YOUTH PROGRAMS REGISTER Participants will develop balance, coordination, selfconfidence and discipline through this martial art form. Classes focus on the development of the youth’s positive attitude, behavior and character through building self-esteem and self-discipline while instilling respect for themselves and others.

Karate (Ages 4-15)

SOCCER CLINIC (Ages 4-12)

REGISTER This class is designed to develop fundamental soccer skills while learning teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship. Children will learn the rules of the game and much more! REGISTER Each class will incorporate instruction and fundamental skill development. Your child will develop skills in dribbling, shooting, passing and throwing.

PEE WEE BASKETBALL (Ages 4-6)

BASKETBALL CLINIC (Ages 7-12)

REGISTER Each child will learn and master the basics of passing, dribbling and shooting. Fun scrimmages will allow participants to practice their offense and defense while working as a team.

FLAG FOOTBALL This non-contact sport will focus on the fundamentals of football through skill development, rules and strategies. Participants will learn offensive and defensive concepts and participate in game play. FLATBUSH Y SUMMER 2018 | 7


DANCE, DANCE, DANCE Modern Dance (Ages 8-12) REGISTER This is a high energy class that teaches traditional African dance. The class will focus on the regions of West Africa, the Caribbean & the African Diaspora. Participants will be educated about African culture and dance along with the rhythm of the Djembe drum and a variety of other African instruments.

BALLET (Ages 5-12)

REGISTER This class will encourage imagination, creativity, musicality, and graceful movement. Participants are taught basic ballet positions and movement while learning class etiquette and how to follow instructions in an enjoyable environment.

TINY TOES BALLET (Ages 2-4)

REGISTER Children will learn the fundamentals of ballet through awareness of body movement and creativity. While participating in exercise and dance sequences, participants will learn coordination and explore various levels of movement that will develop strength.

FITNESS AND MOVEMENT GYMNASTICS (Ages 2-12)

REGISTER

Children are introduced to the sport of gymnastics and learn the fundamentals of movement. Young gymnasts will develop skills in overall coordination, balance, strength and flexibility. Class framework supports children interacting with peers and making friends. BEGINNER - NEW TO GYMNASTICS WITH VERY LITTLE SKILL. ADVANCED - CARTWHEEL, AND HANDSTAND REQUIRED.

MUSIC REGISTER Group piano lessons provide age appropriate instruction while also developing listening skills. Skills focus on keyboard techniques, pitch matching, rhythm, music theory and music appreciation. Individual keyboards will be provided for use during class.

HEALTHY Y LIFESTYLES GROUP FITNESS CLASSES SPIN A challenging 45-minute stationary cycling class that utilizes various training techniques and motivational strategies to simulate actual outdoor riding experiences. You will definitely enjoy this workout! All levels welcome

CORE TRAINING Get the six-pack you have always wanted with intense abdominal work that targets the entire mid-section. All levels welcome.

ZUMBA ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness program. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

TABATA This style class is sure to take your workout to the next level. Each exercise will range from 20 seconds to 1 minute of high intensity followed by anywhere between 5 to 30 seconds of rest for a period of up to 8 cycles.

KBK (Kettle Bell Kickboxing) This is a total body workout that blends strength and cardio. The class helps establish proper technique to execute dead lifts, swings, grinds and more while using the Kettlebells.

KETTLEBELLS This is a total body workout that blends strength and cardio. The class helps establish proper technique to execute dead lifts, swings, grinds and more while using the Kettlebells.

INTERVAL BOOT CAMP A full body workout that combines cardio, strength, and agility training, utilizing kettlebells, weights, body bars, and various other types of fitness equipment to enhance intensity. Classes are set up with stations, to create balanced interval training. Be prepared for anything!

PILATES This is a beginner class that consists of very gentle exercises. The primary focus is awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility. This class will help improve posture and create firm, sleek abs.

H.I.I.T. Supercharge your fitness with this challenging class of high speed, high intensity work alternated with recovery periods of low intensity

SILVER SNEAKERS CIRCUIT Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a Silver Sneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises

SILVER SNEAKERS CARDIO Get Up & Go with an aerobics class that’s safe, heart healthy and gentle on the joints. The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your active lifestyle

SILVER SNEAKERS YOGA This practice is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. We use props to support the postures, while gently stretching and strengthening the body.

TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING Keep your muscles toned in this fun filled class! Target all muscle groups using weights and calisthenics. All levels welcome

CARDIO KICKBOXING This high-energy class blends athletic drills with martial arts to create an intense cardiovascular workout.

YOGA This class focuses on the relaxation of the mind and body through a variety of flexibility exercises and mental focus. All levels welcome.

BOOTCAMP A mix of different cardio styles, different stations and obstacles and drills to get that heart pumping. If you seek a challenge then this high intense workout is for you.

BODY BLAST This class incorporates the use of body bars, dumb bells, and resistance bands to create a full body workout. Sure to get your heart pumping and make you sweat! All levels welcome.

DANCE PARTY This class incorporates Caribbean and African dance moves, along with core exercises to create an intense cardio workout, with music provided by a live DJ!

