YOUNG MEN’S CALISTHENICS

Boys ages 11-16

Calisthenics is an unofficial sport of bodyweight exercises. The class will begin in the gym with options to create creative exercise moves inside & outside the YMCA. Calisthenics is accessible anywhere and everywhere, imagination is the only limitation. Tree branches, the floor, curbs, benches can all be used for this sport. Calisthenics can improve mental health, balance and coordination. Can help treat stress and can boost your self-esteem. It Improves overall stamina, strength, energy, agility, coordination, balance, and promotes overall fitness for your health.

Mondays: 4:00 PM April 28-June 16 Members: $80 Program Members: $120 Minimum of 3 to run class

FIRST POSITION BABY BALLET

This class gives young children a basic introduction to classical ballet. It includes preparatory exercises to develop coordination. It will also allow participants to experience classical music, increase their sense of balance, and improve their reflexes. Children must come prepared with ballet slippers. BREAK IT DOWN BEGINNER HIP-HOP

In beginner Hip-Hop, participants will learn the basic way to use their bodies in ways that encourage many different stylistic techniques. A high energy course highlighting the basics of Hip-Hop and funk with basic moves linked together into a progressive routine taught to a compilation of Hip-Hop and R&B music. YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL YMCA’s DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM Now being offered at the Cross Island YMCA! Reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes with the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program (YDPP).

Over the course of 16 weekly one-hour sessions, a trained lifestyle coach will help you learn about healthy eating, getting started with physical activity, overcoming stress, staying motivated and other behavior changes, all in a comfortable classroom setting. The YDPP is based on research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which showed that by eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a small amount of weight, a person with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by 58% .
