On May 10th, just two and a half short months after kick-off, the Y celebrated reaching the Strong Kids Campaign annual fundraising goal.

Held in the Prospect Park YMCA gymnasium, the Victory Celebration was filled with entertainment and recognition. The event showcased a hip hop performance by PS 200’s Y Afterschool program; youth guitar recital premiering their original riff; and a heartfelt testimonial from a New Americans Welcome Center participant.

“I didn’t realize how diverse our programming is,” said event attendee. “From physical activity to drawing and computer literacy classes, the Y really makes it hard to not want to belong here.” Funds raised through the Strong Kids Campaign allows the Y to provide free and subsidized programs and financial assistance to members in need. Brooklyn Nets Assist in Youth Health The Nets and Barclays Community Alliance have made their mark in Brooklyn. On May 2nd, Nets CEO, Brett Yormack, joined more than 500 kids at the Park Slope Armory YMCA for a day of healthy and fun physical activity in continuation of their Nets Assist Community Week. “We’re excited to build our relationship with the Brooklyn Nets,” said Associate Executive Director, Erika Rautenstrauch. “The Nets, like us, are committed to not simply being in the community but rather becoming a part of the fabric of the fabric of Brooklyn.” The Barclays/Nets Community Alliance has partnered with all Brooklyn YMCAs under the YMCA of Greater New York to promote health and physical activity among youth throughout the borough.

Healthy Kids Day Healthy Kids Day® is the nation’s largest health promotion and education day, celebrated across the country at over 1,900 YMCA branches. This free and open annual Y event brings children and families together to provide the education, activities, and experiences that teach good health and foster positive connections through fitness, sports, and fun. Held on April 28th from 10 am to 4pm, this year’s Park Slope Armory YMCA Healthy Kids Day served over 1,200 community members and partnered with local organizations to large national companies to provide activities for kids and grown-ups.
