This is a high energy class that teaches traditional African dance. The class will focus on the regions of West Africa, the Caribbean & the African Diaspora. Participants will be educated about African culture and dance along with the rhythm of the Djembe drum and a variety of other African instruments.
This class will encourage imagination, creativity, musicality, and graceful movement. Participants are taught basic ballet positions and movement while learning class etiquette and how to follow instructions in an enjoyable environment.

ZUMBA
ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness program. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.
TABATA
This style class is sure to take your workout to the next level. Each exercise will range from 20 seconds to 1 minute of high intensity followed by anywhere between 5 to 30 seconds of rest for a period of up to 8 cycles.

YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM
Reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes with the YMCA ’s Diabetes Prevention Program. Over the course of 16 weekly one-hour sessions, a trained lifestyle coach will help you learn about healthy eating, getting started with physical activity, overcoming stress, staying motivated and other behavior changes, all in a comfortable classroom setting.

The Y Fit Start Program is 12 week program for new and returning exercisers. During the 12 weeks, you will have 4 face to face appointments with a Y Fit Start Coach to provide you with personal attention and extra motivation to help keep you on track. Y Fit Start provides a structured, sensible fitness routine, gradually adding new exercises at each meeting. These small changes will lead to greater success in achieving your health goals. YMVP Teen Fitness Challenge
Y-MVP is a FREE 8-week program that combines fun fitness activities with an interactive app to entice teens (middle school and high school ) to become more physically active. Over the course of the challenge, Participants meet as a small class once a week with a trained coach to take on fitness “quests.” At the end of each class, teens receive a fitness “mission” that they need to complete before the next class during after-school or weekend teen fitness hours. Program participants record their workouts and check on their progress in the Y-MVP app, and are recognized and rewarded by earning digital badges and other fun incentives. Y-MVP is a program uniquely designed to teach teens how to develop dynamic fitness routines that work for them, and all levels of fitness are welcome. Get fit! Make friends! Have fun!

YMCA summer camps provide children with positive and fun experiences that build confidence, new friendships, lifelong memories and a feeling of community that will last beyond the summer. the american camping association (aca) accredits our camps. staffs go through rigorous training to ensure the safety and positive experience of our ymca camps have something unique to offer for every age group from our Kindercamp Programs to teen camp. Our goal is to meet your child’s developmental needs and provide a foundation for continued learning during the summer months. alongside sports, swimming and arts programs, the ymca offers academic enrichment that is infused throughout the camp day. these programs include summer reading, journal writing and science activities. Kindercamp is designed for children entering into kindergarten in september 2015. structured day camp activities support the transition to kindergarten by building social and emotional skills in a fun and nurturing environment; including a focus on classroom structure, transitional activities, and group play. Traditional Day campers will engage in activities that will enhance their social and emotional skills, help keep their academics on track, keep them physically active and challenge them to learn new things everyday.

Not sure how to use the equipment or what you should be doing? Orientations are free for all members!
5. Help us keep the Y clean. Wipe off equipment after each use. Return all equipment when finished with it. Take your personal items with you. Remove the plates from lifting bars when you’re done. Don’t bring food, open containers or coffee cups into the center.
2. Just ask. We’re here to help! 3. If there’s a problem with any of the equipment or the facility, please let a staff person know. If there’s an incident or accident, contact a uniformed staff person immediately.
6. Give others a turn. The equipment is here for everyone to use. Please respect the 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment if others are waiting, and follow any posted sign-up procedures.
4. Be safe. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. (Open-toed shoes, over-restrictive or street clothes are not allowed.) Have a spotter help you with free weights. Warm up before and cool down after exercise. Make sure you’ve had enough to eat and drink before exercising to prevent dizziness or lightheadedness. If you are experiencing dizziness, pain or unusual discomfort at any time, stop the exercise and ask staff for help.
7. Storing your stuff. Daily lockers are reserved for your personal items while you are in the Y. Items may be left overnight only in rented lockers. Please speak with a Member Service Representative for more information on monthly locker rentals. 8. Youth are welcome after completing an orientation and submitting a signed parental consent form (ages 12-17).
9. Get personal. Personal trainers are available. Ask a staff person for more information. 10. Hang it up. For your safety and in consideration for others, please refrain from cell phone use while in the fitness facilities.

