike riding to energizing music appropriate for all fitness levels. You can adjust your workout to match your personal comfort zone. The instructors will lead you on a ride designed to improve your fitness on a variety of levels. Participants must be at least 5’ to ride the bikes. Step and Conditioning For all fitness levels, combining step with cardiovascular, muscular strength and muscular endurance activities. Exercises use variety of conditioning equipment. Stretching Is an essential component of fitness that is often neglected or left out in preference for developing other areas of fitness. This class uses a variety of stretching methods to gradually increase muscle strength and extend the range of movements at the joints. This may help prevent injury and improve performance of health and sports related activities

Aqua Exercise AOA Water Aerobics An instructional class of aerobic movements performed in the water, to improve cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility Aqua Jog A unique exercise class that takes place in the water, utilizing floatation devices to allow “jogging” in deep water. No swimming experience is required, but participants should be comfortable being in deep water.

Total Body Conditioning A full body workout designed to strengthen and tone the upper and lower body using sculpting, ploymetric training, and hand-held weights for body segments.

Aqua Zumba Known as the Zumba “pool party,” Aqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, waterbased workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.

Vinyasa Yoga This class format includes basic, easy to follow simple sequencing of yoga poses designed to encourage greater flexibility. Relaxing and restorative.

Water Aerobics An instructional class of aerobic movements performed in the water, to improve cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility.

Yoga Flowing sequences of yoga poses linked together by an emphasis on breathing technique. Zumba Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin/International rhythms and movements. These easy to follow moves feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms, and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Zumba Step Combine the awesome toning and strengthening power of Step aerobics, with the fun fitness-party that only Zumba brings to the dance-floor. Zumba Toning When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba Toning raises the bar (or rather, the toning stick). If you are at high risk for type 2 diabetes, this program can help you adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles that will help you reduce your chances of developing diabetes.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will help facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over the course of 16 one-hour sessions. After the initial 16 core sessions, participants meet monthly for added support to help them maintain their progress.

PROGRAM GOALS: • Reduce body weight by 7% • Increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

In order to qualify for the program, you must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25)* and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with prediabetes† by a healthcare provider. The national price for the program is $429.00 per person. Check with your health insurance provider to see if the cost is covered. Financial assistance is also available. STRIVE FOR YOUR BEST HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PROGRAMS Self Defense REGISTER Learn the self defense system called Shaolin Kempo, which is a modern martial art derived from a multitude of martial arts, including Karate, Kung fu, Kempo Art, Jiu Jitsu and Shaolin Temple Boxing. Everyone’s safety is important to us, especially children. We ask that all abide by our pool guidelines. 1. Street shoes are not allowed on the pool deck

8. Breath holding during any aquatics activity is not allowed as can lead to person blacking out

2. Everyone in the pool must wear a swim cap 3. Children 8 years old and younger must be within arm’s length of a parent/adult guardian when in the pool

9. Inflatable rings, balls, noodles or other large pool toys are not permitted 10. Instructional swim aids (kick boards/barbells/ pull buoys/noodles) are only for class use

4. Children between the ages of 9 and 11 must have a parent/adult guardian on the pool deck 11. All questions regarding the Aquatics policies/ procedures should be directed to the Aquatics or viewing area at all times Director or Executive Director 5. All non-swimmers must remain in the shallow area 6.

Any child wearing a flotation device must remain in the shallow area. Backpacks/ bubbles and lifejackets are provided as a flotation device to non-swimmers

Membership Cancellation

The YMCA of Greater New York is a community service organization that promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body, welcoming all people with a focus on youth.

Cancellation of membership requires a fifteen (15) day written notice prior to the monthly draft date.

Policy of Non-Discrimination YMCA membership is available to all persons regardless of race, religion, gender, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or financial circumstances. The YMCA welcomes families and persons of all ages, income levels, and physical conditions with an emphasis on responsibility and self-improvement.

Membership Guarantee Membership in the YMCA is fully guaranteed. Members who are not completely satisfied with their YMCA membership are entitled to a refund of any unused portion of their membership.

Membership Cards

Membership Card The Cross Island membership card must be presented and scanned in order to gain access into a YMCA facility.

Program cards Program members will be issued a card granting them YMCA access for their program. This card must be presented and scanned for access into the YMCA facility and/or a specific program.

Lost Cards Please let us know if your card is lost or stolen. There is a fee to issue a replacement card.

Membership Transfer Membership and program privileges are not transferable from one person to another.

Membership HOLdS Adult, Senior or Family Members may put their membership on hold for 1 - 4 months during any calendar year. A hold on membership requires a fifteen (15) day written notice prior to hold. All membership privileges will be suspended while your membership is on hold.

Payment Options & Information • Membership dues must be up-to-date in order to use facility. • Rates and schedules are subject to change. • Membership may be paid in full by cash, personal checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards. • Monthly payments are payable by credit card or bank draft only. There is no cash option for monthly payments. • If an automatic back or credit card draft is returned for insufficient funds a service fee of $15.00 will be added to the payment amount. • If an check is returned for insufficient funds a service fee of $30.00 will be added to the payment amount.

Guest and Day Passes All YMCA members are given complimentary guest passes per year to help introduce the Y to friends and associates. Cross Island members are welcome to visit other YMCA locations within NYC 10 times per year at no charge. Day passes are available to purchase. Adult (18 & up) $15; Youth (under 18) $8.

For the privacy and security of all—especially our kids and teens—we do not allow any photo or video recording without permission from the Communications Director.

When you volunteer at the Y, you take an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change right in your own neighborhood. As a program volunteer, board member or Annual Support Campaign fundraiser, you can make a difference for our Y and the community as a whole.

Locker Rooms & Lockers • Lockers are available for daily use. Please bring your own lock and secure your belongings when using the facility. • Our JK pool deck changing area is a good alternative for parents who wish to accompany their child that is over the age of five and of the opposite gender.

If there’s a problem with any of the equipment or the facility, please let a staff person know. If there’s an incident or accident, contact a uniformed staff person immediately.
