MEMBER LOUNGE RENOVATION UPDATE

Photo taken of the lounge under renovations.

As you may recall on Presidents Day the sprinkler head burst causing the member lounge to flood. The lounge underwent major renovations to restore it back to its original state. The McBurney YMCA received State Funding for 2015. We will be using this funding to renovate our existing Member Lounge. Spivak Architects have designed a fresh new look for the lounge and above you will see the 3D image of our soon to be member lounge. The lounge will be closed during our normal pool shut down from August 24th- August 30th while undergoing major renovations. Renovations include: installation of new lighting, updating the wall with vibrant panels and a Y Logo, removing the existing paneling on the windows to see the entire aquatic center, adding all new furniture, two television monitors to display programs, additional outlets for charging electronic devices and a reading nook with a built in bookcase.

The McBurney Room partition was upgraded on June 26 and the floors were buffed and waxed to make the room sparkle. We hope all of our participants, members and community groups appreciate the upgrades.

READY SET MATH AND READ GRADUATES SHINE Ready Set Math and Read graduated on June 19th. With blue and white cap and gowns the children proudly sang their graduation version of Dynamite. It was a great year of learning their letters, numbers, writing and getting to meet new friends. Are young graduates are either going to pre-k or kindergarten in the Fall. We are very proud of what each child accomplished this past year.

CHALLENGED ATHLETES FOUNDATION MAKES A SPLASH! Recently the McBurney Aquatic Department hosted the Challenged Athletes Foundation. CAF provides opportunities for people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles. Many of these athletes compete competitively. A few of the athletes are war veterans that were injured and continuing to pursue athlete endeavors. The McBurney YMCA is grateful to have this opportunity to work with CAF. If you have a group that is interested in renting pool space, please contact Aquatic Director Raymond DeWire at rdewire@ymcanyc.org with any questions.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALEXANDER PORTER! Alexander finished 1st in Tennis at the NYC Senior Games in the 85-89 age group!
