The gifted school was recognized as ranking among the 22 highscoring educational institutions in “Common Core” reading and math exams given last spring to New York City public schools.
On Saturday October 5, Vanderbilt will be hosting its Teen Center Kick-Off from 4PM - 8PM. There will be a meet and greet, program demos including dance, personal training, leaders club and more.
His Honor and the chancellor held a 30-minute press conference at the TAG School to honor the Principal, Janette Cesar, the TAG staff, Vanderbilt’s Out of School Time and Y Afterschool Branch Supervisor, Ethel Coaxum and Coordinator, Andrea Scott, TAG students, families and community partners.
The Teen Center will also be hosting its first FREE 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Parents and teenagers ages (12-18) are welcome to attend.
The Vanderbilt Y has worked with the East Harlem school for over 10 years, supporting the community by offering free, high-quality afterschool programming and summer camp for K-5th grade children. Supported by the NYC Department of Education, all activities are designed to build academic skills while providing TAG Young Scholars students the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time. Innovative programs include the American Heart Association sponsored, Teaching Garden which gives students the opportunity to learn how to plant seeds, nurture growing plants, harvest produce and understand the value of good eating habits.