DISCOVERING WELLNESS YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM

PERSONAL TRAINING

Reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes with the YMCA ’s Diabetes Prevention Program. Over the course of 16 weekly one-hour sessions, a trained lifestyle coach will help you learn about healthy eating, getting started with physical activity, overcoming stress, staying motivated and other behavior changes, all in a comfortable classroom setting.

Meet with one of our certified Personal Trainers to create a personalized workout plan to assist you in meeting your fitness goals! Sessions are planned based on your schedule, which allows for maximum flexibility. Single sessions are available, as well as packages of 5 and 10.

Y FIT START The Y Fit Start Program is 12-week program for new and returning exercisers. During the 12 weeks, you will have 4 face to face appointments with a Y Fit Start Coach to provide you with personal attention and extra motivation to help keep you on track. Y Fit Start provides a structured, sensible fitness routine, gradually adding new exercises at each meeting. These small changes will lead to greater success in achieving your health goals. During this time, you can exercise at the YMCA anytime that fits into your own schedule.

TAKE CONTROL REDUCE YOUR DIABETES RISK AND GAIN TOOLS FOR HEALTHY LIVING THROUGH THE YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM.

If you are at high risk for type 2 diabetes, this program can help you adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles that will help you reduce your chances of developing diabetes.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will help facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over the course of 16 one-hour sessions. After the initial 16 core sessions, participants meet monthly for added support to help them maintain their progress.

PROGRAM GOALS:

• Reduce body weight by 7% • Increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

In order to qualify for the program, you must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25)* and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with prediabetes† by a healthcare provider. The national price for the program is $429.00 per person. Check with your health insurance provider to see if the cost is covered. Financial assistance is also available. IT’S ABOUT THE WHOLE PERSON HEALTH & WELL-BEING FOR CANCER SURVIVORS The Y and LIVESTRONG joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors achieve their holistic health goals. The researchbased program offers people affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to achieve their goals, such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. In addition to physical benefits, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on the emotional well-being of survivors and their families by providing a supportive community where people impacted by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond.

EXERCISING COURTESY While you’re improving your life, help others grow strong too. We ask you to follow the Y Code of Conduct and exhibit the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility while you’re here. 1. Get oriented. Not sure how to use the equipment or what you should be doing? Orientations are free for all members! 2. Just ask. We’re here to help! 3. If there’s a problem with any of the equipment or the facility, please let a staff person know. If there’s an incident or accident, contact a uniformed staff person immediately. 4.

Be safe. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. (Open-toed shoes, over-restrictive or street clothes are not allowed.) Have a spotter help you with free weights. Warm up before and cool down after exercise. Make sure you’ve had enough to eat and drink before exercising to prevent dizziness or lightheadedness. If you are experiencing dizziness, pain or unusual discomfort at any time, stop the exercise and ask staff for help.

Help us keep the Y clean. Wipe off equipment after each use. Return all equipment when finished with it. Take your personal items with you. Remove the plates from lifting bars when you’re done. Don’t bring food, open containers or coffee cups into the center.

Give others a turn. The equipment is here for everyone to use. Please respect the 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment if others are waiting, and follow any posted sign-up procedures.

Storing your stuff. Bags are not allowed in the fitness areas. Daily lockers are reserved for your personal items while you are in the Y. Items may be left overnight only in rented lockers. Please speak with a Member Service Representative for more information on monthly locker rentals.

8. Youth are welcome after completing an orientation and submitting a signed parental consent form (ages 12-17). 9. Get personal. Personal trainers are available. Ask a staff person for more information. 10. Hang it up. For your safety and in consideration for others, please refrain from cell phone use while in the fitness facilities.

The YMCA of Greater New York is a community service organization that promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body, welcoming all people with a focus on youth.

Members may put their membership on hold for 1 to 3 months during any calendar year. A monthly hold fee will be charged. Membership privileges are surrendered while your membership is on hold.

YMCA membership is available to all persons regardless of race, religion, gender, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or financial circumstances. MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION Cancellation of membership requires a fifteen (15) day written notice prior to the monthly draft date.

MEMBERSHIP TRANSFER Membership and program privileges are not transferable from one person to another.

MEMBERSHIP GUARANTEE Membership in the YMCA is fully guaranteed. Members who are not completely satisfied with their YMCA membership are entitled to a refund of any unused portion of their membership.

Membership fees must be up-to-date in order to use facility. Rates and schedules are subject to change. Membership may be paid in full by cash, personal checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards. Monthly payments are payable by credit card or bank draft only. There is no cash option for monthly payments. If a check or an automatic back draft is returned for insufficient funds a service fee of $15.00 will be added to the payment amount.

GUEST AND DAY PASSES Branch members are welcome to visit other YMCA locations within NYC a total of 10 times per calendar year at no charge. Free passes are available on the YMCA web site to introduce the Y to friends and associates. Day Passes are available to purchase.

CAMERA POLICY For the privacy and security of all—especially our kids and teens—we do not allow any photo or video recording without permission from the Executive Director.

MEMBERSHIP CARD The Branch membership card must be presented and scanned in order to gain access into a YMCA facility.

LOCKER ROOMS

PROGRAM CARDS Program members will be issued a card granting them YMCA access for their program. This card must be presented and scanned for access into the YMCA facility and/or a specific program.
