The Vanderbilt YMCA Teen Center in conjunction with Lion Gates Films, screened The Hunger Games to celebrate the upcoming release of (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) on Tuesday, November 20th in the 2nd Floor Gymnasium. The event included several craft/work stations that educated guests on various survival skills. Many of the Vanderbilt Teens are interested in pursuing careers in entertainment and publicity. This event gave them a behind the scenes view of what it takes to promote a Hollywood film, while making a conscience effort to incorporate a positive and beneficial community need. The teens were also able to improve their leadership skills and gain experience in basic fiscal management. They were responsible for the planning, budgeting, and hosting of the event. The Teen Center is a safe place where teens have the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities that allow them to develop socially, physically, and academically. Teen Center offers a variety of programming which are free and open to teens ages 12-19.

The team gathered over turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and more. The tables were plentiful and the staff was smiling and enjoying themselves. Vanderbilt hosts its staff Thanksgiving Dinner every year to bring together employees for a couple of hours to enjoy themselves and celebrate the holiday of thankfulness.