TAKE CONTROL REDUCE YOUR DIABETES RISK AND GAIN TOOLS FOR HEALTHY LIVING THROUGH THE YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM.
If you are at high risk for type 2 diabetes, this program can help you adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles that will help you reduce your chances of developing diabetes.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will help facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over the course of 16 one-hour sessions. After the initial 16 core sessions, participants meet monthly for added support to help them maintain their progress.
PROGRAM GOALS:
• Reduce body weight by 7% • Increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
In order to qualify for the program, you must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25)* and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with prediabetes† by a healthcare provider. The national price for the program is $429.00 per person. Check with your health insurance provider to see if the cost is covered. Financial assistance is also available. IT’S ABOUT THE WHOLE PERSON HEALTH & WELL-BEING FOR CANCER SURVIVORS The Y and LIVESTRONG joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors achieve their holistic health goals. The researchbased program offers people affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to achieve their goals, such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. In addition to physical benefits, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on the emotional well-being of survivors and their families by providing a supportive community where people impacted by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond.

The YMCA is committed to serving the immigrant population of New York City and in response to their needs, New Americans Initiative opened in 1979 to help immigrants achieve literacy, cultural competence, and self-sufficiency. The goal is to be recognized by every New American as a “safe haven” that provides multilingual information, resources and referrals and a wide range of services (instructional, vocational, and family support) that will help them attain their goals. The New Americans Initiative, ELESAIR Project serves as multilingual information resource and referral center and provides immigrant families with a wide array of instructional, vocational, recreational, family support, and human services. Instructional services include English as a Second Language, Cultural Orientation, Citizenship Preparation, Job Readiness, and Computer Literacy. All services are free of charge. The YMCA of Greater New York is a community service organization that promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body, welcoming all people with a focus on youth.
Members may put their membership on hold for 1 to 3 months during any calendar year. A monthly hold fee will be charged. Membership privileges are surrendered while your membership is on hold.

MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION Cancellation of membership requires a fifteen (15) day written notice prior to the monthly draft date.
MEMBERSHIP TRANSFER Membership and program privileges are not transferable from one person to another.
MEMBERSHIP GUARANTEE Membership in the YMCA is fully guaranteed. Members who are not completely satisfied with their YMCA membership are entitled to a refund of any unused portion of their membership.
MEMBERSHIP CARD MEMBERSHIP CARD The Branch membership card must be presented and scanned in order to gain access into a YMCA facility. PROGRAM CARDS Program members will be issued a card granting them YMCA access for their program. This card must be presented and scanned for access into the YMCA facility and/or a specific program. LOST CARDS Please let us know if your card is lost or stolen.
Membership fees must be up-to-date in order to use facility. Rates and schedules are subject to change. Membership may be paid in full by cash, personal checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards. Monthly payments are payable by credit card or bank draft only. There is no cash option for monthly payments. If a check or an automatic back draft is returned for insufficient funds a service fee of $15.00 will be added to the payment amount.
GUEST AND DAY PASSES Branch members are welcome to visit other YMCA locations within NYC a total of 10 times per calendar year at no charge. Free passes are available on the YMCA web site to introduce the Y to friends and associates. Day Passes are available to purchase.
CAMERA POLICY For the privacy and security of all—especially our kids and teens—we do not allow any photo or video recording without permission from the Executive Director.
LOCKER ROOMS • •
Lockers are available for daily use. Please bring your own lock and secure your belongings when using the facility. Our family-friendly locker room are a good alternative for parents who wish to accompany their children that are over the age of five and of the opposite gender.
YMCA “AWAY”’ POLICY AWAY (Always Welcome at the YMCA) As a YMCA member, you have access to YMCAs across the country and around the world. You must present a valid YMCA ID to be eligible to use AWAY privileges. Call ahead to check on individual branch policies.
