The Prospect Park YMCA is Here for Good every day of the year, and never more so than in challenging and uncertain times by continuing to offer life-enhancing Y programs to our community. With over 130 years of experience and an additional location at the Park Slope Armory we are committed to you. Last year we reached over 35,000 people, more than 12,000 of whom were local youth and teens. We are so grateful to be able to offer programs and participation to our community despite their ability to pay. In 2010 every child in our Lisa Beth Gerstman Special Needs Camp participated on at least 50% financial aid; we enrolled more than 900 children in our after school programs at 11 locations throughout Brooklyn completely free of charge; we had the ability to provide financial assistance to hundreds of members in financial crisis; and have launched our new teen center. Without the support of our community through the Strong Kids Campaign none of this would have been possible. Your support of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign gives children and families, in our community, the chance to grow stronger in spirit, mind and body. This year we have seen tremendous growth in membership granting us the priviledge to start more children and families off on the right foot through access to healthy lifestyle programs at the Prospect Park Y. Please consider investing in our children and community by making a generous donation to the Strong Kids Campaign this year. To find out how you can contribution to the Strong Kids Campaign and learn more about other giving opportunities please contact Megan King, Director of Fund Development and Communications at (212) 912-2371 or via email at mking@ymcanyc.org. Thank you for helping to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities! All donations to the Prospect Park YMCA Strong Kids Campaign are taxdeductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Strong Kids Testimonial
The Lisa Beth Gerstman Special Needs Camp has been nothing short of a life changing experience for our entire family. Grace gained independence as she adventured the city for the first time without me. Her favorite adventures were the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Ringling Brothers Circus and The Native American Smithsonian. After the first day, Grace begged me to attend camp for an additional week- which we granted. Grace has made new friends and is a happy child. As parents, we have have the opportunity to take that time for ourselves and be adults. We are all very excited for Grace’s second year of camp.” The Strong Kids Campaign offers financial assistance to families in need and all of our Lisa Beth Gerstman Campers because every child deserves the opportunity to participate in a safe, educational and fun environment.
STRONG KIDS CAMPAIGN
“Both of my children, Grace and Andrew have cerebral palsy. CP creates barriers and our children can’t routinely interact with children their own age without skilled help. Naturally, we were very nervous to send Grace to summer camp on her own, but after speaking with the Prospect Park Y staff we felt at ease in sending her off.

Y T
Complete the Program Registration Authorization Agreement. Choose a day of the week on which you would like to register your child for class. We will make every effort to sign your child up for the day and time that you choose. As always, there are no guarantees. Class enrollment depends upon class availability and capacity. We will register your child, using the credit card number you have authorized us to draft. You are responsible for expired or declined credit cards and for keeping the child's membership current. A $15 service fee will be charged for declined transactions. If we are unable to register your child for any of the above reasons, you will be required to Register during the Member Walk-in Registration for that session. Community House HDFC, Inc. A vital program of the Prospect Park YMCA is Community House, our residence program that provides needed housing and social programs for low-income, formerly homeles and mentally ill New Yorkers. Affordable Housing Units are in short supply in New York City. In response to this chronic shortage, the Prospect Park YMCA dedicated its top four floors to 138 housing units run by its non-profit partner, Community House HDFC Inc. The fullyfurnished rooms include 94 singles and 44 studios. The studios have private baths and cooking facilities and the single rooms have full access to two lounges and kitchens as well as laundry facilities. Twelve rooms on the fourth floor's south wing have been designated the Seafarer's Safe Haven, reserved for retired seafarers. Social Programs are offered to Community House residents in collaboration with Lutheran Social Services of New York. The staff provides a variety of programs including job training, computer training, nutrition workshops, gym instruction and a women's issues group. Recreational activities such as Bingo, monthly birthday celebrations and day trips are offered to residents. A visiting nurse provides health services bi-weekly. RESIDENCE HOUSING
One of the most venerable programs of the Prospect Park YMCA is Seamen's House. We provide permanent housing for retired, low-income seafarers and a wide range of needed services to working seafarers who are all at the Ports of New York and New Jersey. When Seamen's House was first opened in the 1930's, tens of thousands of sailors docked in New York City's ports needing a place to stay for the night. At the time, Seamen's House was there to provide temporary housing. Today, active seafarers spend hours rather than days in port, however retired seafarers face an acute shortage of permanent, afford able housing. Seamen's House evolved to meet these issues. A wing of 12 housing units called Seafarers Safe Haven is occupied by our own "family" of retired seafarers. Social Programs for Retired Seafarers are offered to residents, including an exercise program and healthy cooking. A team of on-site social workers is on hand to help residents with any problems, and health services are provided by visiting nurses. A team of staff and volunteers, including our retirees, visits ships at the Red Hook Terminal and locations throughout the Ports of New York and New Jersey. Seamen's House offers two services to working seafarers that no other seafaring agency provides. We bring wireless laptops on board ship so that seafarers can email home and read their local newspapers online. And we bring the YMCAs health and wellness expertise to them, showing them the many benefits of exercise through classes and handing out free equipment.
